Think he’s worth signing for the right price. Reckon he’d be much better next season now he’s settled in.
Leave Madrid to sort their own problems out. Theyre demanding huge amounts of money for average players so they can afford to go and plunder the best players in the world and try and put more daylight between themselves and everyone else.
Why on earth spend a huge chunk of the money we received for Hazard on a player that's not exceptional in any position and do RM a favour getting him off their books.
Not for me in a million years thanks!
I think it’s worth investing in him, a talented young player who has potential and while versatile didn’t really suit Sarri’s system. He’d be better in a midfield two I think
If he's not good enough for RM, why should he be good enough for us ?. A huge amount of money for an average player .

Wise words!
Ask yourself one question.
If it were not for the transfer ban would you advocate going out and giving £40m for him?
If the answer is no, then you have the answer.
If you say yes - then there's nothing I can do top help you!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, he's a decent player who excels at nothing, therefore he's just a blocking player who will prevent the development of a younger player.
Tbh I also hope like Brummie everyone refuses to buy Madrids players at the prices they want

Apart from I don't think he represents value for money Blarms, it's exactly that as well - we're giving money to the parasites from Madrid to go around Europe and pat £100/200m for the worlds best players!
We have an option to loan for a season I think I read...I'd take that option up myself
Could be a much better player under a different manager, he never quite found his role for Sarri. I like the fact he wants the move, always nice having players who want to play for your club as a fan.
He's one of those players where the decision on pursuing him should be up to the manager, because depending who it is the same role could be fulfilled by Jorginho next season. Lets say it's Frank for argument's sake, and lets say he opts to retain his style from Derby (a sort of mini-gegenpress), he'll only need one playmaker in the middle, so if the reported 40-45mil for him is correct that'll be a combined 100mil worth of investment competing for oone position? Not really worth it even if the investment itself isn't terrible business.
Ultimately he strikes me as one of those players who'd be a big fish in a small pond at a level not too far down from our own (e.g. at Everton he'd probably be phenomenal), but someone who'll always be a squad/manager dependent player at the top.

If true, then I would be inclined to keep him for another year. He’s technically a very good player, could develop into a very good player under a new manager. Also, he stepped up his game towards the end of the season.
we should keep kovacic, hes a very good player, i think hindered by sarri, hes a combatative skillful player and could be pretty valuable
We should keep him if only to bolster our depleted stocks...he's decent enough and will probably flourish under Lamps

Kovacic is a weird one. I’m apathetic towards whether we sign him or not. He’s got all the qualities to be a very good player, yet there’s this sense that he’s destined to play within his limits.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair summary that
If it was not for our current predicament he would be nowhere near good enough. Had a very 4/5 out of 10 season imo. Like you say though, his performance in the second half of the europa league was great. But let's not forget his first half was torrid.
Did he even grab a goal this season? I mean there are lots of "tidy" players in football, so i'm not fussed either way.

mons why do you and others think he was hindered by sarri? His stats and performances were near enough replicas over his whole career.

Hindered wouldn't be the right word, just didn't fit. IMO anyway.
He seems like that brand of playmaker whose comfortable doing all his work in the middle third of the pitch, that Xavi/Modric type. But echoing what Sideshow said those appear to be his limits. Sarri expected degrees of attacking movement from his CM's that Kovacic couldn't really produce.
Devil I didnt actually think he was that bad going forward, until he hit the box...or hit the ball lol. His movement was good, iniesta-esc, but just no end product at all.

It’s been mentioned before, but the role which would get the best out of him is playing in a midfield two for a counter-attacking team. I’m surprised Atletico aren’t looking at him with Rodrigo likely to leave as he would suit them to a tee.
---------------------------------------------------
Yeah I can see that point. He's got the defensive responsibility to hack the 442, we always looked more secure down the left when he was there rather than Barkley.
If you think about it that's actually an advocating argument to keep him. We might lack in other areas to play two man midfield systems, but in Kante we've got the perfect two man midfield player
With Frank hopefully on board in the next few days he's going to have a decision to make pretty quickly

Is he? I thought playing staff decisions were all decided by the hierarchy?

For me it depends very much on the price.
Can only sort of echo what others have said above. For me he showed signs right at the start of the season to what he is about before having a pretty nondescript season.
However, I do feel he started to look better right at the very end of the season.
Loan would be the right move, and I wouldnt be disappointed if we got him for 35million (I would guess RM will/would ask 60 for him)
