i just think we would be making a mistake not experimenting more now with lineups and looking at different options
we dont need to play the same team every game and should be trying different players rather than sticking to a fairly static XI and then in 2 years time decide things maybe aint working and by that time we have missed the chance to get some experience into some of these young players
Against India we were fortunate to have the opportunity in every game to chase down a known target.
Batting first setting a target and then defending it is a more difficult task and one England have often failed at.
It's the ability to do both that separates the best from the also rans.
"Against India we were fortunate to have the opportunity in every game to chase down a known target."
At some stage I thought England would opt to defend a target and challenge themselves. That is the mentality of a champion side .. something the aussies and windies would do.
That in many ways tells me all I need to know about this England side and their future prospects.
Come off it Pox, when you win the toss every captain takes advantage of the conditions, they don't say hey let's test ourselves and bat first. Get real.

india losing every game and some of their senior players faking injuries so they can go home early and get ready for the champions league tells me more about the india side and their future prospects tbh

doesn't matter if its a good test for us or not , its what is agreed as part of the future tours programme and we have to honour that
i would have assumed you would have known how the f.t.p. works by now
Yes we won this series against a second string India team but I still feel the time is right to get the young lads in. Lets get them involved in the shorter format.
Cook and Trott in my truthful opinion just doesn't cut it for me. I cannot believe I am saying this, but I would leave Trott to do his magic in the test arena only, I know I know, he has an amazing average, is player of the year - I know all this. I just feel it would be pro-active for the future of one day team (which still needs so much work) to go with some young talent.
I am not 1 bit convinced by Kieswetter, who clearly looks more suited to the "heavy hitting" style of T20.
Patel, sadly fits into the pointless bits and pieces player who neither excites me as a bowler or batsman. I would take Briggs,
I sm not sure if Stokes can bowl yet, but I am a huge fan of this lad, He is the real deal and I feel we need to give him time. I would quite happily sacrifice this one day series to see young players benefit longterm. Only the management know if thie players have the relevant attitude for this. We can only go on what we see.
Bairstow also has a lot of work to do with his glovework, but again - he cannot be left out after that last effort. Besides, he is a Yorkshireman - He is one of God's own sons...He has the temperament to succeed and has that winning mentality.
My team and squad (which is no means the finished article, but could be beneficial to get them in the mix) is:
1: Hales (The new Matty Hayden)
2: Cook (c)
3: Bell (needs to stop the flattering to deceive)
4: Pieterson
5: Bopara (Not convinced, but improving and should be used as an all-rounder...)
6: Stokes (Huge talent and shares the 5th bowler birth with Bopara)
7: Bairstow (wk)
8: Bresnan
9: Swann
10: Briggs
11: Anderson (If he doesn't do the business I would drop him from one dayers for good. No good if he just does it at home),
12: Taylor
13: Buttler (wk)
14: Dernbach (Wondering if a T20 specialist but could do the biz on the sub)
15: Woakes
Obviously Broad and Morgan are injured.

I love Taylor India, hence the reason he is in my squad for the trip.
However, I cannot drop Bopara after his recent performances (that would be daft and arrogant) and Stokes deserves to be persevered with (also offers the bowling option).
Yorkie, so Trott's 63 off 60 balls does not convince you he has a change of gear? He averages 51 in 35 ODIs with a strike rate of 78.35.
Do you want all our batters to be stroke makers? We need someone to bat through and build partnerships, and with Trott and Cook, we have 2. Both have proved recently they are capable of putting the big shots in as well.
I'm glad we have a player of his quality to allow others to play the big shots, and still have a personal strike rate of just over 4 per over.
Yorki, at the moment Stokes doesn't offer a bowling option so should await a time that he's able to.
I must say looking at the stats of our spin options I'm not sure any are good enough to join Swann on this trip either.
A collingwood type bowler is likely to be as effective in India as our crop of young spinners.
Stokes, who bowls medium pace may in the future be the answer.
hope, I think he's a bit more than medium pace, and bagged a 6 for in 1st class cricket v Hants earlier this season before the finger injury.
Yorkie
you say you want the team to move forward and then pick a tried and tested failure like bell.
come on mate.the bloke is a very poor ODI player
HM I've not seen him bowl but cricinfo says he's right medium. Personally I see Woakes as someone to be a fine ODI player, I think he's a better batsman than many give him credit for.
Shanky, it's taken me two years to get rich1uk to see Bell as a fine ODI player so go away.
You're obsession with new kids on the block blinds you to the abilities of others.
Shanky - only a year or so ago people said Bell wasn't international quality (myself included due to his mind).
Now look at him. I agree he keeps scoring these 20s and 30's but I just feel that he is waiting to explode. Once he has a big score, he will be off.
HM - Fair shout about Trott. As I said, I cannot believe I am saying it myself. I think we need to pick 2 of 3 between Cook, Trott and Bell (even though Bell isn't as "defensive".
I am just looking at the balance of things and the youngsters I would really like to see in the team. Therefore I would sacrifice an experienced head.
Also Bell is a world class fielder, who covers a lot of ground. Him and Morgan are vital to our outfield.
But yes, I say leave out Trott with a very, very heavy heart!!!
Hope at the moment I would go as saying as Woakes is the "best" all rounder that England has.
He is a better batsman than Bresnan and Broad.
He is very equal in bowling also, but just lacks that yard of pace (that he apaprently needs).
I have very high hopes for him. Could become a genuine number 7.
Currently Bopara is flavour of the month especially, with Hussain, Cook and Gooch all connected to Essex but in his 60 ODI innings he's only got six half centuries to his name.
Bell has underperformed, we've seen that in this last series. He's got into the 'Pietersen' habit of getting out in foolish ways when in splendid form. That habit has definitely put him under pressure of a place in the team.
He deserves this tour on the back of his obvious ability.
If Bell continues to flatter to deceive, then I think we need to look elsewhere. Him and Pieterson need to shower greater consistency,
As I said, I am still not convinced by Bopara.
Incidentally, when is the squad for India named? The first warm up is on Oct. 8th so I guess they well leave a week before that date.
