Only club with no debt

Arsenal's last numbers indicate a net debt of £47m, plus £15m payable as interest.

Quite impressive, considering they borrowed £260m for the new stadium during a recession, and then subsequently got stuck with other property developments they couldn't shift to top up the remaining £120m.

Say what you will about the FA, the fact remains that every single club in the league would fold without the money from the TV deals.

"......Everton's figures reflect the takeover by the Monaco-based Farhad Moshiri, the long-term executive associate of the Uzbek-Russian magnate Alisher Usmanov, who remains a 30% Arsenal shareholder.

Moshiri sold his 15% Arsenal stake to Usmanov, freeing him to buy 49.9% of Everton, where he has loaned £104m interest-free for funding and debt repayment......."

A £104m interest-free personal loan? Nothing like a bit of alchemy from the Everton accounting department, is there?

Everton spent £170m last season. I don't think the squad is even worth that now.

Did they? Or does net spend only apply to Liverpool then?

Unless an unbearable financial collapse happens to Liverpool, I can't see Everton overtaking them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let us pray it does. Nearly happened 4/5 years ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It nearly happened in 2013/14? I must have missed that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When was G&H and all that jazz. They did the club good, someone said debt is good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A good few years before 2013/14.

Well should have some good debt then.....debts good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No you don't have any debt Arouna, that's the point of the article.

I'm just saying that your signings have been sh!t and lost value.

You spent £170m on transfers end of. Net spend is bollox. There isn't some petty cash tin marked "transfers" and an excel spreadsheet.

The club makes money and it spends money and last season it spent £170m on transfers.

Arouna, manageable debt that helps you build a new stadium or increase revenue is good, yes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So when we get debt, that will be good debt then. But right now we do not have any...andnthats bad?

So, Everton are not in debt. Well done Everton. They're not in any European competition either next season so, em, well done again.

They're not exactly top of the pile when it comes to selecting managers, or identifying and buying the right players for their team either, are they? So, once again, well done Everton.

The near-mutinous and very public atmosphere in the dressing room as reported by the Press again puts them in a class of their own, so, once again, etc.

Everton, either in debt to their ears or loadedto the gunnels with endless wealth, is a great club and deserves respect, and I mean that.

But to try and chalk up some credit by being debt-free, despite due praise for achieving that, is nearing the bottom of the barrel in terms of praise.

Do you believe the press. If so how do you feel about Salah being touted by his agent to Barca?

I wouldn’t normally comment, but you do make a good point regarding the press and how they are always good for this kind exposure.

Ohhh Everton.

*Pat on the head. Ruffle of the hair*

Oh go on then. You can be top of the no debt league if you reeeeally want. But that's the only league you can be top of. Leave the premier league for the big boys

How do you get a good credit rating? You accumulate debt for certain things, credit cards/car finance/mortgage you pay it off on time and in full and your credit rating improves. That’s why people with thousands owing have a better credit rating than those who have never borrowed a penny in their lives.

It’s a simple concept really.

It better to use a facilitator like LCC to get great rates and then put a little back into the City coffers as a way of saying thanks.

I will make sure I am up to my eyes in debt if I ever need a loan to make sure I get maximum value.

Who said ‘up to your eyes in debt’?

Debt is good both domestically and from a business perspective as explained above. Not surprised you don’t get it though.
