We’ve never chased over 170 in England in the fourth innings and this pitch is showing huge signs of turn and low bounce. Anyone that thinks this is an even game anymore is quite frankly deluded. England will win quite comfortably.

oh ello...someone's given up
all depends on Kohli basically
If this is the third test you can say it’s goodnight India, but India’s batting has been good in the last couple of games. Even if England get 275 lead, they are only slight favourites...... good game though.

Not about giving up. It’s about applying common sense. The lead is already 230 with it likely to be in excess of 250 once England are bowled out. You also have two spinners in your XI which we do not. Today was a very poor day for us. Two Indian batsmen not just Kohli have to play once in a lifetime innings for us to even get close which is very very unlikely. Plus we have a habit of bottling chases once Kohli is removed - see Edgbaston, Cape Town or Adelaide for proof.

I’m with Kav here. India’s record in chases is quite poor. Will be miracle if we can win this. India have 2 batsmen in Pujara and Kohli in form. After that the batting can give England top order a good competition of who bats worse.
England should get 250 lead. I do fancy England for the reason. Its gonna be hard to score quickly and if England bowl straight theres enough off the pitch to cause a collapse.
That was a good day of cricket where no one got too far ahead or behind. India always looked slightly ahead with every wicket that fell. However England looked good with every partnership that was built. I reckon England just about have enough so any more runs now are a bonus. With Curran still at the crease, England could potentially increase their lead by another 50 runs.

The trouble is the guys at the other end. My guess is England's lead will be around 250 and India will have a real chance of overtaking it.

Can I just say, as someone who was less than supportive of Jos Buttler's inclusion in the Test side, what a pleasure it's been to see him develop into what looks like a proper Test bat

Why do India need to score quickly? they will have nearly two days to score the runs. Play like proper Test cricketers, and they should win.

there are no English qualified players in first class cricket called 1 2 or 3 either. hardly the point.
I would pick Hales, Roy, burns, root, bell, stokes, butler, moeen, Curran, broad, Anderson. Would drop bairstow for lying about being fit when he's clearly not.
yeah, good side too. curran too low at 9 though ??
trouble with hales and roy is that the problem is finding openers who'll see off the new ball for as long as possible, and that solution is pick the T20 pair
not saying they can't do the job or that it won't work. just that it's an odd one, as so many things seem to be atm.

No? I was sure they'd be the answer to our problems.
Probably better than our current top 3
Hales and Roy are middle order players at best in the longer format.
I was reading that England aren't sure on Burns due to his quirky technique. I think if we win then we will go with the same XI for the next test.
