I don't think you should worry about wages too much. If we wanted to sign someone of Ramsey's calibre we would have to pay high wages and a high transfer fee.
Wenger's salary will help cash flow too.
My guess is that the board has already decided to sell Ramsey this summer. He is out of contract next summer, and so far he has failed to reach any agreement on an extended deal. I'm assuming that Ramsey may be waiting to see who the next manager is going to be, but after the distraction last season of the Alexis Sanchez saga, I reckon that Arsenal will sell him this summer if he does not commit very soon.

I'd like Ramsey to stay, but doubling his wage is ridiculous. Let's see if he actually generates interest at top clubs first.

Of course, if a better solution for Arsenal comes up then sign him up. But he will want at least a 75% rise I am sure.
The wage cap is a nonsense though. Any serious club would fack that off...
What's the worst they'll do? A fine. We have the cash, it's self generated - we can spend it if we want

They haven't broken the wage rules though...
Surely we can circumvent the system? Like the Auba deal, hand him a hefty bonus the equivalent of a decent weekly wage rise.
We cannot be losing players like Ramsey. Sure his wage demands will be hefty but he wins trophies and scores important goals.

Maybe.
Does Ramsey even want to stay?

There you have a point. Depends on the next manager. If it's Arteta i can see him want to move and try for a bigger club.
What big club will come in for him though? He has good stats, very good actually, but I can't see top clubs making him a key player.
Can't see many paying Ramsey significantly more than £120k a week.

£35m - £50m for Ramsey? Seems a bit steep.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You paid how much for Sissoko?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Overpaying for one player doesn't mean every other average player should be overpaid for.

But it isn't one player. Last summer alone there were plenty of midfielders no better (mainly worse) than Ramsey sold for that price range. A year before too, including Sissoko - signed by a club hardly known for spending big! It is quite a standard price range for good midfielders these days.

The issue is most of these examples involve a selling club who do not want to sell.

Not really. Most of these clubs were willing to sell.
Of course we can get round this nonsense cap, no chance there would be a points deduction or transfer ban. Particularly if you're only spending your own self generated funds
These wage rules should be scrapped or changed with the constant inflation of wages, if a club has the money they should spend it how they want. Ramsey's a quality player but shouldn't be in a midfield 2 unless it's as next to an out and out DM. We'd have been better playing him as attacking midfielder instead of Ozil imo, he played there for Wales at the last Euros and he was excellent.

The rule makes very little sense. Bring in an actual wage cap if you really want to stop wage inflation.
We may not have a choice anyway, Ramsey has always wanted to play abroad & the continual talk is that he doesn’t like Arteta - so it’s probable that he will force a transfer by refusing to re-sign regardless of what we offer him π
