We've been on a 'war' footing for a few years now.
The nature of global armed conflicts have evolved in the 21st century.
Precision military action is where we're at.
You've also got the propaganda war with Russia (& ISIS) which should be taken far more seriously than it is. For some reason the ridiculous statements from the Putin regime are generally seen as a bit of a joke but their media activities are insidious and very dangerous. They use our right to freedom of speech in the UK against us, peddling their brand of false reports & anti-West rhetoric to divide, destabilise & influence the ill--informed and the host of naive anti-establishment student politics groups festering within our schools, universities and mainstream political parties.
The UK Govt. should be looking to close down Russian media outlets broadcasting in the UK, properly control social media content & weed out & expel these academics in UK universities who are spreading pro-Assad, pro-Putin, anti-West, anti-democratic disinformation and spurious conspiracy theories promoted by Russia.
Same applies to these faith schools that OSFSTED have highlighted concerns over their pro-Islamist, pro-ISIS teaching. The fact this is allowed to continue in the UK is a total disgrace.
Highly dangerous indoctrination, attempting to influence impressionable minds.
If we are 'at war' - and I believe we are - all these activities should be regarded as traitorous and the perpetrators should be dealt with under our treason laws.
It's about time people woke up and realise we've been sleepwalking to disaster.

How dare you comment in an objective manner on here!!
this is the most balanced comment in the whole article in my opinion.

Had to get that off my chest.

Islam schools are not pro ISIS wtf lol. There are also a large amount of Jewish schools, what would your opinion be if they are spewing anti palestine hatred?
I’m not gonna dispute this pro- russian propaganda media outlets as I haven’t researched it. However does what your suggesting not go against freedom of speech which is what you love so much about democracy? Lastly, what about all the pro-West and anti-russian media that is constantly spewed out in this country. Is that not propaganda also?
Black hawk down(Somalia). The involvement in Kosovo..Examples where US and others had nothing to gain. Just shooting down the dumb Zimbabwe argument from the "not in my name" brigade. There are 4 or more conflicts happening at any one time in the world. Surely its not up to the West to police every single one and get involved. As someone said you are Damned if you do and damned if you dont.
We are not starting a war in Syria or sending ground troops but just disabling their Chemical facilities. Nothing wrong with that.
Perhaps, maybe perhaps some people do have a heart and want to help others without expecting something back.
Why is this hard for some to understand.?
the Chemical weapons attacks were clearly faked by the Sunni jihadist rebels. Honestly, why would Assad use chemical weapons when he's winning the war

Clearly?
You have proof of that do you?
Get much work as a Russian bot?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
do you have proof otherwise ?
seriously why would assad, who has the war well won know, risk the wrath of the west by using chemical weapons
the rebels have everything to gain by staging a chemical attack themselves..it keeps the yanks and her puppies in the war

Children frothing at the mouth and half a million dead civilians is proof enough.

it's proof there has been a chemical weapons attack in syria
it does not prove who committed it

I’m just saying that people are again picking their side and listening to nothing else.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yh 100%. And because we are brought up in the west it is expected, and its propaganda actually based on the definition, that capitalism is good and socialism/communism is bad. Western leaders are good, middle east and russia are bad etc etc.
Most people picking sides purely pick them based on what they are indoctrinated with by their own country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The idea I like that i've seen put about is that we should impose democracy on syria by force.
some democracy that.
btw, Putin's no imbecile.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah people hate having choice forced upon them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
like the west trying to force 'democracy' on countries you mean ?
'I get more votes in my country if i can be seen to force another country to determine its government in a similar way, so i will force it upon you and your people by military action' democracy ?
fair point.

Hopefully this is just the precursor to removing Russia Today's licence to broadcast in the UK.
Salmond the Putin apologist is a disgrace. Taking Russian money for his hot air because no legitimate UK media outlet wanted him clogging up their schedules with his egotistical blather....

ROFL...
I referenced certain Islamist schools, as an example, to highlight the danger of these unregulated faith schools which obviously include the many private establishments of all religious denominations that have been allowed to exist outside the OFSTED regulated mainstream education system in this country.. Isolationism, in any form, is counterproductive & reinforces division - particularly when a particular ideology is fed, unchecked, to impressionable minds.
As for the media, in general the mainstream broadcast organisations in the UK present balanced coverage of world events. You could argue that this principle of objectivity and the desire to present all sides of the debate can sometimes grant more coverage to certain parties than they deserve.
