How would the police have handled intruders?

Would it ha they have restrained and removed them?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is not the police.

The police would warn the woman and then take action.

No one is allowed to put their hands on you. It is assault
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not true at all
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What is not true?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The sweeping statement that putting your hand on someone is assault. Depends on the circumstance

It's funny that people are ok with this
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You ok with protestors gate crashing a conference?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then you should be ok with people in the conference to retaliate then
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well Im not

What is he supposed to do? The woman could be there to carry out an attack. Or not, but you are not going to wait to find out.
...

I think you’re safe from green peace tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did everyone in the room realised that though, that she was from green peace?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes

To be fair, he did grab her wrist in a manner that suggested that he thought she was armed. She was carrying something and it looked to me like he was alarmed that it was a knife. Once he had a hold of her and time to focus he seemed to be less physical with her. I'd be inclined to believe his explanation that he thought she was armed and don't think that he did anything wrong.

I think it's absolutely logical that some people would have a completely different view on this if it weren't a Tory politician.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Most people reactions to this are pathetic and absolutely linked to the fact it's a Tory.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s a reason why this country is extremely hostile to Tories, people that come on here and try act shocked by it should take a visit here and look at the damage they’ve done to our society.

If you watch the video you'll see she walks past six people at Mark Field's table before he does anything.

If he were truly concerned for their safety surely he'd have said/done something before grabbing her? I'd have much more sympathy with him, if he truly feared for their safety, had he ran towards her and threw himself on her to immobilise her.

I don't buy the 'he was afraid' narrative. IMO he was angry and he thought he could look the big man by doing what he did.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree, but none of that means she should be suspended.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I work in the civil service. If there were protesters in my building and I did that to them then I'd get suspended and most probably lose my job.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't believe you can possibly say that as a statement of fact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think I can. It says I have to comply with the law. I'm pretty certain assault is against the law.

No, the other argument is whether what he did was worthy of suspension.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd argue your conclusion of argument I raised answers your argument

You're not going to think that he was justified but should have been suspended
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And you'd be wrong to argue that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you dont think that your views on whether he was justified in grabbing her around the neck would also decide whether or not you think he should be suspended?

Can't believe the comments on here defending the woman.

Fack off with her. In this day and age where terrorism is everywhere and people are bombed, attached and driven over left right and centre, the guy handled the situation well.

There was no security at the time, said the article, a women storms into the room who has no business there.

What is he supposed to do? The woman could be there to carry out an attack. Or not, but you are not going to wait to find out.

Fine he is suspended during an investigation, but lets not act all like snowflakes here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think anyone has defended the woman. You do know it is possible to think she is in the wrong but think his reaction was OTT right?

That's the problem with anything slightly political these days, people think there are only binary answers to anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, its just my opinion. Nothing binary to it. I dont have to agree with both sides or be against both sides or whatever. I think people calling for his head need to have a look in the mirror.

Met an EDL bloke on the train a few weeks back. Clearly a facking moron and I didn't agree with any of his ideology but he had absolutely no intention of anything violent.

Don't make the mistake of generalising left = good and right = bad.

And whoever is bringing up Jo Cox to defend this bloke is an absolute disgrace to her memory. She was attacked by an armed terrorist, this woman had a phone in her hand. That’s it. Wtf was she gonna do? Deck him over the head with it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
does he know it is a phone? if i was surprised by some nutjob coming at me with something silver in her hand i would sure as hell not wait patiently to see what it was. Politicians are attacked all the time, there was a german politican who was killed a few weeks ago. Lots of nutjobs out there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Not surprised at all. Watch the full video
2) Wasn't going at him. She was walking around the side just like the other lady.

Fact is he got a bit miffed his pretentious black tie event got disturbed so he thought I sort this silly woman out.

Mind reader now?
