Ironic cheers are a form of abuse though. You really think that won't affect him mentally?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
a) As a singular fan I do pay a percentage. However as a base we pay it in entirety. Or do you think sponsors give millions to players so that they can sell their goods to an empty stadium? Xhaka petulance has been evident for 4 years now. You don't get much of agreement between 60k dispirit people in a stadium until its so obvious that even a blind man can see it.
b) If cheering or booing affects him that much he should not have become a professional footballer. It goes with the territory as do millions of pounds for kicking a ball around the park for 90 mins a week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I like the lettering format. I'll join in:
a) You missed out a lot of other sources of income for a football club. It isn't just fans in the ground and sponsors. If you think the fans in the ground cover your player's wages in their entirety then you don't have much of a grasp on modern football. Or are you saying the income from fans only goes to paying Xhaka's wages.
b) Footballers are human. Just because they earn a good wage or are a public figure does not mean that they should be open to abuse from everyday people. You can question their performances, but targeted public abuse and humiliation from a group will have an effect on anyone mentally. People don't have the right to go and abuse someone and then expect an apology if they react and the fact Arsenal fans think that is acceptable; is pretty pathetic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok tell me one that is not connected to fans! We are not a oil backed club by an oligarch/sheikh to hide their poor behaviour.
Footballers are human. Just because they earn a good wage or are a public figure does not mean that they should be open to abuse from everyday people.
--------------------------------------
Fans are not everyday people. They are fanatics. However they are also stakeholders of the club. And as such booing should mean far more to the player. I don't personally partake because I don't see how it will help the player perform. However I will defend to the hilt of anyone who does. It is the only way fans can let a player know their displeasure with his performances. Players live in a bubble. This not like it used to be 30 years ago when players could mingle with the fans and sometimes even drink in the same pub. (in fact you could even meet the likes of Pires and Vieira in cafes in Hampstead high street)
Xhaka was not abused as you are making out. There were a few ironic cheers and it was his reaction that made it far worse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Broadcasting is the largest revenue stream for any club. Without it, you wouldn't pay the players wages. If the fans that 'ironically cheered' stopped going, I'm pretty sure Arsenal would keep going, the fans would be replaced and the broadcasting money would continue.
Never said fans can't boo. Just that they shouldn't get upset if the player reacts or expect an apology to come their way.
If you ironic cheer or patronise anyone in real life you can expect them to react to it, particularly if you combine that with comments on social media. Footballers aren't much different and it is stupid to expect otherwise. You continue to think he is in a bubble though, immune to mental issues and all this is limited to a few 'ironic cheers' though.

To put this into perspective Xhaka was not actually having a bad game. The ironic cheers were a culmination of the stress and frustration felt by a lot of Arsenal fans.He just happened to be the spark which lit the fuse.
Judged on his performances this season one cannot make a case for him being an automatic first team starter let alone Captain. This was very poor judgement from Emery.
The real problem is Emery, our performances and the risk of losing either Laca or Auba or both by their not signing new contracts. We badly need a new manager to inject some life into this club and to give the fans something to smile about. If we were playing like Leicester or Chelsea no one would care about Xhaka right now.,

Broadcasting revenue is soley dependant on viewing figures. That just expands the fanbase beyond those in the stadium. If you are then judging their reaction to the incident then Xhaka better stay from social media which has had a worse reaction than those season ticket holding fans.
Indeed players have had a poor reaction in the past, none that I remember of my 35+ years of attending games at Arsenal. However most have apologised immediately at other clubs, usually after the game. Ex-pros have said as much recently. The petulant behaviour and refusing to apologise only reflects the pedestal that these players now think they occupy. Its almost as if Xhaka thinks he is bigger than the club. We have spent 2 years trying to sell Ozil who has been a far better contributor, well known and never ever reacted to the fans, but have had no takers. I doubt anyone would want Xhaka either especially after this incident. Opposing coaches, even refs have often talked about the petulant behaviour of Arsenal players. Xhaka is the captain of the underlying problems that have continued from the end of Wenger reign.

Talk about pot, kettle, black
Tamwolf, you're correct about the insulting. Players should have to put up with no more than critique of their performance. In this case though, that's exactly what Xhaka got. His reaction started near the middle of the pitch, where no one individual insult would have been audible. He'd have heard nothing but a cacophony of noise which was audibly negative. I think you're wrong on the reaction though. There is (IMO) a distinct caviat to players responding to negativity.
As a player, if you've played decently, but fans mad at manager boo you. Then by all means tell said fans to get stuffed (even manager call em out about it post match too). Every right to stand up to the unwarranted. But if you're playing poorly, ergo negativity about your performance is justified. Then shut the hell up and be humble at least. You DON'T insult the fans. Because you already done that when you picked up ya 120k that week, for costing those fan's team a result.
Xhaka has been rubbish thus far and personally directly responsible for losses. Therefore he IS directly culpable so should man up and face failings. No love lost here for our more moronic, drowning in negativity, Wenger baby fans. But on this one it is the player and only the player whose actions were just plain wrong. Sad thing here is that he probably could have gotten all/most fans back onside by simply being humble, apologising to fans for poor performances and committing to being better. They'd still think he was a crap player. But people appreciate that sort of thing (fans especially actually) and it'd have bought him some time. Instead now the fans think he's crap AND a total ass hole to boot.
Helps us out anyway, he's off in Jan. Shame it had to be like this though. Would have been great if he could have sorted it out and us gotten to see 5 or 6 screamer "KO anyone in it's path" shots a season. They're football's coolest thing. Or one of 'em anyway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why the link to a poorly constructed article?
Spurs have been performing at a far higher level than their financial capacity usually allows. The strain appears to be taking over finally.
Arsenal are under performing having invested huge amounts (although not under performing as badly as United). Before that they were usually on par with their spending.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two London sides with state of the art stadia...both in the CL in recent years....neither have won it...or the Prem ever in Spurs case and over a decade in arsenals...
Both have high class players in good positions....
Somethings wrong
Xhaka should not apologise. The fans should. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Embarrassed.
We abuse him and then cry when he answers back.
You simply do not boo your own players. There is a reason we have a poor reputation as a fanbase.
Robbie should kick the likes of DT and Troopz out of his channel as they are using his platform to promote themselves. They arent real arsenal fans. If they were then they wouldn't use the channel to abuse players, rant and embarrass the fans and club.
We as fans have been right surfers over this. There've been idiots on his wife's instagram page giving it large, so it's not just a few boos on the pitch. Imagine trying your genuine best every game only to get that reaction. I don't think he's good enough either, but there's limits to how one should react to it. And don't give me the "paying customer" argument, or that the fans are the boss. We're allowed our opinions and to express them, but if my boss treated us all like that, someone would pretty quickly do a Gus Poyet. Try clicking your fingers at a bar man and see if you get served, let alone ironically cheering when they get around to you in a busy bar and then booing them if they take too long for your fancy.
Having said that, as club captain you can't do that. Imagine Tony Adams throwing the shirt to the ground after telling the fans to eff off. Unthinkable. Xhaka has an awful lot to apologise for and, if he doesn't, he needs selling in January.

Difference between criticising players and the manager on a forum than booing our own players at the emirates or being abusive at them and their family
Giroulski.
Drop enough money behind the bar mate and the staff'll put up with whatever you tell em to. Don't be a tool about it though or they'll spit in ya drinks
My comments were purely in regard to the booing off the pitch. The insta stuff and the like is bang out of order. Come match day, you step on that pitch and don't represent. The fans who paid to see you have the right to show you their discontent. To say they can't is effectively saying "So what if ya paid a fortune. Ya get what ya given so shut up and be happy about it." That's rude. Both the player and the manager have brought the fact they need telling by the fans upon themselves. Xhaka for failing to improve in years (Not like Gooners didn't give him a tonne of time). And Emery for actually being dumb enough to name a player the fans already had no faith in as his captain. I actually think the booing was more for Emery anyway. Fans wanted it made clear Xhaka is the wrong choice for them.
All that said, not quite as irritated will Xhaka's response, now you've said about social media. Hate the stuff mostly myself and don't use it, so I forget about ye ole troll. I still think he'd have done better to walk off head down then post match, do an interview, apologising for being poor, promising to do better. Then telling fans straight, "you wanna slate me go ahead but leave my family alone." Trolls would still be trolls but the fans who are just mad he's being rubbish, would find both understanding in and respect for, him doing that.
Sherrif.
One team has good "upstairs" organisation but their new SOA stadium cut the money off quite some time ago. Team required further investment for short term goal of winning major honours. Levy sacrificed it for long term investment of super stadium.
The other, well stadium ain't SOA anymore but it's all paid for. Their problem is that where the lot mentioned above have good "upstairs" this lot got a PT Barnum subsidiary. Run by back room cash grabber, his ringmaster kid and some Spanish performing seal they brought with 'em.

Why the link to a poorly constructed article?
Spurs have been performing at a far higher level than their financial capacity usually allows. The strain appears to be taking over finally.
Arsenal are under performing having invested huge amounts (although not under performing as badly as United). Before that they were usually on par with their spending.

Two London sides with state of the art stadia...both in the CL in recent years....neither have won it...or the Prem ever in Spurs case and over a decade in arsenals...
Both have high class players in good positions....

Castor calling the fan base toxic...

Modern football fans are entitled pathetic brats. They remind me of 3 year old children, whining and crying 'cos they can't get what they want - NOW! First it was all Ozils fault, then Emery's,now Xhaka..Try having some patience and direct your boos to players who are not trying,NOT players who clearly love the club but are off form.

Last week he was supporting Emery big time. One poor result and it’s like he’s hated Emery as manager for months
He’s beyond fickle
