I haven't a clue why we would let him go if he is fit again

"But I really am struggling with these mixed emotions!!"

Yes!

As a human being i couldnt be happier for him, however if i'm brutally honest i feel robbed ... he could've gone anywhere but he choose our noisy neighbours!

We've paid millions in transfer fee, wages and fees for Dr Steadman... City get him for free!

I did have horrible thoughts about him pulling hamstring or groin last night but then i feel harsh!

Mixed emotions indeed!

Come on, he doesn't support us, so th choice was, Man City, a team in CL or a bottom half team. Seriously you can't expect him to choose someone like WBA over City.

Owen Hargreaves Performance/Goal
by redstevie86! (U10610) 22 September 2011Comment on this Article Great goal from Hargo, sounds like a great performance too from him. I really really want to be so happy for him. But it felt so strange to see him smash in a 25 yarder in a blue shirt
-------------------------------

You know I felt every bit the same

I was just left thinking 17 million and three years nursing him back to health and being incredibly patient, he then scores a cracker for City

It just felt wrong on every level

agree with that mat definitely, but it still hurts a little watching him rocket one into the top corner for them!!

To be fair to him he wanted to stay, we said no, so he's free to do what he wants, in an ideal world he would have gone to a big club like Villa or Spurs but City was the best offer on the table and he'll do well out of the deal and hopefully get some game time

Hargo apparantly said afterwards that it was 'essential' that he left United

i found it strange if he did in fact say that

If he felt that, why did he not leave a year or two earlier?

I would love to know the true reasons for his departure. I can't believe we would nurse him back to health for 3 years only to release him when he's back fit.

Made no sense to me at all considering how good we know he can be

Yes, I can completely understand how that would hurt. It was a great strike and my fears that we'd taken on a crock were reduced massively. He played for an hour and I have to say, as soon as he was subbed, we looked very unlikely to score again. I think he had as much of the ball as the entire Birmingham team!

Looks like we may have struck lucky, like you guys did with Mikey Owen. Feels good to have a decent player for virtually nothing, doesn't it?

It sort of happened the other way round, albeit to a lesser extent.
Tony Coton was City's best goalkeeper for many a year, got injured and then fit again, having got himself fit (i think it was 9 months) failed to get back into the team, probably kept out by some dreadful alternative. His contract ended and he went to United, played some 1st team games, and then became part of the coaching team.

I was delighted for him that he got fit and carried on playing, but gutted when he moved across the city. So i understand your mixed emotions.

That was what my impression was but he has since stated it was essential that he left United

I realise he could hardly say 'I wish I could have stayed at United' now given the shirt he wears but did he need to say anything?

Agree mate similar to the michael owen deal. Is there something about the name "owen"? if i was a prem manager i would be scouting the free transfer list for ANYBODY with "owen" in their name!

I think he could have had a bust up with Fergie over his injuries. I remember Fergie stating last season once that he thought that Hargos injuries "were in his head" after a failed comeback. Maybe Fergie lost patience with his constant set backs and thats why they both thought he had to leave.
Hope he doesn't become a McGrath MkII. (For Fergie and Uniteds sake, not Hargo's sake).

UnitedRedMacca- I taught Rooney and berbatov the overhead kick (U2024)

I wasn't aware he'd said anything like that after the transfer. If he did say it was essential he left then that's pretty disrespectful considering all the work and money you guys put in to getting him fit. Maybe it's the press taking him out of context - perhaps he said he had to leave United because they weren't willing to offer him anything and it's been deliberately misinterpreted in order to sell papers - and all the more poignant considering he came to us.

I did hear that he said he'd play for United for free as well - dunno how true that is, but I suspect it wasn't because I'm sure Fergie would've bitten his hand off after the money spent on rebuilding him.

I don't know mate, all I know is I take the press with a pinch of salt.

Hi very words were it was essential to get a change of scenery

I don't get why he needed to say that

Maybe it has been taken out of context who knows. It isn't like the media to do it I guess

Boris I haven't seen the game but I haveseen the goal

How was his overall performance? I I have read it waslike watching the Hargo of old - an all action performance until he ran out of steam

Exagerated? Or was he really that good?

I'd feel a whole lot worse about Hargo in a city shirt if we weren't top of the league, outscoring everyone and generally playing great football, with the likes of Ando and Cleverley grabbing the CM roles.

Hargreaves was man of the match pushed closely by Tevez, and possibly Savic.

He rarely mis-placed a pass, he seemed to have a good understanding with the other players. He through himself into a couple of tackles, seemingly not concerned about getting injured, we definetley looked better going forward with him pulling the strings, than we did after he went off.

He didn't seem overly tired prior to being substituted. A very impressive debut, for somebody i did not give much hope too.

Overstating it to say he was the Hargo of old, it was against a poor Brum team, but he was good, and formed a good partnership with young Razak who was also good. Great to have alternatives for Yaya who's having a mare at the moment but is never taken off!!

Wonder if Mancini feels he's got one over on SAF?
Agree, i too have mixed feelings on this one.

Macca, it wasn't the most testing of games but he looked confident and reasonably fit.

Anyone else think that having spent 3 years paying Hargreaves to be injured, it might have been in Uniteds best interests financially/insuance wise NOT to have him back playing now?

This is of course pure speculation and without foundation but it has crossed my mind, I'm pretty sure United (as all clubs are) were insured up to the eyeballs on OH and maybe his return would have created a problem with regards to claims etc.

or is this a ridiculous suggestion?
