Unlucky Sandy, it’ll be very difficult to overhaul Ajax in Amsterdam imo but it’s certainly doable and you guys carry a real threat.

An early goal and you’ll be in the driving seat, good luck

I`m expecting another defeat to Bournemouth, they`ll be fresh and at home they are a threat.

Lack of squad depth, injuries and a never ending supply of bad luck really have ruined things at the most important time.

First time I have seen ajax and I was not impressed at all. We were very poor but our team was very weak.

I would expect Barca or Liverpool to run riot against them if they go through

Sensible comment. Someone saw the same game I saw. We gave them the confidence they had, handed it to them on a plate.

Sandy, I don't believe your lead-off comment. What's wrong with you these days?
You've gone from "Spurs will win everything" to "Spurs may loose 4th spot".

Today was a game of two halves.
God only knows what Pochettino was thinking at the start. For once it seems he abandoned his usual attacking strategy and decided to play defence - with Trippier FGS!!

Eriksen summed it up very well in a post match interview .....

"First half we were ball watching and standing around for the first 20 minutes, and letting them play their game, and they deserved to win. Second half we went after them and ran at them, knocked them off their game and showed that we can win"

With Son back, and Sissoko match fit, and hopefully Vertonghen recovered from his concussion, and Foyth starting instead of Trippier, I think we stand a good chance of getting a couple of goals against Ajax in Amsterdam. And keeping a clean sheet.

We can win this tie.

I am lost for words on Trippier. Another disgraceful performance. Foyth or KWP have to finish the season.

I dont know why the defeatist talk we are still in this.

Yes they looked good for 30 minutes or so whilst we seemed clueless but I dont think they are special.

I take us to score out there I really do and then its anybodies game.

I really would question Poch and his tactics tonight two dreadful passes by Sanchez and Trippier where we YET AGAIN try to play short in and around our box should have cost us and we got lucky. They played around Wanyama like he was not there.

They key is how many players we can get back for the 2nd leg. If we field another team with a CM player that cannot pass we are out for sure but I think if Poch is clever there is every chance of Son giving us an away goal and if we go 1-0 up anything an happen.

Next time Poch lets actually pick a midfield that gets somewhere near the ball please rather than wait for the 2nd half to be effective.

posted on 1/5/19

I agree that putting Trippier on the pitch is a big mistake.
As for Wanyama, well Sissoko was not match fit and really should not have been played at all today - Pochettino had his hand forced by events and decided to take the risk.
I don't understand why Danny Rose was taken off - was he tired?
Anyways, I think we have a good chance in Amsterdam - they are a good side, but they can be beat. See Eriksen's match comments in post above.

I cant see why we are defeatist its only 1-0 did Ajax not lose at home to a very average Real Madrid side?

Then of course they won away so its hardly the impossible task

Grandspur, of course it is not impossible, but last night was not exactly a one off, this form has pretty well been the norm for the past three months or so, maybe even longer. If Kane was available I would have some hope, but pinning all our hopes on Son, who has been poor last two or three matches is not something I think will get us through this tie.

10 per cent chance at best of progressing, expecting something like a 2-0 defeat second leg, they are still a far better side than us, despite us upping our game a bit second half last night.

Ajax were good last night but I'm confident we will beat then next week. For the love of god drop Llorente his painful to watch.

Sandy, I saw it a little differently to you. Yes, they are a decent team and good to watch, but despite your stuttering start and some poor individual performances, I thought Spurs put them under some pressure last night. Son to return for Mora, who for me was a liability, will give you the momentum to turn this around.

Well we didn't just hand it to them on a plate, they were better than us all over the pitch.

We were only outclassed when we showed them far too much respect (with the system). After we went to 4 at the back we matched them

Lucas was bad yesterday although him slipping all over the place on that rubbish pitch we’ve put down didn’t help.

Although him and son both start next week for me

Ajax are a technical team, you give players like that time and space to play then it won’t be pretty. Spurs did that in the first half.

Second half you got about them and looked far far better. Final ball was lacking but you showed they can be outplayed. Sissoko all game, possibly Winks or Dier in for Wanyama plus Son back - Spurs are very much still in this. All you need is a 2-1 win!

Ajax are probably favourites now but only just. I still fancy Spurs to do it actually.

Very surprised that people are criticising Moura, I think he was good and so did many people I overheard having conversations on the walk from the stadium to Northumberland Park.

I'm afraid Sandy has lost his mojo. Eriksen gave a post match interview just after coming off the pitch and summed the game up very well:

"First half we were ball watching and standing around for the first 20 minutes, and letting them play their game, and they deserved to win. Second half we went after them and ran at them, knocked them off their game and showed that we can win"

That was exactly the match I saw! They ran us off the pitch first 20 minutes and looked like score 3 or 4 goals. Then the team changed strategy and played a bit better.
Second half was different. Pochettino told us to run at them and knock them off the ball. Sissoko, who should not have been played at all, did that admirably! And they started to pick up yellow cards.
We might have gotten a goal back. Of course they are still a threat when they get going, especialy with Trippier at RB, and almost got a second, which would have been match over.

Amsterdam is going to be a different match, I guarantee it!
With Son back, and Sissoko match fit, and hopefully Vertonghen recovered from his concussion, and Foyth starting instead of Trippier, we stand a good chance of getting a couple of goals against Ajax in Amsterdam. And keeping a clean sheet.

We can win this tie. They are good, but ....they are not that good.

Must have looked different in the stadium as all I saw was him sliding on his butt or running down blind ally’s.

Not that I can really blame him as he had no one to work off yesterday with the statue up top with him.
