From the OP "In my opinion, the way Klopp sets up his teams makes defending very challenging for any defender, and the pressure (due to energetic and swift attacking) that they are often placed under makes it difficult for any defensive player to be consistently good."

I think a fair argument would be that the article flies in the face of what's been the most successful tactic of recent times. Used although with their own unique styles by both Klopp and Pep Guardiola (among others) and that is defending from the front.

I get where the author is coming from as logically you might expect defenders to end up being exposed high up field but it's just not the case when the press is implemented properly.

Examples of exposed defending happen more at sides like at Arsenal and United where often players aren't well drilled and it ends up with some pressing and some dropping off meaning the opposition has the space and time to expose the defense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, someone with a decent sense of perspective and an ability to make a rational and well reasoned point. I think that is fair comment and I accept that. I also suggest that this same line of reasoning that as an individual, VVD is less important than the successful implementation of the planned system for the team as a whole. VVD hasn't been liverpools best centre back this season, but things still aren't looking bad for the team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you're still being harsh on the player now. He's definitely been a huge and crucial part of the successful side Klopp has assembled. Tactically Klopp got it spot on but as part of the team VVD has not only elevated his own game but the whole teams
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I am, though it seemed a reasonable argument to make at the time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At least you're coming around to realise that you made a sharticle.

Tbf to Brainless, he was correct with regard to last season

Agreed, so I will overlook your juvenile name calling

Ovelook whatever you like. You are so brainless that my comment went straight over your head and you took it as a compliment.

I'll explain it for you. VVD didn't improve Liverpool significantly last season because he was injured for most of it you fecking idiot.

Quite embarrassing that you think your (in your mind) clever and subtle point/joke (not sure) was missed, so now you feel you have to explicitly refer back to it. The fact it that it was not mentioned is because its quite obvious, clearly incorrect and not worth mentioning. Seeing as you have, it is worth pointing out that in the games running up to his injury VVD was really quite poor at times, and not the messiah that you deluded folk would like to believe

You cling onto that. It's about all you have after this car crash of an article.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an article I wrote, so it seems reasonable for me to continue to contribute, and ultimately it seems the only people clinging on are those who continually revisit this after literally years since it was written. Seems that most of you can't handle an intelligent and independent poster who is unafraid of not being in your deluded echo chamber of groupthink.

I think that's 2 or 3 variations on the same dreadful attempt at humour amongst the last batch of poor quality posts. If you can't be good, at least try and be original.

Well done on making a comment with next to no value whatsoever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus being on a par with every comment that you've written on here.

Well done to you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The previous comment had next to no value, but yours has none at all. Quite hard to do. In a weird way, you should be proud of that (though obviously you shouldn't, as it was rubbish).
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeez you really are thicker than whale spunk aren't you lad.

Just about every single visitor to this site who has read this abortion of an article is either laughing at you or shaking their head in pity and have been for years.

There's nothing more comical than the likes of yourself talking out of their rrrs and then talking other people down as if you had even half their intelligence...

If I was actually talking people down in a way that made me appear to have half their intelligence, I'd probably use phrases that referenced things like 'whale spunk'
