Our loss form this season

Jose in!

If by the end of the season we fail to achieve a top four finish and a CL spot for next season, which is what I expect now, then all I can see thereafter for the next few years at the very least is further disappointment and regression. Our best players will leave, high quality players will be extremely difficult to recruit, getting back into the CL will be very difficult and a depressing malaise will engulf us. Our finances will be severely compromised. The shiny new stadium will seem to mock us and be a symbol of our constant disappointment.

Our main rivals (Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal) seem to be getting their acts together or at least improving while we are going backwards. We were on the cusp of really establishing ourselves as a consistent top four club but the giddy heights have proven to be too much for our fragile mentality both on the pitch and in the boardroom.

I of course hope I'm wrong and that we somehow end up in the CL places at the end of the season and we can attempt to address our problems in a positive way in the summer but today my optimism has hit a depressing low.

Exactly and that exact position is now proven to be a problem now with Winks picking up silly injuries, Wanyama playing like a Sunday league player and Dier playing like his name.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Don, Spurs have just beaten one of the best teams in Europe in Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate over two games, so suggest there is absolutely not much wrong with the squad, but there is seriously something wrong with a manager that cannot get the best out of them. Just like with Mourinho at United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he just got them to the QF of the CL by beating one of the best teams in Europe 4-0 on aggregate?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yet he cannot pick a team to beat Watford, Wolves, Burnley, Southampton etc. The reason he has got the team to the QFinals is because in general he has picked the strongest side, then he tries to be clever, and changes it all around again like today. His nonsensical rotation is what makes him such a poor manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which managers do you rate Sandy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Winning managers, and there plenty of those about. Problem is most Spurs fans are happy to have a manager who is not a winner. What is happening now is not new, it has been happening for the whole of Pochs time at the club, when push comes to shove he cannot and never will get the team over the line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Any names? Or are you gonna carry on keeping it vague?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I Don't have to give names, I don't get paid to hire and fire managers at Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But you are suggesting we fire the manager so surely you have someone in mind to replace him?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course he doesn't

There are lots of winners out there, Mourinho, Zidane, Wenger, Benetez, Tuchel, Raneiro, all won trophies, all would jump at managing Spurs. Plus young hungry managers like Eddie Howe.

I'd say Eddie Howe, but with all respect to Bournemouth he is doing them justice.
What have we got to lose if it all goes pear shaped and we drop out the top 4 AND the CL... so, erm... how about... Phil Neville?
At least he's just won a 'World Cup' for England

Today's loss has been the most unacceptable loss of the season. I was watching that first half thinking this was going to be one of those routine 3-0 wins or something. How we found ourselves level was bad enough but to lose was absolutely disgraceful and unforgivable.

posted on 10/3/19

Spurtle, they completely folded like a pack of cards mate. Like I said mate, as far as CL goes, we won’t go any further than the quarter finals. We are clearly not good enough mate and certainly not good enough to win the thing. Huge battle on our hands for top 4 and wouldn’t surprise me to see us finish 6th now.

comment by Spurtle (U1608)

Don, and like I said before you can't always relate the league form to CL, because we played Dortmund twice and scored 4 and kept a clean sheet, whereas we conceded 2 to both Saints and Burnley recently. Maybe we are taking the CL more seriously, which is a worry as far as the top 4 goes. We need to make sure we treat both as equally important.

Still a long way to go and it's not like the 3 below us won't drop points to lesser teams either.

The Burnley one was worse for me. That was the game where we had an opportunity to put ourselves in the mix. Kane back, and off the back of ten days off. And we didn’t even show up. Today was facking rubbish but at least we can say that the goal that won it was a screamer.

Burnley performance was awful too but I never felt in that match that we were as on top of the opposition as we were today. And seeing the replay of our defending for their first goal was totally shambolic. Maybe the worst defending for any goal this season from players like Vert and Rose who should know better.

Spurtle, we fall short when it matters all the time mate, be it CL or the league. Juventus last season prime example, totally bottled it after looking comfortably the better side at Wembley with 1 foot in the next round. Went all Spursy and let Juve back in it through 2 mistakes. The same will happen again because this current crop of players don’t have the mentality or quality mate to progress any further or see the job through. They are just not good enough mate it’s oretty damn clear now. They are great at pressure and great when there is nothing truly riding on the outcome, but the moment pressure hits, they fold. We are going out the next round of CL mate, I am pretty certain of it

posted on 10/3/19

Hence the desperate need for reinforcements, as I said last summer, these group of players are an excellent side, but not good enough to win trophies. They lack the real quality other teams posess to win stuff.

I can understand why you'd think that Don. I'm more optimistic about our CL hopes. I do believe we are good enough and capable of winning it. Teams that have done worse than us in the league have won it before - Liverpool won it in 05 when they finished 5th in the league with 58 points (2 less than we have now) and Chelsea in 2012 when they finished 6th with 64 points. I know it looks like we won't be good enough from our league form but I wouldn't be surprised if the players have it in their minds that CL is the one they're thinking about. Look how we were 2 seasons ago; rubbish in the CL and went out in the group stage losing twice at home. In the league we never lost once at home and got 86 points.

Regardless of how we do in the league, the players will put everything into trying to win the CL and I believe we can go far in it.

Admire your optimism mate but not a chance. Looking forward to seeing who we get, but fully prepared for us not to progress any further in the completion.

Spurs have the players to win the CL, but they don't have the bottle or the manager to do so. Season is done now. Bottling players and a totally inept manager have combined to ruin what was a really promising season at aroundabout the Xmas mark.

Clear lack of investment

Our quality players are getting into the older age bracket

Wing backs aren’t good enough

Too much rotation and resting players

Squad depth is incredibly weak

Saying that if we get a favourable draw in the CL we have a good chance of gettting semis or final.

Son is a very streaky player, if not for Kane, Spurs would not have scored a goal in the past four games, he has scored all the goals.

Some Spurs fans never learn do they. It honestly is the hope that kills you. We are serial losers. Honestly, supporting Spurs is a chore at times and the constant let downs that we experience are all too common. It's boring, the same cycle of shet. Do well up til it actually matters and then watch all our hopes get crushed.

I hate Spurs at moment.

What has happened to US since Kane has come back? We haven't won a league game since he did, whereas our previous 3 without him we did.

Could this be key to why we're underperforming? I mean I love Kane and he's even in good form but why has that meant we've stopped winning? Son is obviously less effective now as a result. Or is it coincidental and it's just the fixtures since Kane came back are tougher?
