Huge card this weekend. Predictions?
Ok UFC 259 predictions:
Adesanya via sub
Nunes via UD
Yan via UD
Islam via sub
Santos via TKO
Jan vs Izzy: 3rd round KO for....Jan. Can't believe I wrote that but he's far too big and hits like a effin train and certainly not as slow as the other light-heavyweights Izzy has fought in the past. I keep on being reminded of the Alex Pereira fight which was also at light-heavyweight. He took Izzy's soul that night.
Amanda vs Megan. Nunes, 2nd round sub. Amanda will have to get inside of Megan's long reach and beat her up on the ground. I'm going for a rear naked choke on that one.
Petr vs Sterling: Gut feeling Petr will stop him in the 3rd.
All in all, a great card.

Adesanya via sub?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel like Jan will struggle to get a read on Adesanyas varied striking and he will try and shoot for a takedown, deep into the fight, which will create a submission chance for Adesanya.

Jan could KO Adesanya but I just feel Adesanya will be cautious in the early stages, like in the Romero fight.
I don't see anything but a Nunes win but I do feel Megans reach and size will cause her some difficulty.
Yan vs Sterling is a 50/50 but I lean towarda Yan over 5.

Jan has more subs than KOs and is a jitsu blackbelt, adesanya doesn't have a sub, I can't see it tbh
I reckon
Jan via ko
Nunes via sub
Sterling via decision
Islam via being great
Santos via decision

Yep Jan is a high level BJJ practitioner but I envisage is Adesanya landing and being precise throughout 1-3 and then Jan will try and take him down out of frustratiom, which Adesanya will expect and wrap up a choke. Adesanya recently got awarded his purple belt, so this guy is growing his arsenal of weapons.
Where Jan could have success is if he takes Adesanya down early and keeps him there. It will be interesting to see if the size and strength difference is apparent.
Izzy only weighing in at 200 pounds, guessing that will be his weight tomorrow, could easily be a 15 pound weight difference tomorrow
He has plans to go back down to 185 next, so it makes sense not to get heavy.
I'm going:
Thiago
Islam
Aljo
Nunes
Izzy
Islam completely dominated
Weird that Nunes doesn't get the credit and box office following she deserves.
She's too nice and so much better than everyone else you know it's not gunna be close
I had a feeling Jan would get the win but not by decision though. The longer the fight went on should have played into Izzy's favour.

---
As harsh as it sounds she's not american/English enough for the ufc, the biggest ppv draws ever rhonda and conner could be marketed in America, also before rhonda and cyborg nunes was seen as basically feeding a lamb to slaughter, ufc have decided to push her way too late
I think they summed it up best on commentary, it was a non event in the end, not even close to any trouble

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nunes definitely gets the credit but her lack of persona and cross over appeal limit her PPV potential. She isn't very attractive in my opinion and her personality is fairly dull, in terms of grabbing attention and the opposition she faces are usually unknown.
It's just the way it goes unfortunately. I can name plenty of dominant fighters that haven't got the credit or PPV numbers that you would expect from some one of their dominance and ability. The one that usually comes to mind is Demetrious Johnson.
My thoughts on the main card:
Santos vs Rakic
Disappointing fight because both guys didn't take any risks. On a night when the LHW title was being contested, this was a great chance to put themselves into contention but Rakic played it safe from distance whilst Santos was content with playing along.
Islam vs Dober
Complete domination. The grappling was always going to Dober's weakness and Islam might be the best grappler in the division, now that Khabib is not active. I think Islam is probably one or two fights away from fighting one of the top 3 in the division and it will be fascinating to see how he copes.
Sterling vs Yan
Sterling came out of the blocks quickly but Yan was able to weather the early storm and he was well on his way to winning the fight, until he landed that foolish illegal knee and got disqualified. I do feel that disqualifications shouldn't see a title change hands but those are the rules and I am sure they will book the rematch for 2021. I think Yan beats him in that rematch.
Nunes vs Anderson
I thought Anderson's reach and size would cause Nunes some problems but it seems not. The power and speed were too much for Anderson and she was put away with ease. Not sure where Nunes goes from here but I think a Valentina rematch at 135 might be her only legitimate test.
Jan vs Aadesanya
This was a close fight but the two takedowns from Jan secured the victory and it was an impressive one. Adesanya was clearly the more diverse and creative striker but Jan was patient and his power kept Adesanya cautious and alert. Jan surprised me with his takedowns and ability to completely nullify Adesanya on his back and it was clear that the size difference and strength were factors. My respect for Jan has certainly increased and for Adesanya, it's a loss but his stock is still high and I am sure he will go back to middleweight and defend the title again.
Also two further thoughts:
1. Was it just me or did Sterling seem to overplay the knee to a certain extent? I have no compunction that he was dazed and hurt by the knee but he couldn't get up for a while and I have seen fighters getting finished cleanly and still getting up after a few minutes.
2. Nunes vs Henry Cejudo. Is it delusional to say that Nunes would be the favourite in that fight? I feel like she could beat some bantamweights in the mens division.
1. Fk knows it was nasty
2. Yes. It is, she might beat some, but not cejudo
1. The longer it went on maybe - but the ref/Dr should have called it much much earlier imo, as it certainly knocked him out - it was nasty AF. But by the time they did call it I think he was playing for the Dr and paycheck
UFC 260 predictions:
Miocic via submission
Luque via decision
Omalley via TKO
Robertson via sub
A decent card but nothing spectacular. Main event aside of course.
