We live in an age where attention spans are shorter. Most people wouldn't even be able to watch a movie for 2 hours at home, let alone watching it at the cinema.

It's all about providing content as quickly as possible at any time.

It's sad but this is a byproduct of technology.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's an even wider concern though. A lot of people can't sit for two hours and concentrate on something without the need to check their phone to see what someone had for breakfast on Facebook.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
somewhat disagree with this, this generation now binge watch tv series, forget 2hrs people watch 8/9/11 hrs worth of a series.

Its more down to the luxuries at home and the cinema just not being worth it IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok there's definitely truth in that. But why are people turning up in their droves to watch Avatar 2 ? Which did 2 billion.

cos its a film that specifically utilises the visuals of something you cant get at home. it is a visual based film and for that reason people went out to get the very best experience of a film that lends itself soley to that experience. Or so I believe anyway.

The difference in watching an Avatar at cinema from home is not the same as watching other big hits IMO.

Yeah true. But couldn't the visual bonanza aspect thing apply to lots of movies ?

Like Furiosa was a visual bonanza with great action sequences that aren't going to look as good if not seen on a big screen. And yet that movie is tanking by all accounts.

I understand that the world Cameron created in Avatar is unique.

it would only apply to visual specific films.

I dont think and neither does the majority of the world imo. No one sees Furiosa as a visual ground-breaking film the way Avatar is/was.

Avatar is pretty much a full on visual effort and like I said was completely ground breaking and pushing the boundaries of what can be done visually.

They should’ve marketed Furiosa as something worth the IMAX fee

I disagree.

People do binge watch but it's because they can stop and do other things. I doubt people are watching a show for several hours in a row, without getting up to do other things or pausing it, or checking their phones during the show.

It's the same reason why nobody reads books anymore.

Agreed.

Based on the trailers, Furiosa doesn't offer anything more in terms of action, than the Fast and furious franchise does.

It wouldn't have helped.

Furiosa is a movie about a character that most people don't have an interest in and it's based on a franchise that hasn't been active since 2015. Even then, Mad Max isn't a franchise that would have a big enough following to make a dent in the box office.

hmm not sure about that,

Film lengths have increased over the years not decreased, as do tv shows, most shows used to be only 25mins long that seems to be rare now.

unless your watching a 45mins star wars episode

I don't think people are sitting through shows without pausing or going on their phones. The invested fans aside of course.

It's definitely way better than the dumb Fast and Furious movies. Those movies are for people with less than five brain cells

Furiosa is a high quality movie and worthy predecessor to Fury Road, if not quite as good. Still well worth seeing and you can watch them back to back.
