England vs NZ ODI series

These performances are simply unacceptable.

When Australia come over here it's usually a close fought series. We go over to Australia and get absolutely destroyed nearly every time. Why have we not planned better? Why is our opening partnership so poor so often? Why are our attack bowlers so poor? Why is our spin option so poor?

I'm angry.

bake, just like i said in my previous post.. Its closer in England because of the scores.. when the scores are closer you have a chance..
Its not a matter of planning better..Until england get 500+ like we did in the ashes series we won dwn under.. we will struggle to compete.

Maybe I'm being too dramatic but I believe this series does prompt for big changes.

I have some slight hope for the 1 dayers to be fair

Exactly why root should bat 3. Little tinkering with the line up. Malan 4, bairstow 5 Vince 6 would be a better Ballanced line up. If this goes 3-0 then I would put cook, Ali and broad out of their misery. Call up Jennings maybe Livingstone for Vince, crane and Curran for Melbourne.

Bake i agree, Moeen Ali needs to go. hes neither a spinner nor a front line bowler.. So does Woakes..once Stokes is back. I would stick with Overton i think his lenght looks good and will cause problms in england.

I dunno why it took the selectors years to go to Stoneman . he would have scored more runs than the previous morons who have opened the batting.. and of course Vince is finished.

Nothing can excuse how England have allowed the Marsh brothers to score runs. These 2 are bang average cricketers.

Kash, Shaun Marsh is scoring over 45 in Australia..

Say we lose 2 sessions for the weather (if it rains) england need to bat 4 sessions to get out of this game.. If we dont do that..we deserve to lose the ashes before christmas. at least try and get a draw.

Liverpoolwhoelse Swann was not the best English spinner in last 30 years as that title belongs to Ashley Giles although I accept that Swann was very effective and quite good bowler for England.

Rashid may go for a few runs but at least he takes wickets, he usually makes things happen and actually turns the ball, unlike Moeen who has shown next to nothing.

They selected Moeen as the safe option, to keep things tight and tie an end down, but that doesnt work on these pitches, we need wicket takers in the team.

Broad and Anderson are far less effective in Australian conditions, they do not have the pace to trouble the Aussie batsmen and without any swing and seam are just straight up and down medium-fast.

Sadly there is nobody else available bar maybe Plunkett.

Zahra

as a WCCC member i loved the king of spain, but i'd still struggle to argue he was a better bowler than swann!

bowling has not really been the problem in this series so far. batting has been. we've left ourselves at least 100 runs short in even our best innings, and at other times have folded cheaply. at 305-4 on this wicket we should have been pushing for 470-500 first innings. at which point the test is drawn. same in the first test where we should have been 400+ first innings putting scoreboard pressure on Australia.

sadly i think this is a series too far for cook and our inability to find a convincing 1-3 top order has shown once again. i expect cook will step down at the end of this tour, unless he wants one last series in front of his home support next year. and vince has probably ended his england career as well.

England have been picking average bowlers for a long time. Broad, Anderson, Woakes Overton all bowl similar speeds. They all bowl similar lengths. Surely England need to invest on good pacers.bowlers who consistently bowl over 140s. England’s top 2 wicket takers this series has picked less wickets than Starc.

When England won the ashes in 2010 they had tremlett. It was a one off for him. The other bowlers were Anderson and bresnan. Hardly express pace. They lost in Perth. Always going to struggle in Perth. The damage was done in the first 2 tests where if it was 1-1 would be in a great position going into the last 2.

haaaaa Broad and Anderson are average bowlers?? Stuart Broad and Andersons record over the last 4 years in particular is up there at that top of the tree..

The bottom line is despite idiots like Botham saying Australia are a poor side, they simply are not. They are in fact quite useful. They can bat, and post big scores, and they can bowl, and bowl teams out twice. All the ingredients you need to win Test Matches.

Sandy they are ok in their own conditions.. The likes of both Marshes and even Warner struggle away from home... The only reason England are losibg is because we havent scored enough.. The wickets in Australia are very flat. You need to see the records over the last 20 years. Compared to conditons in England. 450+ is a minium.. You get hammered if you only get 300..

posted on 16/12/17

What irks me is the selectors.. I think most fans would agree the likes of Stoneman and Malan look like they can score runs.. Why as it taken the selectors several years and of picking the wrong players.. Stoneman and Malan shoulda bene picked at 24/25 not 30 years of age.. they would both have 4000 runs or more by now if you ask me
