Morning Shanky. Is the team they have picked or is this the team you want to see playing over there?

No room for Broad or Dinger?

Don't know too much about Danny Briggs. You could trust him to do a good job out there?

Shanky if you were the selector of England the scoreline against India would have been 8-0 to them.

I don't see Morgans name on that list either. Isn't he a constant match winner for us?

Is Bairstow ready because of that one knock?

Morgan and Broad are injured Maksi.

The idea that England will fill the squad with a host of young kids is Ludicrous.

Stokes looked poor against spin in English conditions against 2 average spin bowlers. He needs to work on his game before coming back in the reckoning.

Thanks hopefor. No chance they will be fit in about a months time? We have strength in depth so I am not too worried either way

Stokes was chosen too soon after recovering from injury with little cricket under his belt.
Also it must be a handicap batting with a steel splint in a finger.
It will be interesting to see if the form of Bopara has really turned the corner or whether it's just one of those patches of promise he's had in the past. He's often 'flattered to deceive' in the past.

That is one of the most interesting things about English cricket for me hopefor, the form of Bopara. Most of our players are playing well and are consistent. Bopara is an unbelievably good cricketer when he is on song. He is an enigma. Either as good or as bad as anybody else in the game. I am starting to warm to him

Reckon the squad could be something like:
Cook
Kieswetter
Trott
Bell
Bopara
Bairstow
Stokes
Patel
Bresnan
Swann
Anderson
Finn
Dernbach
Woakes
Borthwick

Hoggy, do really believe Pietersen has retired or will be left out? and surely Jos Buttler will be under consideration.
I'm not sure Stokes will get the nod, I think they should wait until he's fully recovered and can offer a bowling option.

Am I being really slow here? Pietersen is retiring? How injured is Morgan? I could probably do some research but the lady has me hoovering a 3 story house now and I don't have much more time than just asking you guys about this stuff lol. You lot know your stuff so I know the info will be reliable

My squad would be similar but include Buttler and Pietersen with Patel left behind.
Cook
Kieswetter
Trott
Pietersen
Bell
Bopara
Buttler
Bairstow
Bresnan
Swann
Borthwick
Anderson
Finn
Dernbach
Woakes/an other spinner?

Maksi Pietersen has denied he will retire from ODI games but the rumour persists and he does like being in India where his profile is very high.

Actually, I simply forgot about KP
Put him in for Stokes.

lol Hoggy, we know we have a good side when you manage to forget about a player like KP All looks positive to me

I left Patel out because his fielding and bowling has been poor. Not being a regular and only getting one opportunity to bat has made it tough for him.

if buttler hasn't earned himself a place in the squad after yesterday then i dont know what more he has to do

we have known for awhile he can play the same type of innings that bairstow played the other night but yesterday he showed alot of maturity and composure coming in when somerset were in alot of trouble and at least give them a total to try and defend

he didn't take any risks but still managed to score at a run a ball or better for almost all his innings and then was able to play a few big shots towards the end

surely thats what we have been looking for in a #7 for awhile

only problem with both him and bairstow is if they play at 6 & 7 where do we get the last set of 10 overs from as neither can bowl

good position to be in tho

i know i will incur the wrath of hopeforthebest for this but with guys like that pushing for a spot then i dont see how we can justify keeping giving bell more chances

Rich I think Bell will be in the squad but not as a front line choice. He will return to that invidious position of utility player he's so often occupied. Stand in for Kieswetter, Trott and Pietersen. I don't believe he will play at 5 or six.
If Buttler plays he should be at 5 but Bopara will almost certainly start in that position.

i know this wont happen but i wouldn't mind them experimenting with either bell or KP opening and giving buttler the gloves down the order

Isn't Bairstow a better wicket keeper? Buttler only keeps when Kieswetter is unavailable.

yeah bairstow would be fine

i dont know i am just not convinced about kieswetter opening , his stats are ok but he just doesn't look comfortable to me and against better attacks than hes faced this summer will struggle i think

posted on 18/9/11

I think Bell would be a much better choice to open but Andy Flower has a fixed formula of having a wicket keeper open and Kieswetter hasn't been a total failure. If he continues to get out LBW things might change.

agreed about kieswetter , he hasn't done anything to deserve to be dropped , i just think we could be a better XI with giving someone else the gloves and giving us more options for our middle order

Kieswetter was batting beautifully a couple of days ago and was wrongly given out LBW. God knows what he would have gone on to score. Him and Cook will continue to open and then we have to find places for the rest of these excellent batsmen/hitters. India need to find some bowlers and quickly. God knows what we would have, and could have scored at Cardiff against that weak attack.
It will be another series win for England because we have them by the jugular

posted on 18/9/11

Maksi it's true that the last LBW was missing leg stump but that was the third LBW for him in 5 innings. It's a weakness that he has to overcome. Missing straight deliveries has also seen him bowled more than once.
