Ange Postecoglou made it clear to Harry Kane that he plans to shape a #thfc side that produces exciting, attacking football and would like him to be part of it. | @SkySportsNews
Oh SkySports news saying something positive about Kane. The nay sayers though...
Kyle #Walker has agreed to join @FCBayern from @ManCity: details. @NathGissing
Great move for him
Anyone else heard mutterings that the hold up in the Van De Ven deal is because Liverpool have entered the race having received funds from a potential Fabinho sale? If this is true, then feck Levy. If we lose out on him, it's the same bullshiiiiiiit bartering that has opened the door to Liverpool.
On an even more depressing note, Spurs are now pressing ahead with a deal for Lenglet. You couldn't make it up. We score as many goals as those in the top four last year but concede as many as those in the drop zone. It's perfectly clear where our weaknesses are. We shouldn't be anywhere near Lenglet to be honest. I know exactly why this is happening too. We can't shift the defenders we have on our books because they're unwilling to take a pay cut to move on, which then makes it impossible to replace them without blowing a hole in the wage bill.
Signing Lenglet just keeps the cycle going. He'll be another we'll need to shift in a couple of years. That's the problem with high wages. If they're on long contracts and big money, they're impossible to get rid.

There are fears at #thfc that Liverpool could hijack their move for Micky van de Ven. | @NizaarKinsella
Their new Dof know all about him. Plus they have dutch players there but we would give more game time.

Yeah it was covered in here yday
Most of the Lenglet rumours are from Spain. Barca desperate to get rid.
I'm perfectly happy for us to sign Lenglet as an alternative option, as long he's not first choice. He did 'ok' last season in what was a mess of a team with poor leadership. I think he'd be alright as an option.
But if he's our new first choice signing instead of VDV or Tapsoba then I'm burning WHL to the ground.
Lenglet has got no pace, not good enough to defend in a two or even a high line.

Interesting article.
Also,
1.4 and 1.6 tackles per 90 minutes seems pretty low or is that just me?!
I don't see how you can be 'close', as Fab said 3 days ago, and not have it done by now unless there's a problem. The only problem that could have occurred given his price tag was reachable, is if another club has come in.
I'm just staggered that we've signed 3 new players and none of them sort out the shiiiiitest defence in the league. Absolutely staggering. It's classic Levy lowballing and delaying. Despite the fact that Ange is happy to work with what's given him, much like Poch was, it still means ultimately Conte was right, if a bit stupid to make it public.
Ultimately, the owners lack the ambition to win. I've come to realisation now that no matter who is in charge, the ceiling is measured by the owners' ambition and lack thereof. The bare minimum is a VDV/Tapsoba and one other or preferably both. My instincts tell me VDV is the one. His stats aren't as good but I think he has the higher ceiling.

Comparisons are good but VDV is much younger than Tapsoba and has the potential to be much better in terms of stats going forward.
Another thing to consider, correct me if I am wrong, is haven't both been playing in a three man defence with wing backs?
It's such a hard one to call on the CB front because many years ago the same enthusiasm we're seeing now for VDV and Tapsoba was on display when we signed Sanchez. There's absolutely no guarantee on any transfer. We might see plenty of videos of VDV running the length of the pitch to defend his goal or another showing a last ditch tackle but whilst that shows drive and determination, it also shows a tendency to vacate his position or going to ground too often. There's ways of spinning everything. The reason why I'd always regard Rio Ferdinand as one of the best defenders in the league is because he was rarely caught out, rarely out of position and hardly ever went to ground, much in the same way Virgil VD does now. It doesn't make for the best show reel as it doesn't show someone heroically throwing their body on the line but it's what makes the best defenders and it's the reason why the last two will always beat John Terry for me. Same for older players like Paul McGrath. The very best don't look spectacular.

Depends what your role is as CB, someone like Konsa will be closer to 0.6 tackles p90 for example.
VVD had 0.78 tackles p90 last season. Alderweireld never averaged more than 1.45 tackles p90 in his time at Spurs (since they recorded the stat).
With Romero being the aggressive one this makes sense

also important to remember this stat doesn't include interceptions, blocks, clearances etc. When you think about it you don't tend to see CB's making a huge amount of tackles during a game.
