Casuals will eat this fight up and still claim it's a legitimate opponent for Fury.

I think people underestimate 'casuals' or have a different meaning of it to me.

Other than 2 specific mates, most guys I know from work or mates I would see out of work don't really 'follow' boxing, just the headlines, just the PPV fights as a reason to have a few beers and a takeaway or go to the pub. None of them would ever watch a regular fight night card on TV, or know who the next mandatory is for any of the belts.

Yet, of all those who most boxing fans would deem as 'casuals', I very much doubt any will look forward to, or pay for/go out to watch Fury Chisora, some of them have already said what a crock of shiyte it is he's fighting a washed up punchbag again.

casuals to me watch 2/3 fights a year

basically AJ/Fury fights and only if they are UK time.

anything else must have a side angle story in order to get these guys in IMO.

Most casuals I speak to dont even know there is more than one belt in each weight division.

they couldnt tell you the weight anyone who isnt a heavyweight.

Almost all casuals think Chisora is a top fighter and a contender.

anyone who watches 3/4 fights a year is a casual , those who watch it fairly regular are fans maybe once a month. people who watch it ever weekend, follows the social media channels, posts on a specific boxing forum is a hardcore.

I fall into that later category obv (cos I like to blow me own trumpet) but my love of the sport has definitely dropped over the last cpl years or so.

wouldnt say the love of the sport actually thats wrong. I still go to the gym and spar regular, my enthusiasm for watching boxing has taken a hit in the last couple of years.

They're not casuals they're just people with no interest in the sport at all, but are just watching something for the occasion.

I'm not a 'casual' fan of athletics, but I'll watch the mens 100m final.

they are casuals, they pretty much watch all AJ's fights, talk about boxing whenever their is a huge UK fight. (not American boxing however). thats what a casual is . someone thats not that interested in being knowledgeable about the sport but will watch the big events.

Thats exactly how I describe a casual. someone who watches but isnt really a fan of the sport.

If you couldnt tell me the top4/5 sprinters in the world then Id say you are a casual, you like to watch the main events but dont have much in depth knowledge.

I can be quite arrogant however and sometimes a bit elitist.

I have done "combat sports" for most of my life and I am really bad for being patronising because I dont have many mates that are into it the way I am.

I agree with this, that's the bracket most of my friends are in.

And I'm saying that these type of people do not think Chisora is still a top 5 fighter and a good opponent for Fury. They think it's an awful fight.

Probably stream it and have a few beers, but definitely not pay for it or be interested in getting a ticket. I was responding to Guv who thinks casuals will 'eat this fight up and claim its a legitimate opponent for Fury'.

id say they are fans but dont follow it as much as they maybe once did.

I dont think they will eat it up but enough will see the fight and tune in to make it worth their while.

I think a lot of the casuals wil think this is a legitimate fight.

they follow names , not talent. a proper casual prob thinks Delboy only has a few losses on his record.

Casuals will watch the fight just because it's Fury and once Chisora flips a table at one of the press conferences.

posted on 19/10/22

casuals would struggle to name 3 fighters better than Chisora.

Casuals couldnt even tell you the name of the guy that just beat AJ twice!

A casual fan to me:
Only watches and follows the really big names
Doesn't know anything about other weight classes/belts
Doesn't follow boxing news/stories
Doesn't understand how styles/match ups work
Doesn't understand about mandatories
Makes generic/simplistic deductions
Buys into anything that makes the headlines

Agreed.

But disagree that those people think Chisora is a top 5 fighter just because they've heard his name before.

Problem is though Guv is the casual is generally the one who banks roll the boxing culture we have - and boxing itself is its own worst enemy as everything is behind a pay wall these days so following is extremely hard to do unless you are dedicated. Added on top of that why too many belts, and basically too much money evolved (so fighters are protected much more) and ducking is hurting the sport. Boxing is suffocating itself and fecking Youtubers make more money boxing than pros tells us a lot at where the sport unfortunately has fallen to.

Like should you really even be called a boxer if you only need to box once a year?? Thats not even part time!!

the casual is 100% where the gravy train lies!

that and also the most technical fighters can also be the most "boring" fighters. Punters just want to see guys try and knock each others heads off !!

its not ducking its promotors protecting their investments. and thats due to the fans (and more so the actual fans and not the casuals) some boxing fans are the worst man..... if someone doesnt have an 0 on their record then they are bum. guy could be the best fighter in his country but fans think he is a bum.

the average casual think that Chisora is one of the top fighters. as a test next time ask a genuine casual.. in fact do it right now in your work... get them to name 4 fighters better than chisora at HW..... hell get them to name 2 other HW's other than Chisora, AJ or Fury ....... they might get Wilder but after that I think they struggle
