VVD seemed to lack composure at times against Leicester, and he was clearly lacking in concentration on more than one occasion. Not a terrible performance by any means, but I have to agree with the above poster (I forget his name), in saying that it was an off day for him.

Even on an off day he improves Liverpool significantly.

He must have very high standards for some people, perhaps unrealistic ones as from what I saw he won absolutely everything. Once he dived in, which can be classed as an error but overall he did well.

but has he improved liverpool significant?

Really, it's all a matter of consistency as far as the defence is concerned. Errors, lapses in concentration and complacency can all undermine confidence but our back line looks far more resilient this season as borne out in the stats. Big test up next though, for sure.

We're going down there as league leaders & they will look to turn us over. VVD to really earn his corn.

I'd like to point at Troy Deeney who was my man of the match against Spurs, scoring one of two headers and being a plague for their 5-man defense. vvd was bought to handle 1. strong players like Deeney 2. cope with crosses, corners, etc. It's amusing to see both vertonghen and alderweireld make errors against this 'lowly' man who also threw Sanchez away in a physical battle. There was also no leadership present during the game.

And this is why i rate vvd higher than both Belgians.

Liverpool concede just 0.59 goals per game and keep a clean sheet in 58.8% of Premier League matches VVD has played in.

Comparing that to matches he hasn’t featured in since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, that number jumps to 1.2 goals conceded per match, and a clean sheet percentage of only 33.33% - showing he’s more than doubled Liverpool’s defensive output.

That vast defensive improvement is by no accident. Liverpool are allowing fewer shots (6.71 to 7.80 per match) and giving away fewer fouls (8.2 to 9.5 per match) when the Dutch defender is involved.

The former Southampton man’s calm presence applies with the ball too, with Liverpool’s average possession growing from 59.3% to 64.0% when the Dutchman plays.

Since his January arrival, no Premier League player has been a part of as many clean sheets as Van Dijk, with his 10 shutouts topping the list ahead of teammate Andrew Robertson (9 clean sheets), and Tottenham duo Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies (6 apiece).

Id suggest that is is rather embarrassing for you to suggest that a very reasonable post could be considered embarrassing, when you offer no substance in your point, and your portfolio of inputs is really rather poor quality and ill informed. I wouldn't expect you to be able to recognise that though.

They aren’t ‘crude statistics’ you absolute cretin, they are evidence to back up fact.

You are entitled to your opinion but your opinion is absolute nonsense, you have shown zero evidence to back it up. That is mainly down to the fact there is nothing to support it.

Using Red’s example , your opinion is equivalent to that of somebody who believes the world is flat. Pure, absolute nonsense with not a shred of evidence to support it. It’s why ‘flat earthers’ get relentlessly ridiculed and laughed at for being delusional. It’s Exactly the same with your rubbish opinion.

If you ever find evidence rather than ‘because I say so and it’s my opinion’ to back up this ridiculous claim that VVD hasn’t significantly improved us, let me know.

Until you manage that or admit you were wrong, expect to be mocked and laughed at like the flat earthers.

VVD had a fairly good game against France. That tackle on Mpabbe was magnificant and he rightly got the plaudits for it. He could do nothing about Girouds volley though.
