Thoughts on signing back Eriksen?
Initially felt that he was playing within himself for his last year with us, to protect his but his performances for Inter suggest he could just be finished. When he joined us aged 21 he’d already been a regular for Ajax for 3 years, playing something like 120 games. He played virtually every game for us, never injured and never rested either due to us having no other creative outlet. He’s 29 in Feb, but could be that in footballing years he’s older due to the career he’s had. Whether that’s true or not, he’s deffo past his peak and as I’ve said before I’m really not keen on bringing in guys on their way down - that includes Jose and Bale. Eriksen is another. Would much rather we find the next Eriksen that bring back the old one. To think we were a gnats chuff away from getting Grealish, makes me sick.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, it does worry me to go back for him, and Inter are so keen to send him out! I have seen players just have their form fizzle out almost permanently and it could be his case.
It will be a huge gamble by us to go for him with the chances of him showing a very good form, very slim. He was given every chance to shine in Inter, though not always from the start, but he has failed to convince anyone there that he deserves a chance.
I wouldn't personally, but I could see Mourinho going for it. Player in his "peak years" at least on paper, who plays in a role Mourinho uses in his fixed 4231, with plenty of Prem experience... thing is, Eriksen at his best should've absolutely torn Serie A to shreds, and he's been cack. I think that says all you need to know. Like you say it could be that he's started his peak early due to playing so much non-stop football since he was a kid.

Play? Golf you mean?
José Mourinho wants #thfc to sign Christian Eriksen this month but the player's salary is slowing negotiations. [Sky Italy]
Weird that Mourinho would want him. Doesn't seem to fit what we need at all.
The fact Jose won't play Ndombele deep as well. Yeah, I love him as a player but he stagnated with us and wanted a new challenge so I think a fresh start would be best for him, Inter wasn't the right fit.
I hear that Conte never wanted him. Shame really.
If we can get him for a cut price then fack it why not.
He’s another goal threat and his work off the ball is very good, just depends how much he wants it, he wouldn’t get away with his form towards the end of the his stay with Jose.
Someone who at his worst would hit double figures for goals & assists that even our best current midfielders can’t do.
I’d welcome him back in a heartbeat
I'd like to see him back but don't think its right for him, also means our squad is extra bloated and think Ndombele wouldn't play then
Yeah he benches ether Ndombele or Lo Celso. That's if we can even register him without selling a foreign? He won't be match fit either.
Squad is bloated with quite a few not good enough players though.
We don’t have anyone who is creative enough bar Kane.
Amazon doc showed how much levy & Mourinho liked and wanted him to stay.
GLC is fast becoming my biggest disappointment.
No I agree with all of that, its just that 'never go back' feel that makes me think it might not work.
The persistent use of a double pivot and two genuine wingers doesn't really get the best out of Eriksen. Would like him off drifting in from the wing with Dele behind Kane and Ndombele deep but this is never happening.
We need to move on from Eriksen. We won't get the same player in his peak back. If he wanted to get away from Spurs in the first place, I just can't see how he'd ever be motivated to get back to that level with us, especially after the knock in confidence that the Inter spell will have given him, after his form suffering for about a year with us before that.

His current worst is far worse than that. I love eriksen as most know but he has been found wanting for form for over a year now. He’s not worth it currently - I don’t think a creative attacking midfielder is what we need either.

I think it’s exactly what we need. We have 4 creative players in our squad
Ndombele is okay but should be playing deeper
GLC is made of glass and really not shown enough
Lamela needs taking out back and shot
Dele is finished under Jose
Eriksen still has the talent. His last full season with us was his most productive and even last season in just a few appearances his stats was decent.
I’d definitely give it a go especially if the loan is a option
I don’t agree I think we have all the creativity in the team Jose wants currently. He’s happy to get it from fullbacks, a midfielder and Kane as the ultimate playmaker. I think there is only one position for Eriksen and that would be fighting Ndombele or Lo Celso.
I think the priority is that 6 beside him.
We have one creative player in Ndombele ( who should be next to Højbjerg anyway) & Kane that’s it.
Anyway I’d welcome him back with open arms ( or any other decent creative player )
We don’t have one creative player though we have a few but there is only one ‘creative midfielder’ role in Jose’s system.
