It only took Lukaku to throw a little gissy fit and he got out.
-----------------------
That and the fact that Ole did want him and that we had been negotiating his exit for a few weeks. His hissy fit did absolutely nothing. He was always leaving.
As for Pogba, no-one has made a serious offer for him and Real don't have the cash to make it happen this summer. He is here for another year, for better or worse.

Wow, there are some seriously negative fans on these boards.
I am pretty happy with the business we have done and preseason in general. 3 good signings and we have gotten rid of Lukaku for a good price and look like also getting rid of Rojo. I suspect that Darmian will also leave before the European windows closes.
Our youngsters have done well in preseason and I am optimistic that a few of them will make their mark this season.
We aren't going to win the league, so I am just going to sit back and enjoy the football this season and hope that we see the emergence of a group of youngsters that can form the nucleus of our team for years to come.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How dare you come here with rational thoughts?
Who do you think you are?
We are doomed!
Relegation is a certainty
We aint finishing top 4.
We might play a little better than last season but missing out on champions league again will hamper us again in the transfer market.
Both Arsenal and Spurs finished above us last season and have strengthened better than us. They will finish above us.

They might have finished above us, but that was thanks to Jose. The table from when Ole took over shows that we finished above them both - Arsenal by 5 points and Spurs by 8 points. With a full preseason under their belts, the players should be better equipped to deal with Ole's tactics, rather than running out of steam as they did towards the end of last season.
Your optimistic
Im a realist. A midfield of Pogba Mata Matic McTom and Pereira isnt going to be good enough to sustain a challenge to the top 4.
Thats the harsh reality.

It's not reality, it is your opinion.
And I'm not optimistic, it is just you are pessimistic. I think that it is really difficult to say where the squad is at due to questions over how well the kids will do. I'm personally happy to see how tehy get on in the knowledge that the long term pay off is huge if a few of them manage to establish themselves.
As for the midfield, Liverpool don't have what you would consider great options, but they did well last season. What Ole needs to do is build a team and system. We need McT to continue to progress and Fred to improve. If that happens then we have a decent chance for top 4. Which I think is a realistic target if we are to blood some of these kids.
How many "ifs" in your comment.
Liverpools midfield is significantly better than ours. Experienced, industrious and unified.
Plus they have 3 world class strikers ahead.
We are so far behind it is a joke.
We dont even know our best 3 midfield or best 3 attackers.
We’re gonna come 3rd. You watch...
Is there a thread for predicting positions so we can laugh at people in May?

There are always going to be ifs. We could have bought a midfielder in, but he would only improve the team if he fit into the system. We could have signed Dybala, but we would only have made an impact if he was properly motivated rather than just in it for the money. There is no guarantee with any signing, as there isn't with promoting youth. None of us can see the future.

That's not how things work. You could argue Ole got the cliched "new manager bump" after which your form fell to pieces just when it looked like you had the teams above you in your sights. At a stage, it looked like you'd finish 3rd and Chelsea would finish 6th. The opposite happened. Your performance at Goodison under Ole was probably worse than anything I saw you play under Jose.

First of all the new manager bump is a bit of a myth.
Secondly, that is how it works. You assess a manager's performance over the time that he was in charge - you don't include the period that he wasn't in charge. That would be stupid.
Thirdly, I don't think that it is unfair to suggest that a team that ran less than most in the PL under Jose, was not able to maintain performance levels playing a more energetic system under a new manager. Our players were not fit last season. It was a regular topic of conversation on our board last season. It seems that they have enjoyed a more thorough preseason in terms of fitness conditioning under Ole than under Jose, so there is a good chance that the squad will now be able to maintain performance levels under Ole, rather than running out of steam.

Nobody said you should judge Ole by periods when he wasn't in charge. That seems a deliberate misunderstanding of my point. And my point is that you even as you can't judge the manager by the time of his predecessor, you can't equally extrapolate over the course of a longer period, how he would have performed based on his shorter time in charge. Considering your horrid run of form in the season run-in, you might have been no worse off concluding the season under Mourinho.
All of it is of course a lot of conjecture and that is all I was pointing out: that the conjecture doesn't seem a reasonable one in the circumstances.
A lot of words without really making a point. The fact is that we finished 3rd in the table on points accrued after Ole joined. And that was with a team of players that weren't fit enough to play in his system for a sustained period of time.
The fact is that you qualified for the CL under Mourinho - who has also accomplished a hell of a lot in his career. How far back do you want to go to determine what you could have done under a manager, since your horrid run of form under the manager you're lauding is irrelevant to the fact he made a great start?
Relegation is a certainty
+++
it really isnt. Some of us can actually remember what that really feels like.
But mid table obscurity, could be.
Now as a Man United supporter, is that good enough?

WTF are you talking about? I haven't said that the bad finish to the season was irrelevant. Even with that bad run he still finished above Arsenal and Spurs in the period he was in charge. And that was with a team that wasn't fit enough and ran out of steam.
What Jose has done in previous seasons is completely irrelevant.
