Rooney was pretty inconsistent until about 2006, he blew hot and cold for Everton and at the start with United. It was obvious he was going to be a world class player, but nostalgia paints his teenage years like he was displaying Euro 2004 form every week, which wasn't the case.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He performed week in week out, whether he scored or not. He pretty much did until about 2010/11.

Rooney would have played for free if he could. He was the last of a dying breed who didn't threaten to leave and hold his club to ransom to try and get more money out of them.

Mbappe better than rooney

forget the past 5 or so years of rooneys career.

Rooney had everything.
As the op said.
Pace
Power
Aggression
Skill
Goals
Creativity

There werent many better players around than rooney when he was at his best.

Messi wasnt better than rooney at 18 either and hes now been the best player in the world for a while, along with Ronaldo who also wasnt as good as Rooney at 18.

Means fack all

Mbappe only scored 26 goals last season. Rooney did that twice in his career, making him TWICE the player.

Harsh on Mbappe, he's way ahead of where Rooney was at the same age.

That said Rooney had a great career which Mbappe will be very lucky to match despite being the bigger talent.

I will bet right now that Rooney scores more career goals than Mbappe.

Feel free to bookmark.

A fifteen year bookmark.

I will take that bet.

He’s 10% of the way there at 18, Rooney is nearly done on 328 for club and country.

Mbappe on 35 currently. Needs 20 a year for 15 years roughly.

By the same token he may develop into an ok player. I think he is/will become class but Messi/Ronaldo don't prove Mbappe will become the best in the world, as based on the logic of Champions League goals scored, he will become ten times the players they did given their exploits (nil) in the Champions League at the time.

Rooney was unreal at that age though. An all time great. England have rarely had someone so young so talented in the past 30 years or so, honorable mention to Owen.

Think people forget just how good rooney was when he was back in the day, because of how shiet he has been for so long

An eye test is useful here. Rooney was phenomenal. Some people kid themselves. Guy has broken all sorts of records despite playing different positions. Mbappe will score loads in a multi million pound team in a one team league.

Rooney use to come to Stanford bridge, even with a poor Utd team, and be their outstanding player and near run the game at times. Similar to hazard. Can't be judged by just goals or achievements.

Yeah but you think Sterling is rubbish so your opinion is extremely questionable at best.

some people love a stalk. But shock a liverpool fan in club bias horror

again though sterling backs that up with the eye test theory. Great statistically this season but I would have all of city's front 5 before him if that makes sense.

His off the ball movement this year has been impressive though

Rooney as a youngster seems to get all his best performances stretched over some false reality.

He was capable of the truly sublime (as is Mbappe) but didn't have anything like Mbappe's consistency at the same age.

Rooney had a brilliant career in the end but talent wise at equivalent ages Mbappe is significantly ahead.

I don't watch PSG every week tbh. But Mbappe should score more goals in that french league. Rooney had to contend with some of the best teams ever in jose's chelsea and the arsenal unbeaten team

Scruttocks is clearly on the wum.

French league is as bad as the Scottish league.
They have 1 team.
The rest wouldn't even make top 6 in England

So you don't disagree?

Rickie Lambert was a goal machine in the Prem. Do not mention Mbappe in the same sentence as people who have actually done it in the PREM like Lambert, Austin, Crouch, Kevin Philipps, Rob Earnshaw and the like. Mbappe is not fit to lace their boots.

Kevin Phillips, 30 PREM goals in his first season in the PREM, for SUNDERLAND.

People need to remember that this is the PREM, where it's virtually impossible to score. Only a handful of players ever have.
