I have mixed feelings about the article. I think we risk going down a road where black players cannot be criticised in the press for any reason for fear of being labelled racist. This has consequences for freedom of speech.
Footballers of all ages and races receive unfair criticism in the press, and I'm sure you could find dozens of articles where white footballers are criticised, perhaps out of jealousy that someone so young is already a millionaire or because their lifestyles aren't particularly honourable.
If there is an agenda in the media where black players receive more criticism than the same player would if they were white then that is wrong. But I can't see it.
As for Sterling, his goalscoring record for City is excellent while his goalscoring record for England is woeful. Alan Shearer was regularly criticised (rightly or wrongly) for not playing as well for England as he did for Newcastle.
Regarding the two contrasting articles about a black and a white player buying a house, they were written at different times and (I think) in different newspapers. I think the agenda of the critical one in The Daily Mail was if anything more out of jealousy at a young man's wealth than racism.
