Yup looks like we’ve been pipped to Fati by Brighton.

WLB says the move is off now as well lol
One minute it is 99% us then 2 mins later Brighton come in. This is mental.
The moment we couldn’t negotiate an obligation or buy option, I’m guessing Levy pulled out, which to be honest, is sensible. Think about it, if he storms it, he’ll cost a fortune and what we did to Southampton with Toby would have happens to us by a bigger club. Might seem like we’ve been bullied by Brighton but I very much doubt it. We’ve pulled out is my guess.

I’m not that fussed about fati but this transfer window has been a disgrace.
After 12 months of hearing his name being sung in our stadium to get out he puts this sort of window together.
We are a banter club. No more no less
The point is that it is soo fa cking amateurish and unambitious to be trying to sort all this sh1 t out with 24 hours to go
Twenty percent ticket price increase was decided in seconds…

Absolutely agree. Levy treats the fans with total and utter disdain.
And still people like Sandy reserve their judgement for manager tactics and not the feckin joker in charge of the club. Like we’ve always said, the prospects will never change at this club whilst he’s in charge.

Because it's clearly sarky and all I asked was whether anyone had missed my comment about the Brighton hijacking. I'm not daft, mate. Just saying "No" is loaded with "yeah, we saw it but we totally ignored it". I know what you were doing.
Really odd one with the Fati deal as it sounded like it was all but done, but fair play to brighton, that's a big signing for them and shows that they're really establishing themselves as a significant player these days. It may well be as Fridge says above, that we couldn't get any option to buy and so weren't as keen, or maybe he was only ever a backup to Johnson....or maybe Brighton just beat us to the punch.
Either way I'm not devastated. Let's judge the window after it closes. But at the moment there's lots left to do to call it a successful window.

Yep, I'm almost certain it's gone that way. It's a no win situation. Okay, he comes in and lights up the Prem. Then what? He'll have the pick of the very biggest clubs in the league. He comes in and performs okay to badly? We don't want to buy him anyway. There's very little scope for a position where he ends up signing for us permanently under the current deal. Same for Brighton. They're dreaming if they think they can keep hold of him if he does well. I don't care whether they're in Europe or not. If he's still there a year from now, it's because he's underwhelmed.
Apparently Brighton offered Fati more game time, including Europe. The loan conditions are the same. For me I’m not disappointed - he’s injury prone and without an obligation to buy it’s just a stop gap move when we are supposedly doing a long term rebuild.
I don’t hate the BJ deal; he’s homegrown, 22, made 11 goal contributions in his first PL season, plus a few more in the cups, and was registered as the fastest forward in the league last season - he has a decent ceiling IMO. And if he’s the man Ange and the data bods have identified then the board should just make it happen, not all this “it’ll go down to the last minute” bollox. It shows as ever that we are not a serious club, we’ll only acquire targets if they can be had in some sort of ‘deal’. If not we get the ‘we tried’ bollox, meanwhile our fans are being stuffed for 20% hikes on what we’re already among the most expensive tickets in Europe. Club is a shambles and a disgrace.
I mean fair play if they're paying his wages. That's big for them.
For them it makes more sense. European adventure - strength in depth. This signing is designed in the full knowledge that Brighton don't expect to be in Europe again next year. This isn't them pushing on. It's them signing a player for a year only because they doubt they'll need him next season when they're out of Europe. If anything it smacks of a lack of ambition. Genuinely.
I don't see how it's a lack of ambition at all. You're getting a very talented player who's frankly finished long term. If he was a nailed in starter in a position they're desperate to fill I'd agree but surely he's just rotation for Mitoma
Went from Brennan Johnson to Fati pretty quickly. No doubt he was Ange's number 1 target.

It's a lack of ambition because they're building a squad with a short-term purpose. The reason they're fine with Fati and we're not is because he's been bought, not to develop them further, but to deepen a squad for the coming season and the coming season alone. Real ambition is to spend that Caceido money on a couple of top class permanent signings to really go for it. I'm not saying what they're doing isn't sensible. In fact it's right out of the Levy playbook. Nothing creates debt like wild ambition. This is a cautious move by a club that doesn't expect to need squad depth next year. Like I say, financially a very smart move because you're not committing to a five year deal for a European campaign that will, in all likelihood, end by next year. It's smart, but it's not ambitious. Their fans won't realise that though. That's why it's so smart. All they see is a one-time generational talent walk through their doors.
This is a cautious move by a club that doesn't expect to need squad depth next year.

That's the bit that doesn't ring right with me. There's no way they've got to where they are thinking like that. I think you've kind of said it in your post but at the same time are still conflating ambition with spending money. Spending 100m on a player isn't more ambitious than signing them on a free. You can achieve your ambitions in very different ways.
We're agreeing aside from that I think. This isn't a big miss for Spurs at all.
I know he's a crock, but facking hell, letting another club take Fati in order to focus on Brennan facking Johnson instead...
And for that matter, Barca letting Fati go on loan just so they can bring in Joao facking Felix?!

Yes, I don’t get the logic of declaring it an unambitious move for Brighton. They’ve lost some quality from their squad, they need extra bodies for Europe and to give them a chance of getting back into Europe again via the league. If he moves on so be it, as long as he’s helped them achieve their goals - plus it’s a bit of excitement for their fans and raises the profile (and therefore revenue potential) of the club. Brighton know what they are doing, more so than Spurs that’s for sure.
As mentioned though I also don’t see it as a huge miss for us. Whereas Brighton are trying to consolidate their position, we are trying to rebuild, and so a loan with no buy option isn’t really gonna help us with that.
Interesting though that as soon as Fati became available to us we jumped for him when all reports had said BJ was Anges man. Does that mean BJ isn’t really Ange’s man, or Levy told Ange they’d rather get a loan than shell out 50% of the Kane money on a purchase, so you need to get on the Zoom call to this lad and his agent?
