Mans majestic BORE drowned out by incesst talk
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think I can summarise it by saying movie box office is massively down. Not entirely sure why. Fall Guy, Furiosa and Apes movies all seem to be getting pretty decent reviews by fans and critics but cinemas just aren't getting the numbers.
Maybe fans are just turning their back on Hollywood in general after too much rubbish coming out in recent years ?
I watched Furiosa at the weekend and had a fun time with it. Not sure why it's flopped as spectacularly as it has. If you liked Fury Road you'll like this one too. Obviously it's a shame that Mad Max isn't in it. But we might not even get any Mad Max sequels now this movie has tanked as badly as it has.

na its just that peoples set up get closer to cinemas with every passing year and we can get access to the films far faster than before.
couple that with the high prices and fewer showings in cinema is why.
My home set up is pretty decent, reclining couch, 60in tv with surround sound with no one else to annoy me and sometimes only need to wait 2 months max to get the film. Back in the day it used to be about a year afore we could watch the cinema released films.
I don’t think Furiosa and Garfield have flopped with 100+ mil in their first week
But the second week will tell us more tbh

it looks like it will flop bad .... to make a profit it prob needs to hit the £250-300m mark and its currently sitting at about £100m after over a weeks release.
they were targetting around £100m from week 1 release domestically and it did around £45m. to be considered a success it needs to hit around £300-400m wordlwide and its at about £100m world wide
Well if my cinema was anything to go by it's not looking good. There was less than ten other people in our screening.
Maybe fans are just turning their back on Hollywood in general after too much rubbish coming out in recent years ?

The age of streaming taking over IMO.
The Watched - 40
Inside Out 2 - 250
Bad Boys 4 - 425
Quiet Place 1 - 200
Despicable Me - 275
Twisters - 250
Deadpool 3 - 825
My P00P finally came out this morning. Spent all of about two minutes on it.

Yeah as I understand it it's going to be a huge money loser. Which is a real shame as it's a good Mad Max movie, albeit without Mad Max in it. Excellent action sequences and Chris Hemsworth does a fantastic performance as well.
Anyone hoping for a sequel to Fury Road can probably give that up after this

As I understand it George Miller has had rights issues over Mad Max which is why we didn't get a Fury Road 2 before now. But a flop and money loss of this nature would probably mean no studio is going to financially back any future Mad Max movies.
There's multiple factors that's been contributing to the decline in cinema...their exorbitant prices being one. Covid probably accelerated it but online consumption of everything has been the preferred choice for almost everyone. Even retail stores are going bust.
Saying that 2024 hasn't really been atrocious at the box office and tbh the marketing of the movies has been poor too if you think about what made Barbie the box office success it was.
*has really been atrocious

Yeah that's true. Suppose it can't be too much of a shock when people just prefer to stream these movies at home. Especially as there's not a big gap between cinema release and being able to stream.
Back in the day you'd have to wait at least 6 months before it released on video so you could watch it on your 20 inch TV at home lol.
taking the family to the cinema can cost around 50-70 quid on average.
With the setup most people can afford at home now its a damn site better option to just pay 7.99 and watch it at home
Yeah £50 plus for a family is a joke, just to watch a screen for two hours. You shouldn't have to pay more than a fiver for a cinema ticket.
Does make you wonder if cinemas will just start closing down at this rate like pubs have done. And you'll just have way less cinemas than you used to have.
Pun acknowledge my morning P00P !!
Going to the cinema used to be an event. Now it's a financial burden that could be circumvented by watching the movie at home or streaming.
I personally still visit the cinema for specific movies. I do not have kids, so the financial strain isn't as palpable.
We live in an age where attention spans are shorter. Most people wouldn't even be able to watch a movie for 2 hours at home, let alone watching it at the cinema.
It's all about providing content as quickly as possible at any time.
It's sad but this is a byproduct of technology.
