What a farce, ONS stats how NHS had their quietest winter in 13 years this winter just gone
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just had a look and according to this ONS report from March 2021 they stated:

"The number of adults in critical care in hospitals was far higher than previous winters."

"Winter is usually the most pressured time in the NHS with the colder weather coinciding with an increase in illness and death."

"However, the winter of 2020 and early 2021 was far from normal. Data from NHS England’s winter situation reports (SitReps), show that acute hospital trusts opened significantly more critical care beds, and that many more were occupied than in recent previous years, as hospitals reported greater pressure from the coronavirus (COVID-19)."

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronavirusayearlikenoother/2021-03-15

Where did you read that the NHS had their quietest winter in 13 years, as seems a bit strange given the spike in CV19 cases, and the above info?

I personally found a lot of school-taught history very boring and unrelatable, I suppose some of that can be attributed to immaturity and some to lack of curiosity at that age.

But I've certainly developed a renewed enthusiasm for studying history as an adult, because I'm far more interested in the "why" of history rather than the "what". Learning dates and facts is good for passing exams, but viewing history through an anthropological lens is fascinating because it's allowed me to learn how we've come to be where we are, and to understand how behaviour, culture and psychology have contributed to that course of events. Those are timeless considerations which we can all learn from and apply in our modern-day lives - history is a vast testing ground where all sorts of modern ideas have been applied in the past; on the other hand medieval ox plough technology is a fairly abstract concept and understanding it provides me little benefit in my day-to-day life.

Yeah I didn't have to do this... Unless my Google account (having card info) just superceded

Yeah I assume it did.

A new study into the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus has found it provides a high level of protection in older people and will work against new variants including the Brazilian version of the virus.

Research by the University of Birmingham and Public Health England's Porton Down laboratory tracked the immune response in people aged over 80.

Scientists said the vaccine delivered an “off the scale” immune response among recipients which meant it was likely to work against multiple variants of the virus.

The research, which is the biggest Pfizer study on antibody and cellular immune factors to date, found 98 per cent of people aged 80 or over who had two doses of the Pfizer jab had a strong antibody immune response.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The downside is that it's more expensive and takes longer to make than other vaccines, but it sounds like it's the most effective of them all.

Am I alright? No I'm alt- left.
Comparing a couple of city states to African nations isn't really a fair comparison either. Could you imagine the wealth in S.Africa had the Dutch and British not stolen all their diamonds and gold?
The troubles in Central Africa could be removed if the west wasn't so addicted to the rare earths and other natural resources.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
😂

Cos Africa was well advanced when the colonisers came.

It's a ridiculous argument. You are taking the assumption that African nations would have evolved to Western norms. What is to say they wouldn't just be like the Amazon tribes today?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What amazon tribes? You mean the few isolated ones? How did people who were not colonised evolve to their modern states?

Africa would have evolved and grown like any other peoples that were not colonised. Why are Dubai and the UAE so wealthy? Because we buy their oil. If we go in and take it by force they'd have nothing but a lot of sand.

Have to vent about this.

YouTube (google) for European countries and perhaps others are now insisting on a credit card or photo ID to verify your age.

I created my YouTube account in 2005 unless I did that at two years old, I think it’s safe that I’m over 18.

To the point other than just poor Sat Nav. The principle I understand it’s a joke that all you have to do is click ‘yes I am over 18’ but YouTube? Really? Credit card or photo ID? Really? Seems like even more data collection to me rather than protecting young people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah it's a joke, what does a free video sharing site need my ID for? Can Elon or some other crazy billionaire please hurry up and build an alternative to sheit like YouTube, Google and twitter ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see the need for protection but credit card or photo ID is a bit much. Make me sign Ts and Cs to sign away my rights to sue and job done. Anything more than that is just data collection and god knows what they’re doing with that.

Colonised countries are not necessarily bottom of the food chain, Hong Kong and Singapore being prime examples.

Africa has indeed been pillaged by Europeans, but that isn't the whole story. Unfortunately for many countries in Africa they have been the whipping boy everyone. And in some way you can say China is now doing the same in Africa.

I get that all areas should be covered, but I'm not sure you would get you desired result. History GCSE covers 16 subjects over 2 years (?), so depth is always going to be absent.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can add America to that list too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are exceptions to every rule and what you've given is the exceptions to the rule IMO. Furthermore, there are additional factors. Hong Kong, Singapore and America were no left with a colonial mentality. They were not put in concentration camps and and used for labour etc.

Colonialism isn't the same everywhere as it's a broad term. It's application and the manner in which these countries were colonised is not the same as how Africa was colonised. The ingredients are not exactly the same and therefore the result cannot be the same.

Furthermore, those countries did not have black populations. Racism is not an equal opportunity oppresser. Black people have had it worse than others and we're seen as the most undesirable.

Speaking of Nigeria, the Benin Bronzes.
So beautiful the idiot Brits who stole them said such primitive people must have got the technology from the Portuguese.
Eurocentric ballockology.

Public Citizen @Public_Citizen
BREAKING: New York became the 15th state to legalize recreational marijuana. The bill will also expunge records for thousands of people with past marijuana convictions.

94% of people arrested for marijuana in New York last year were people of color.

This is a historic moment.

But if the west was left in a parallel universe then the west would have never evolved the way they did. I think the point is moot from the premise, with all due respect.

We don't know how Africa or anyone else would have evolved if isolated so it's a water of time speculating and we can't make any inferences or decisions from said speculation.

You don't have to have the know how. Even now Africans are not technologically advanced but they sell their minerals and raw material like evryon else. That's like occupying someone's house and refusing to pay rent because they don't live in it. It's still their house and you must pay rent.

Remember the west needed Asians to introduce agriculture, writing and counting (mathematics) without which even the industrial revolution would not happen and we would all be savages still.

History is like pushing a rock up a hill. Some people pushed it until they could push no more, but someone else came with a different mindframe and was able to push the rock some more until they exhausted their ideas, then another one came and pushed some more and so on and so forth and here we are.

As I said knowledge of history would stop you from questioning what would have happened if anyone had been isolated. If we did not interact with each other, we would be nowhere.

Both the agrarian and industrial revolutions only occured because of a great mixing of peoples all from different backgrounds and with different mindframes

Here's another what if.
What if Europeans went to trade and not conquer?
Another.
What if they hadn't addicted half the Chinese population to the strongest narcotic known at the time?
Oh and why is/was the pound the only currency based on silver?

And billions of dollars in class action suits. And it was bans on advertising.
Something the anti regulation guys should have a think about.
Wouldn't be surprised if alcohol producers are next.
