Anyone else a little concerned that Nuno might be a little too stubborn?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually,no. I admire him for sticking to his principles in face of criticism from some fans and the press.
He has an unshakable belief in his methods and in his players and if he can actually achieve what he is trying for he will prove himself right all along.
He believes that if the players keep improving bit by bit, eventually they will achieve a standard whereby they can play their system against anyone. I think the key to that is to move the ball quicker and become more fluid. They did it last season and now they have to do it against better teams n this league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we got caught out last season too a few times. Games against Forest and Fulham in particular; where they pressed out midfield and nullified our wing backs. Teams are quickly learning that if they can do that, they stop us playing.

We need to be able to adapt to those situations and at the moment; Nuno doesn't seem to have the anser for it.

No he doesn't Tam but the more I listen to him, the more I become convinced that his idea of a 'plan B' is not a different system or set-up but to simply play his system better.

It was similar with Conte he used to change between the 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 depending on the opponent, reckon Nuno will change it today.

Only problem we had was that he kept playing Bakayoko in the midfield!

I think most of the top managers are stubborn. Ferguson, Guardiola amongst them in terms of having their views on how they want a club run, and how they want a team to play. Nuno though has been too stubborn on our formation and needs to bring in players in Jan that give us something different.

To be fair to him the big difference between the top teams and us is the depth of the squad. Our first 11 are good as they proved in the opening months of the season. When we need to make changes we have the likes of Ruddy, Hause, Vinagre, Saiss, Cavaleiro, Traore and Bonatini and I think all of them represent a big drop in quality compared to the players they replace. So he is limited on what changes he can make at the moment with Gibbs White the only one who could possibly come in and potentially keep his place on a regular basis.

Baffled as to how our most consistent attacking threat the last two seasons Cavaleiro can be a big drop in quality

Liverpool play Man City on the Thursday before their FA Cup game at Molineux so they have written to the fa to ask for the Cup game to be put back ideally until the Monday

I have to agree with Gem on this one regarding Nuno being stubborn. He has a playing style that worked well in the Championship and we all applauded him for it. What some folks are forgetting, is the fact that we have the youngest squad in the Premier league (25.5) and unlike other sides, have players who've never played at this level of football before. Our players will get better as they get more experience and if we can finish in a reasonable position this season, then funds will be made available to get better players in and have strength in depth.

Rome wasn't built in a day and while we continue with our 3-4-3 style of play, it's the players themselves that should be able to overcome other teams trying to stifle us.

Maybe we were all expecting too much this season and I include myself in that category. Fosun have along term plan and just like us getting promoted a year ahead of schedule, given the right amount of funds and better players we can achieve our goal, before the ten year projected goal that Fosun have stated.

Unfortunately, patience is not one of the better attributes of being a Wolves supporter and I believe we should all take a deep breath and just be grateful that we're at last, back in the top flight. Let's not try and run before we can walk.

Up the Wolves and I'l step down from my pedestal.

This is not a style of football that just worked in the Championship, it is one that took us to 7th in the Premier League and still has us in 13th which is a higher position than we have ever finished in this league.

And I don't think people expected too much. Most people had us down for finishing around mid table, and that's still where I think we will finish.

It is ridiculous to say that if the manager chooses a formation then once the game starts its the players problem to make it work not the manager. The reason managers fluctuate between 343, 442, 4231, 352 etc etc is because they are trying to get the best out of their players and get the best results. We have two excellent central midfield players and two very effective wing backs, but when the opposition outnumber those 4 in midfield and close the ball down, they find it very difficult to find any time or space on the ball. The players cant change that, the manager has to.

Looks quick and looks to have good positional sense from those clips. Maybe a little small but similar to Son of Spurs.

Managers do not fluctuate to all those systems, simply because the players themselves will get confused.

Playing 3-4-3 has got us to where we are today and given the right players in the future it will more than likely keep us on track with what Fosun are aiming for. You yourself have mentioned the fact that we have and I quote "two excellent midfielders and two very effective wing backs" Why then, can't they work it out for themselves how to adjust. It's not rocket science. You seem to be suggesting that our talent players cannot think for themselves and play like robots. In recent matches their passing has been atrocious and that's nothing to do with Nuno. We have a wide pitch and should keep the ball out wide and stretch an opponents midfield. We played a lot of fast, counter attacking football last season and hopefully we can regain that type of play in the near future.

How many players have we seen on youtube scoring goals over the years only to fail when they arrive at Molineux. He'll fit in to our 3-4-3 system tho'.

I noticed with interest that Rangers beat Hearts (who were top for a while) away from home the other day.

Rangers overcame Hearts, who played with 5 in midfield as opposed to Rangers only playing 3 in a 4-3-3 formation.

Funny that.

Not sure if understand your point Wolfie.

Even one of nunos analysts told him he needed to change the tactics in game

My point is that you can overcome teams playing with 5 in midfield when you are only playing with 3.

You can make the same point as many times as you like. The facts are that Huddersfield and Cardiff played 5 across the middle closed us down and gave us no space and made our central midfield players and wing backs ineffective. Conversely Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea made no special plans for us, just focused on their own game, and we excelled against all of them. There is a reason we play well against the good teams and struggle against the poor ones. I believe that is one of the main reasons.
