some interesting bowling averages for moeen :
home 32
away 53
1st innings 52
2nd innings 28
batting :
home 39
away 28
1st innings 36
2nd innings 27
Moeen is handy at home but struggles away as there seems to be more pressure on him when pitches are either turning or flat.
Woakes has some really distorted averages home and away. At home he averages 47 with the bat and 23 with the ball compared to 20 with the bat and 61 with the ball away from home.
Out strength is definitely in our all rounders especially at home but you need very good specialists in test cricket to get to the top.
Its probably to much to ask for a good batting day from England. But you live in hope. This could be the day that decides the series or keeps it alive for India

moeen's record bowling in asia compared to bowling in England is crazy.
someone must be able to put that right.
the idea that it's because there is more pressure on him when the wicket's turning strikes me as ridiculous. not saying that you saying it is ridiculous, just that if it is true it's ridiculous that that hasn't been sorted out. it simply should not be the case.
Cook out for 12. Moeen has come in at 3!
Oxenford warns Ishant twice for stepping onto the danger area yet Anderson shown to do it ball after ball on sky. Absolutely chit umpire with a clear agenda. Faaack off.
Jennings out lbw for 36, used up a review. Ball kept low, to be fair. England 92-3 at lunch.
Terrible from Bairstow
Driving at that ffs, awful shot
Root run out. That's all England need.
England’s batting starts from now. India to keep the pressure on
If we aren’t batting by close of play today - England will win this game.
Ashwin doesn’t seem fully fit to me. There isn’t that same spring in his action.
Evenly poised game at the moment, India slightly ahead imo. Wicket is deteriorating though so the longe England are out there it’s going to be easier to take wickets. Got to dig in with the bat this evening.
if buttler gets a ton here could Bairstow's place be under threat ?

This partnership has won the game for England imo. We will not be chasing anywhere near 200. We struggled for less at Edgbaston and Cape Town. Plus the pitch has shown great signs of spin and low bounce on day 3. Ashwin isn’t fully fit quite clearly and that will probably be the difference.

Our batting line up is absolutely terrible.
I’d drop Jennings, move everyone up the order and stick woakes in about 7
I have more faith in a bowler who can bat than bringing anyone in who is a batsman

it's a bit incredible to think that it's a serious consideration to try the existing bowlers out as batsmen, rather than picking new specialist batsman, but entirely understandable in the circumstances, and on the basis that there are so many "allrounders" who have demonstrated that when fit deserve to be in the side in some capacity, one that does seem the reasonable option to go with.
although everyone's complaining about how many allrounders we have, it's worth noting that these guys (and you could include Bairstow, buttler, ali, stokes, woakes, curran), are all proper cricketers, unlike the bits and pieces guys like ealham, irani, adam hollioake that would be getting into the side 20 years ago.
Lead is now 226 with 3 wickets left
Cold be very interesting tomorrow
Very disappointing day from us and Kohli. Poor fields, persisting with Ashwin far too long when it was obvious he isn’t doing much and then not changing things up. Pandya only bowled in over 66. This game is gone in the blink of an eye. We will not be chasing anywhere near this score. Game set and match to England sadly.
England done ok today I guess...
all to play for
Can England try and push the lead as close to 300 as possible. I'd say England very slight favourites but still anyone's game.
This game is still pretty even. Wicket is not doing that much so plenty to play for.
