The move for Bairstow should have been done after Brisbane, plays better up the order and easily our second best batsman behind Root (if he turns up)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Should have been done at the start of the series but at least they have finally done the right thing. Absolutely awesome from Malan and Bairstow though, 174* to guide England out of their pickle. They'll be expectations on the Aussies to wrap the Ashes up in this test match. They will no doubt come out fresh and fired up tomorrow with a ball that's only 8 overs old. It will be up to Malan and Bairstow to see off the opening hour.
England would love to get another 150+ runs. Bairstow century would be nice
Why does Malan speak in a South African accent?
His father is South African and he was raised there from the age of 7 until about the age of 18/19 before moving back to England.
Would love to see us put on 400+ but that is a big ask, no pressure on Malan to just bat freely now, they stick on another 50/60 runs, Woakes and Alli 40 runs and 20-30 from the tail
That will be a decent innings, need to have a good day with the ball once Aussies get in
It's the hope that kills you

Rain forecast Sunday, we can get a draw!!
england shud coast to victory now
cant see aussies getting back into this
final game at the waca and they cant wait to see the back of this place as they have a poor record there of late.
England have got themselves into a position to go on and make 450+, which inevitably means a second day collapse to less than 400 all out.
Hopefully Malan and Bairstow bat on for another session at least, which will then let Alli and Woakes play some shots before the rats and mice come in.
Just enjoying the sight of an England batsman finally being able to raise the bat and helmet to the dressing room. Baby steps to get themselves back into this series.

Grande as always ur predictions are never right bro.. Well, with me I’m always king in predicting results. Just like last time and many more, Aussies gonna rip englund this Ashes! Again mark my words..
Now back to the game, normal services are resumed.
Looks like Overton could be done for a while, he's picked up some sort of abdominal strain. If he can't bowl tomorrow then Moeen is going to need to seriously step up.
vital wicket....need to snaffle another now.
Bit of luck there for England, Smith surprised it was given out and he's not happy about it.
There's talk of a lot of rain around on Sunday and Monday which might mean this test is done after tomorrow.
368/5 to 403 all out, oh dear!
Shocking to lose 6 wickets for 100 runs, tail blown away for 20 runs
The ball is old now and warn, Australia did nothing with the old ball, we ain't gonna do anything else, should have taken Alli out and stuck in another seamer, he's been terrible
*cue flurry of Alli wickets

Strangely poor from us really. Malan and Bairstow were excellent, added 60 runs against the still fairly new ball to demoralise the Aussies. Moeen, Woakes and Overton should have added another 60-70 runs at least to get us to around 450.
Second time in the series we've collapsed badly on the back of Malan's wicket.
Thrown away a winning position again

Shocking in the "this shouldn't be acceptable" sense, but not surprising in the least. Fully agree with dropping Alli - what was the point in even bringing Crane if he's not gonna play in these specific circumstances?
didn't want to say anything yesterday about England's chances of winning this test until I saw the aussies bat - they are more than capable of passing our score and getting at least a draw if not a win.

I wouldn't say we were ever in a winning position. We should have made losing unlikely by posting somewhere around 500.
The Aussies could well go past our score with Smith now very much in although much will depend on the supporting players on whether they score 375-400 or 500-550. If they score the latter then watch them bowl us out for 120 on what is still a flat pitch.

Pretty much, you can't let the tail get blown away like that, Woakes and Alli are more than capable of getting 60-70 runs, Broad and Overton about 15-20 a piece and Anderson single figures
We should have been looking at 450+
