Apart from Root.. England do not have any quality batsmen.. even Cook as gone now..am sure the ecb are happy with their money from Sky and BT and their massive houses.. while the fans have to pay for this tripe.
Root and Stoneman were coping with the pace bowlers but Lyon has spun out Stoneman and Malan....
If it wasn't for Englands bowlers.. we would be down there with Bangladesh and Newzealand in the rankings..
Root gone. That will most likely be that.
And that is the difference between a top player in Root and a world class player in Smith. One hits fifties and gets out the other plays match winning knocks. Come to think of it as good as Root is, I can’t remember the last time he scored a potentially game changing or saving innings. A 186 KP at Mumbai or a Atherton at J’burg.
that decision was wrong.. there was a tiny bit of his foot behind the line and usual the 3rd umpire was "GUESSING"..

Stop crying Liver.. Game over 4ur team englund! 😂😂
Experienced players have let England down in this test. Like Kav said Root is known for pretty 50s but when pressure is on never delivers.
Bowling outside anderson and broad not good enough, but its the batsmen that lost us this match. You can get away with cheap dismissals in England as the bowlers can usually bail you out, but you need to be able to score big in Australia.
The ECB is investigating an alleged confrontation between Bairstow and Bancroft in a Perth bar earlier in the month.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/nov/26/ecb-investigates-alleged-physical-altercation-between-bairstow-and-bancroft
This match has been lost by purely the batsmen. Cook who has played in Australia numerous times now but has made very little contributions so far, atleast in the last 2 series downunder. 170 was never going to be threatening for this Australia team.
The pressure on the 2nd match will be huge. I don’t understand how SA, who have very similar type of bowlers like England are able to beat Australia in Australia but England’s bowling always seem to lose the plot.
Jake Ball had a poor game, he is supposed to be our 90mph man, Plunkett may have offered more imo, he can bowl 90mph and makes useful lower order runs
Ball is not a 90mph bowler. He's just a tall lad who puts it on a length like the other 3. Stokes would have offered some variety but basically England bowling is one dimensional.
Now Liver can’t blame Stoky cos he ain’t playing..
On a serious note; I personally think that englund missing him big time!
What happened to Plunkett cos he can bat too little bit?
Patel and plunkett should be out there. Should be in the team.
Benny,
Ru sure that fat ass Patel can play?
This turned into an absolute pasting - 10 wicket comfortable win without Bancroft or Warner really breaking sweat. With Lyon in the kind of form he’s in, the Aussies look a pretty solid unit.
Based on this performance another whitewash is on the cards.
Really disappointing to lose this game so badly after it was looking like a competitive match up at the halfway point. Even though Australia twice recovered well at 70 odd for 4 and 200 odd for 7 to get a lead. To get rolled over for 190 and see Warner and Bancroft knock the runs off with ease made our score look even worse.
Out bowled, out batted and out performed. We've recovered from bad losses before though but we'll need Cook and Root to get some scores.

yep...difficult to see anything but.
I see England's problems as follows:
1. Bowling is same paced.
Broad, Anderson, Ball and Woakes are all fast medium, good length swing and seam bowlers. There is no variation in England's attack. If we'd had Stokes and Finn or Wood we would have had someone who was a bit quicker and someone in Finn who gets extra bounce due to his height. Why they didn't call up Plunkett when Finn went home is a mystery to me, because he would have given more variation. Broad and Anderson's miserly nagging length bowling would be much more dangerous if the support seamers were either fast and scary, or at least themselves were miserly. Woakes and Ball fail on both counts.
2. Ali is totally nonthreatening on Aussie wickets.
In England he's really effective, overseas he's non threatening, I think it's because batsmen know they can wait and a four ball will come eventually, whilst there is likely not going to be that jaffer that has your name on it. I'd try Crane. He might also bowl four balls, but legspinners have historically been more effective in Australia and they also will bowl that unplayable delivery that has the batsman's name on it eventually.
3. The batsmen can't play spin.
Lyon is not a terribly threatening bowler on Aussie wickets either, the Gabba offered more help than usual to spin this time around, but England should have played him with much more authority. They needed to use their feet and come down the track to knock him off his length, then punish the resulting short ball. If Lyon can't keep it tight then the fast bowlers will have to bowl more, and the more overs in their legs the less effective they become.
4. The batsmen (except Stoneman) are impatient.
If there are men out on the hook, don't hook it. This is a test series, not a one day series, the aim of the opposition, primarily, is to get you out. Don't help them by falling into the traps they are laying for you. Wait for the bad ball and then punish it. Stoneman and Vince did that well in the first innings, until Stoneman got a good one and Vince ran himself out. Many overs of futility will tire the opposition out and demoralise them.
With this in mind, my squad for the nest test, if I were a selector, would be:
Cook
Stoneman
Vince
Root
Malan
Ali
Bairstow
Plunkett
Broad
Crane
Anderson
I anticipate some perfectly reasonable objections to this squad, which I shall answer now:
1 You shouldn't play two spinners in Australia
The way I look at it, you are playing 1 spinner in a four man bowling attack, with a batting allrounder, which if he's at 6 Ali is entitled to be considered as, chipping in where required.
2 Crane is untried and untested.
What is tried and tested hasn't work and I don't think it will, for the reasons I have already stated. Taking a punt on something different is surely the more aggressive way to go if we want to get back on terms in this series.
3 The batting is just as much of an issue, why is it unchanged?
I don't disagree with that assessment, however I can't see any easy solution to that. Personally I would have selected Nick Browne to play at three, as he had a stellar season opening for Essex. Vince I would have put at 5. I have no confidence in Malan at all.
so jonny bairstow gets a vote of confidence and survives a possible displinary action after the headbutt fiasco.
