TA is a load of old bolloox imho, in crypto at least. There are some human nature patterns to spot, but crypto is just too unregulated to have the stability to create patterns that TA would work well with.

As the market is becoming more mature TS is having more of an impact. At this moment I see potential elliot wave patten in play fir Bitcoin that should mean a retest of the high last week and possibly a further leg higher before making a miefium term high.

Well I've looked 2 or 3 comments above and nobody specifically refers to BTC as TA that I can see.

I asked a simple question and wasn't expecting anyone to make such a drama about it!

TA is not Bitcoin.

I normally take it to be Trend analysis or Transactional Analysis. Nor sure what it was intended as here but i suspect one of those.

Sorry mate, a bit of confusion.

I was merely saying ‘Bitcoin!’ As the price was surging, not in response to anyone.

Apologies

TA = technical analysis

BTC did form the bullish double bottom I mentioned yesterday and has been pumping since. Expecting new ATHs soon or at least another test of the $42k resistance

Technical Analysis Brummie.

It's a study of price movement in a chart and provides clues at to possible future price action.

You may have seen my post yesterday saying that Bitcoin looks poised to retest last weeks highs, but it first has to take out 37,000.

That was based on TA.

Now we are entering what I think could be the last leg higher for Bitcoin for the next few months. Too early to be sure of that yet though. In the short term it looks bullish

Cheers Biggish, I knew 100% it wasn't BTC but didn't know what it was.

Everyday's a school day!

BTW Biggish, did you used to trade in Forex?

I remember you giving me a tip on CHF once. I've heard so much about it on social media recently I decided to give it a go on my Etoro virtual account.

I thought it was harder to predict than crypto, no matter which pairs I tried after watching the graphs for ages, I picked what I thought were likely candidates and opened numerous trades, both sell and buy positions and virtually all of them did the exact opposite of what I hoped!

Yes I did for HSBC and Merrill Ly ch back in the 80s and 90s.

I trade for myself these days.

I must be honest I stick to forex and stock futures. I have never had a crypto position as its so volotile.

But I have used TA my whole trading career and it works well if you use it right.

It is harder to apply to Bitcoin because compared to forex it lacks liquidity, but that is improving and I am now becoming more able to establish chart patterns and wave counts.

That is why I posted yesterday.

In be eral it does look like Bitcoin is in a strong bull trend lo g term.

But... I do slightly worry that after this ne, t surge higher there maybe one nasty sell off which would clean out the market longs.

What you could do Brummie is if it gest to 41,000 again, I think it will take profit on half of your investment and put a trailing stop loss below 36000.

But it depends on your Outlook. If you can afford to hold Bitcoin through the rough periods, then just put it in a draw and forget about if for a few years.

I was going to just take any profit (I've only got 3 $50 trades I opened at just below $9k) at 40/41k then take the profit and wait for a significant drop and re-invest.

I've got more in Eth which I might cash in at $1300k and do the same.

Do you have any thoughts on CHF/HUF at the moment?

posted on 14/1/21

No I haven't looked at that pair for a while. It's an unusual one, why are you interested in it?

There is always some political risk with Hungary due to their kant of a President but in theory if we get a positive announcement tonight from Biden about a fiscal package for the US around 2 trillion, then that will favour emerging market currencies like Hungarian Forint.

The chart has a nice potential set up for a selling CHF agst HUF but it hasn't quite broken down yet.

It might after tonight.

On this leg up I am looking for retest of Fridays high and if it breaks that we could see very near to 45,000.

I want to see how it trades at the 45,000 level as potentially that could be the end of this phase of the biull run for Bitcoin
