Root just bat in his favourite position.
Proper opener with Burns.
Denly got a chance here to save his spot in the side.
--------------
who exactly is a proper opener option? its all good and well saying that but no one really sticks out in cc cricket
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jennings
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well according to Kevin Petersen he "cannot play" test cricket.
We might be seeing Leach in his role as night watchmsn if were lucky.

These two to get us to about 50-2. Denly to get out after playing well for about 30 odd(why he cant stay in the side)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah similar to Vince, nice 20s and 30s
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think considering him being younger than denly and having a good county record too, should have had more of a run in the side was withdrawn too quickly imo
Bit strange as well because compared to the torrid performances of other players Vince had an ok series in the last ashes.
What about Ballance ?
He started his test career well before it went south. How’s he been doing at county level ?
Also where is Malan. He’s scored an ashes hundred before
Root needs to be taken out of this best player in the world debate. Not in the same class as Smith, Kohli or Kane.
It makes you think why they needed to change the side so often. Stick with it and it can gel and improve.

Certainly not in test cricket these days.
Other than Kohli though I would take Root next in my ODI team though.
Vince, Malan, Ballance, Lyth, Jennings, Robson etc... All good County players who just aren't up to tests and who should not be tried again.
Gotta keep working through the option, pick some solid players with good technique and temperament. Get some solid bats in because while you can have 2/3 dashers, you can't have a whole team of them.
1. Burns
2. Sibley
3. Hildreth
4. Root
5. Northeast
6. Stokes
7. Foakes
8. Woakes/Curran
9. Archer
10. Broad
11. Leach
I know that many changes at once won't happen, and three Test rookies would be a risk, but... It's just a much more specialised and solid batting lineup on paper.
Ballance always scores tons of runs at County level but his technical deficiencies are just as glaring as Jennings or Robson's were. Once the opposition figures him out he gets out every time.
I wouldn't be averse to Malan coming back in at 3, to be fair. I quite liked him.

Much better team, players that deserve to be in the side based on the hard work in CC. Agree with the batting order too, Root should stick to 4

This.
Pretty 20s and 30s, move him on as well.
Sacrificing your best batsman for him
Thing is, people will understandably say you can't make that many changed from one test to the next... But the nature of cricket is that if you phase new players in one at a time, it'll be a year before you have the team you actually want, by which point half the players are out of form again and you have to start over.
Sometimes you just have to take the plunge I think.
Spurs concede a goal. England lose a wicket
Fack off sport
Denly seems to go just when you think he might make a score.
England are really struggling. 3 edges in that last over.
Ohhh noo Burns gone now who is going to play a match saving innings reminise of KP at Oval in 2005.
Literally said this would happen around midday
