Even gold had a ridiculous low usage in the modern world... May as well call that tulip too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Except that is a viable to use as a currency.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it... walk into Wal-Mart or Tesco with a cunch of gold
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd be much more confident in some post capitalism apocalyptic wasteland that a gold coin would get me fed as opposed to a crypto currency.

Nether would be worth anything really... gold has no real worth in such a world... bullets, water, seeds and a million other things would be worth more than gold.

Gold has had a near 4,000 track record of establishing a defacto standard as far as a globally accepted means of wealth measurement and as a barter currency. Bitcoin on the other hand....
Not in this posy apocalyptic world you talk about.
How much would your pieces of paper and savings book be worth....
We'd all have bigger fish to fry the currency... in such a world.
Anyway.... you stick to your 0.5% interest.... not everyone is a risk taker

True. But virtually all signs point to bitcoin being a bubble underpinned by irrational speculation. It's an E-Tazzo.
Bitcoin bubble already burst some years ago.... its now on a second rise.... of course it can drop again... but that does not take away the fact that it is a legit concept.
Tulips were a scam.
Gold is a store of value based on percieved trust of worth... just like bitcoin.

I'm certainly not disputing that it could go to 10,000 dollars. But there is nothing inherently special or practical about Bitcoin, which is why there are about 100 other crypto coins, many of which have already failed. It's a highly volatile bearer bond in some respects. But at 7tx per second and a transaction clearing time that can be 24 hours. It most certainly is not a viable currency, or anything close to that.
People said bitcoin peaked at 2.5 k dew months ago,now its the more than double that. Someone said it will get to 100k, and it probably will.
But what is bitcoin backed by? Real, physical currency is backed by gold, what about bitcoin? Does China one day say that enough is enough and all that money that has been gained go to waste?

Most currencies aren't back by gold now. But instead backed by central banks and underlying economy/balance of payments.

Nick I've got investments in Bitcoin, Ethreum, Ripple XRP, and Litecoin, I use a site called 'etoro'.
I wasn't sure if I missed the boat but invested anyway, just in case.
You don't actually own it but just invest in it.
All the crypo's had a bad dip in September and pretty stagnant in October but have been picking up over the last week or so.
Due to it's volatility I've been studying the graphs, buying the dips when it's low and selling when it looks to have peaked. I've made a few hundred dollars like that but I still keep some permanently invested on the off chance it does rocket.
The price cap is in the billions of dollars so theoretically there's nothing to stop it going ballistic.
It may go bust, as some predict, but for the cost of a few hundred dollars, I reckon it's worth the risk!
Never know I might be able to retire when I'm 95!
Warren Buffett never invests in anything he does not understand.
I think it is a good policy to follow, so for those that do want to invest in these products, make sure you fully understand the fundamentals that drive them up and down. Personally, i don't understand it well enough to play
