An escape. Because a one horse league is no challenge.
Would love to see Celtic come down to the premier league and see how they get on. Would be like a Huddersfield in first few seasons, until money kicked in. Then after that.....would the fans be happy to see Celtic midtable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well at least you are clever enough not to go down the road of they wouldn't survive yada yada yada which is what we get from the dimwits who can't get their head around we would be entitled to money and of course could afford better quality. I think we would be slightly above the Huddersfield level because we have season ticket sales above 50K add in the match day revenue and it would give us a marginal advantage over Bournemouth and Huddersfield etc. and then yes mid-table for a while till we bedded in for 5 years or so. After that it is impossible to say. So many variables would determine how high we would go. City got a moneybags owner and it's put them out front cash wise but when you look at their match day revenue like season ticket sales etc, it is nowhere near the top of that particular table. It's impossible to say how high we could go as things would be on a different scale altogether.
Having said all that United are proof that you can have megabucks to spend but if you spend it on average players or worse still have a negative style manager you won't be in the the top 6.

Everton are in that kind of zone in the PL where they are an irrelevance to the big boys and not really a scalp for any of the little teams, not won anything i can remember.
Tierney with all the hype Celtic fans perpetually create around him will go to a bigger club like Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea imo. Though he's risking his long term potential by staying in Scotland another year even imo
He's been average this season so far but as someone said previously he never gets a rest so to be expected at some point.

No he wouldn't, Tierney is a young kid living the dream of playing for the club he supported as a kid. I actually doubt he would have went anywhere even if the club got a figure that led them to strong arm tactics to get him to go. He doesn't seem in a rush to go anywhere and there is plenty of time for him. I doubt the kid is ready to move elsewhere - not ability wise I mean to move away from his home district and mates.

Bigger profile than Van Dijk had at Celtic.
Most of the big 6 have cheap left backs in comparison to other players.
City - Mendy and Delph
Liverpool - Robertson and Moreno
Chelsea - Alonso and Emerson
Spurs - Rose and Davies
Arsenal - Kolasinac and Monreal
United - Shaw and Young
I would love to sit here and just slate Tierney because he's one of them but the reality is he's better than at least one of those LB's at each of those clubs.
He's still vastly over-rated by large portions of the Celtic support who expect he will walk into a Suoerclub as first choice which just will not happen.

Do you think he would get a rest in the PL? A faster and more physical league with a more testing league to go against....
As pointed out, we have lad who has fit in well and gives what we need. A French international at that.....

I don't think he would start nearly every game league and cup plus internationals for about 3 seasons on the trot anyway
The PL more physical than Scotland i watch both and it's like watching little girls play down your way.
Fair play to Digne, bounced back from rejection to play well for Everton for a few games.
Bigger profile than Van Dijk had at Celtic.

Only in Scotland, if he's so good, why has no team made a move for him? He's 21 ffs, not 17.
He's not even the best Scotish LB, I hate saying it but Robertson is better. On his current form, I couldn't see him dislodging any of those LB you mentioned.

I’m not taking about SPL/Scottish rugby. The game is faster, players fitter and stronger and have more skill. That’s why they don’t play in Scotland.
Let’s hope the sell policy of Celtic doesn’t crumble under his tumbling value.

Robertson is better, undoubtedly
The reason for him not leaving is loyalty so far, he's actively not encouraged bids by commiting himself. I think he'll harm hiis own career if he doesnt go next summer. He's at the stage where he needs a fresh challenge to kick on again.

Can’t see him getting into the top six sides squad atm. You talk loyalty, but also the lack of bids can’t help, unless the player and club rejected all the offers flooding in?
Form is temporary class is permanent. I remember some poor performances from VVD particularly in Europe and how did that work out again? We were told we wouldn't get £6m for him and then told he would be a flop at Southampton and get roasted by those top teams. We said all along he was the real deal and now h is arguably one of the very top CB's in the league. Tierney has had a dip and expected after so many games he has played but he is top quality and it will be a top 6 club in England if and when he and the club agree for him to go.
It's not the defence you need to worry about. It's nearly November and we remember Richarlison scored his last goal for Watford in November last year. Better hope he doesn't go in to hibernation for you this winter like he did for them. After all you have shelled out a lot of cash on him and with the Turk unlikely to banging them in for you and Walcott not a prolific scorer of goals you might have some worries at that end of the pitch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither you or I know anything about whether there was many or a lack of bids. We only see what is in the media. There could have been 10 or there could have been none. Or more likely some could have made an initial enquiry rather than a bid and been told he is not for sale, doesn't want to move or possibly given a figure which they decided not to bid at.
There was some stuff in the press about Man u and Spurs but those would be rumours. We don't even know for certain whether there was a proper enquiry from Everton and if there was how far that enquiry went.

I doubt there was. The club was in a mess at the time.
So all this talk of loyalty in posts above are just conjecture. He was playing well, he sent now and no real way of telling if his form will recover.

The best part of that is, he isn’t and won’t be played as a striker for Everton yet. Even in the Leicester game he played wide and deep....never the classic CF/striker role.
If Tosun and Others can’t add to the tally we are in a position to spend to solve that.

You know why ? Because all you can offer is a better wage ..that's it , nothing more
What could Southampton offer Van Dijk, Wanyama and Forster besides better wages?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a moot point because it'll never happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what FFS!! I think you will find the other Everton fan asked our opinion and I gave him mine. Is that aright Einstein.

He may or may not be a clown, but i bet he can spell Israel better than you
As to your substantive point Everton would be a massive step down for him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
LOL, like it was for Naismith?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Those circumstances were entirely diff. from Tierney who is a Celtic fan playing for the club he loves.I would think he would be looking for better than Everton were he to move on
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we had matched the £25m he would have moved.
What about Jelavic and Weir?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No he wouldn't, Tierney is a young kid living the dream of playing for the club he supported as a kid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said, I'm glad we missed out, because his form is shiiit and Digne has been brilliant, so it seems we're both happy.

Both Newcastle and Sunderland have cracking crowds, it didn't stop them from being relegated.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of interest, what makes you think he'll move to a top 6 side, when the likes of Van Dijk didn't?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bigger profile than Van Dijk had at Celtic.

You missed the rest of my comment, i'll assume you agreed he could get in the top 2 LBs at any single top 6 squad since you didn't bother to reply
Robertson is better, undoubtedly
The reason for him not leaving is loyalty so far, he's actively not encouraged bids by commiting himself. I think he'll harm hiis own career if he doesnt go next summer. He's at the stage where he needs a fresh challenge to kick on again.

Surely the Celtic lad is better....he is coming from Celtic. Robertson showed his quality, a very good player and could be a great player.
