I'm not denying the obvious economic benefits of immigration - more (low paid) jobs, for example. I am saying that unrestricted net immigration will be a contributing factor to high rents.
I'm basing this partly on anecdotal evidence (there was a decent debate about this on BBC 5Live recently), but it's quite obvious that rent prices reflect the demand - Landlords make nothing from empty houses, after all, so it's not likely that they will price themselves out of a deal. I'm not saying that greed isn't a factor, but if there were other options then rents would be much lower.
We can use London as our petri dish. London has a population growth rate more than double that of anywhere in the UK. 10.7m people live in London - 2 million more than in did as recently as 2016... 40% of the people living in London - according to the last census - were born outside of the UK. Poverty in London in the same period has jumped to 27%(!!)... Homelessness has risen to 54,300, median real weekly earnings has dropped by 10%... These might be mere coincidences, and there might be other contributing factors, but can you deny that immigration might be a contributing factor?
If we continue to see net immigration in the hundreds of thousands then eventually our living standards will seriously deteriorate (rents, salary etc..). By "us" I mean those currently residing in Britain; whether it be us or our children, at some point it will have a serious and notable impact. It's just about reaching that breaking point, whether that's 70m, 80m... 100m... why not stop the prevailing trend now and do us all a favour?
It's just my opinion, but it's my opinion heavily entrenched in simple mathematics and common sense - there will be a breaking point. I am not asking for no immigration; that's not what I want. I want an equal amount of comers and goers, so that we can all benefit.

London is a whole discussion its itself and you can't just apply learnings there to the whole country.
I don't mean any offence but you sound like you've made your mind up that immigration is the key topic that needs to be addressed.
I think you'll find that is not remotely correct but I find it's the result of how heavily this has been pushed by certain sections of the media.
I don't think it's possible to debate this properly on here, so will bow out now.

We can certainly at least theorise on what the implications of extrapolating the population growth of London across the rest of the UK would be, by letting London serve as the example. Declining living standards in London at least infer that impact of over-population, doesn't it?
Incidentally, I don't think immigration is the biggest problem this country faces. I don't think immigration is a problem at all, but I do think uncontrolled immigration is one of the many challenges facing this country. Immigration was merely the topic of discussion on this thread when I joined it. Well, immigration and veganism...

For the same boundary to take in the population of Bitmingham in 2 years would be phenomenal, something reminiscent of China or India
