He can complain about this marginal issue all he wants, but to suggest the authorities don't take it seriously is pathetic and simply not true. You cannot punish a club and its entire fan base based on the actions of a minority of fans. It doesn't matter how many stewards you have, or how many bans you issue as a club, if there are racist elements within your fan base or society then it's virtually impossible for clubs to prevent.

-------------------------

sorry are you speaking for every abused black player and answering for them its a marginal issue? society should be that if you hear or see idiots shouting racist abuse at a game to a player the so called majority who were always told are at games should easily enough be able to grab them and chuck them out the ground
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Any rational person knows it's not that simple.

BTW, I can't feel too sorry for multi-millionaire Danny Rose, what he has been subjected to has been extremely unpleasant but I am more worried about the working poor than him. If he is looking to retire then he should just get on with it and retire now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
What does his wealth have to do with it?

ny racial abuse nowadays in this country is dealt with swiftly and the idiots “a very small minority” are punished severely.
.................................................................................

The sort of thinking that is very scary to me. If you genuinely think it is a small minority, then you need to go out there. This country hides racism better than any other country I know- it is done very covertly to make idiots like you think it is only a " small minority" right now, it is factual evidence black children are 168x's more likely to be permanently excluded from school than a white British girl. Wake up and smell the coffee
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would like to see the evidence, if possible?

I don't personally see racism within the country, maybe it's that I don't associate myself with racist people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Im assuming you're a white male? That's why you don't see it as much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe that's why, I have very close family and friends who are not though and it isn't something I've much experience with.

I have seen people written off in interviews because they spoke broken English (that includes white males from Europe too mind), that's probably the closest thing. If you can't communicate with clients though it's a genuine issue.

Actually, the major problem I have experience is gender discrimination in the workplace. From unfair salaries, lack of job opportunities through to unfair maternity processes in my personal experience that's a bigger issue than the colour of your skin in the UK.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not 'white' and most my friends aren't either. All of them and me myself can easily say we have experienced racism before.

I think the gender discrimination is much less now. Even in my office I get 'racial banter' thrown about at me, and nothing I can do but laugh it off

"Fifa fined the Spanish fa £44k for racist chanting against England players last November.

That’s a total joke especially as it’s not the first time it’s happened."

Whilst I agree, that's no reason for Rose to "turn his back on football".

This isn't a football problem, this is a problem with society and culture.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes but by working as a footballer he's exposed to it more, I'd say.

Which makes it perfectly reasonable for him to be pleased when his career is done and he can do something more private.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually, if you feel footballers are exposed to it more, then surely that's a good thing?

1) There's no shortage of black footballers in footballs major leagues
2) Racism is actually few and far between in football, especially in the UK.

It's never okay for somebody to be subjected to abuse just because of their skin colour. But in what is generally considered a safe and privileged position, it could be worse.

Somebody selfish as Danny Rose wouldn't swap his multi millions to avoid these jeers once every couple of years for example. I'd like to think it's just football fans getting giddy.

Liverpool fans recently sang over a minutes silence for a Utd legend. Utd fans sang back about the "the sun being right".

This is a similar, idiot mentality imo.

Just because he wouldn't swap his career at present doesn't mean he can't feel down and upset about it.

From what I take is it’s not the football it’s the authority’s running the game not taking it seriously that’s making him feel this way.

As a white person I can’t relate to it as it’s never happened to me but I can have empathy and realise that it must be a horrible thing to go through personally and just as bad to see other professionals going through it too.

Authorities need to start coming down hard imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, from that take on it I agree.

As I said I do feel UEFA & FIFA don't do enough in terms of punishment.

I also think it's not their place to tackle these issues in these countries where politicians don't even care.

It's a difficult argument to be had tbh, as I said I think nations should come together, with FIFA and come to some sort of agreement on how to handle this.

You get caught with weed in California, nobody cares. Do it in Singapore and you're going to jail for a long time. The world is a strange place and we can't police the whole plant, we have our own issues.

The authorities are a joke. I am really pleased the likes of Rose and Sterling are standing up to this abuse.

Imo the punishments should be something like,

1st offence- Big fine. X% of the annual revenue of the country

2nd offence-Points deduction.

3rd offence-Kicked out of the competition and 1 year ban from playing

I am basing this on international football.

Pointless fines and the odd game behind closed doors does fack all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That isn't exactly what I meant, he is entitled to feel upset and speak out, as I said i feel he simply focused on the wrong points. Sterling communicates much better.

But my main point was, footballers are generally safe in a stadium, a place where fans tend to get heat up and the crowd mentality takes over.

I am NOT saying it's okay though.

I agree with his points, I just think he goes about it badly.

There's no need to say he wants to retire and turn his back on football and that he spends more on a night out than nations are fined. That makes him look odious.

He should have had a think about this and maybe put out a statement, maybe they should put out a statement collectively, white and black English players included.

If that was me playing and my team mate was being abused, I'd walk off the pitch in protest.

People are confusing how big the problem is with how many people are responsible for racism.

In the UK at least, it's a very small minority, but still a huge problem. I'm talking about actual racial abuse here by the way, not institutional / underlying racism.

We have youth workers out in communities telling young kids not to stab each other... we're not talking about decent people here.

You and I know it's completely unacceptable to stab or racially abuse someone, but if you've grown up in an environment in which that's the norm then you have to be taught.

My parents took on a foster child who they recently adopted after many years. When she first came to live with us she didn't realise you had to pay for things in shops, because her junkie parents had used her and her siblings to shoplift from the moment they were born. My parents were called in to her school every single week because she kept beating up other kids.

It took a long time living with us before she started to understand what was and wasn't acceptable. She's currently studying to be a social worker so that she can help kids with a similar background.

You can't get through to people like that with arbitrary punishments.

exhibit a on why rose should speak up against morons like this, people moan that rich people are out of touch with reality so shouldn't comment on things like this as if they and everyone else listen to the poorer people in the country
