England holding on here...just...
Root always gets those starts and 50s. Many players tend to struggle that bit. If he converted even 30% of his 50s he would probably by on par with smith/Kohli in centuries.
welldone NZ hammered the England morons.
Hopefully things will change now. if cook cant handle it any more he needs to go. I don't care if hes got a good record. we want players that are focused.. Cooks always been a moron anyway..
Just like most of em. Sad to say I think we should give someone else the captains job as well.. My pick would be bairstow.
A better effort from England in their second innings, though that wouldn't have been difficult. They should look at a few changes for the second Test. If Stokes can bowl that will give them more flexibility. They should then think about bringing in Leach and Wood to give some variety to the attack, with Overton or Moeen dropping out.

At least he shows some passion (headbutting the aussies) Root is another cook!

The captaincy is ruining Roots batting anyway!.
If you happy with him continuing to fail due to the pressures (our best batsman) then so be it.

Liver gonna still blame Stoky for engluund’s loss.
Any new comment on Stoky’s second innings? I think he scored 66 but not good enough. He should have scored at least another 100 or so 😂😂
One thing for sure that englundd is champ in loosing games by an innings. Even with so much rain intervention, they did not disappoint us 😂😂

Time for Cooky to call it a day I think. Woeful run of form barring that double in the Ashes (after they had already been lost).

He would probably be done if there was anyone waiting in the wings. It's been tough enough to find one opener to partner him for 5 years.

Just when you think Cook has seen better days...he suddenly becomes one of the best batsmen in the world...
Great if kohli or smith got those starts every single time as root has got atleast 50%+ would have been converted to big 100s. Root has only got 2. Root has immense talent but now I think it’s a mental thing. Something happens to him once he starts crossing those 50’s.

I'm not doubting that at all. There is an issue there. Let's be honest though, Roots batting, when you consider those scores, is pretty far down on the list of issues with our current team.
No spinner.
Need at least one new opener.
Need a number 3.
Need some variation in our pace attack
Need some pace in our pace attack.
Need to be able to manage conditions and adapt way we play.
Need to hold on to more catches.
Need to occupy the crease and play for time when things are tough.
If we fix those issues then we can maybe look at Root, who averages close to 50 even during this "rough patch" he's had since being captain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very well analysis. Very few England fans here talk so sensible otherwise we have to deal with jokers like Liver 😂
Would like to see leach and Livingstone given their debuts the next test. Livingstone at 6. Depend on stokes being able to bowl. Moeen should be dropped, shame as he used to be worth his place as a batter but he's gone to pot. If wood comes in too then it would have to be for broad or woakes. Can't see that. Would be for overton but only if stokes not fit to bowl.

Cook
Stoneman
Root
Malan
Livingstone
Stokes
Bairstow
Woakes
Wood
Leach
Jimmy
Don't think the selectors would drop Broad and have a long tail like that though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I like the look of this line up with what we have available in the squad. Livingstone is a supreme talent and England surely have to add a batsman to their line up for the next test.
England wanting Woakes at 9 and Broad at 10 to stabilise the batting so far down just means they have no confidence in their top order to do the job. Put the pressure on the top order by saying "we need our top 6 to score runs because once we go 7 down, the opposition is into the tail"
I really like Moeen but he's not a top spinner and he never will be. He does get moved all over the place in the order but his best position is at 7. If we can't play him at 7 because we want to play 5 batsmen, Stokes, Bairstow, 3 more seamers and a primary spinner, then he shouldn't be picked.
For me, Livingstone and Leach have to play the 2nd test!
Moeen and Woakes have been dropped. Leach will surely come in and it's between Wood and Vince. I guess it will depend on Stokes and whether he can bowl or not.
So the batsman fail and England drop 2 bowlers?
Moeen axe was coming tbh.
