His old self? This is Alonso..he has a couple of 6/10 games and people start gassing that he’s in good form because he’s not cataclysmic.

It was a tidy performance, but I don't believe Guehi played at a higher level than Tomori.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
TBH I don't think our defence were tested by Yoonited tonight. They were gifted a penalty and freekick by Alonso and Pedro respectively and other than that did little to put us under pressure in our own penalty area.
On that basis, while acknowledging that Guehi and James were comfortable, I don't feel I learned anything about them tonight.
I'm sure they'll be tested by better teams as the season progresses!
Oh yeah - and Alonso was a liability again!
Game that reflected United's struggles more than anything to do with us.
Close to full strength vs. a weakened team already filled with inexperienced youngsters at full strength and still conceded a sloppy goal + could only score from set plays. They're really in trouble.
As Brummie said Guehi and Zouma didn't have much to do for most of the game.
Pulisic and Gilmour were for most of the game.
Bats was hit and miss.
James got better in the 2nd half. Cho also looked better on the left but was poor for most of the game.
Credit to United and OGS who got his tactics spot on.

Stop repeating this comment ffs. No one rates Alonso.
Learning curve & character building for the lot of them, especially the likes of Gilmour & Guehi.
Who I never would have expected will make two Carabao starts (one against United) and several matchday squad appearances between them this early in the season (these moments were worth them staying at the club).
Our most decorated player in Pedro can't even get a look-in.
Testament to faith current management have in youth (and will continue to pay dividends)
Guehi our man of the match yesterday.
Alonso has started 10 matches in-a-row and in the most demanding position, due to Emerson's unavailability.
Very taxing schedule, cut him some slack.

He kind of passed me by last night..it wasn't until the 2nd half that I remembered he was playing...in saying that, this could be a good thing...fitted seamlessly into the side, didn't fack up - so good game overall
As for fackin Alonso....don't get me started
his count of backward passes in the first five minutes...was 6, & as for that clumsy shat for the pen....really...!
The best player for us was Billy Gilmour, but overall a disjointed display by the team.
too harsh on the team today, alot of chelsea fans are like toddlers, one poor result and everyone is rubbish and overrated
The fact of the matter is there was nothing between the two sides, they set up like newcastle did and came to rely on penalties and a wonder strike.
In the first half we were very slow ,the second however we were much better and we got the goal.
Billy gilmur was infact very tidy in possession and worked his arris off all night, Reece James i thought was very good defensively and offered 3 or 4 sublime crosses into the box, Guehi looked solid as a rock made no errors.
If these young lads can mix it against a full strength united side and limit them to a soft penalty and in need of a wonder goal to win a game they came to defend in then i think that there are far more positives for us, beat watford at the weekend and ill is well again
The negative reaction to our performance from some Chelsea fans has confused me. I know everyone's on a high atm but lets not forget many integral components of our first team squad (let alone the second string) are entering their first full PL seasons this year, and United were close to full strength yesterday. We had no right winning that game on merit.
Guys like James, Gilmour & CHO will have games like that, it's the price paid for investing in young players no matter how good they are - they will fade in & out of matches for various reasons occasionally. It's a character building process.

Yeah I thought that....honestly
Re negativity on the loss...I couldn't care less about this comp really...if we'd won then fine...i'd rather we saw off Watford on saturday, & ideally Alonso doesn't play...that's my only negative
Yeah as soon as he lost the ball you just knew he was gunna do something stupid seeing James get in behind him.
I feel for Alonso. He's been OK playing in a position it should be clearly established by now he's not cut out for at our level. If Sarri had of utilized Emerson more last year I think fans would be more receptive to him as a decent backup LB (which he is).

Sarri installed Emerson as first choice left back last season - not sure what you are saying there Devil.
And although it is always disappointing to lose a game - if we're not going to win the competition it actually may be beneficial to be knocked out early rather than late, as it can cause a fixture pile up (as happened last year). I know it's nice to give the youngsters some game time - but the later we go into a tournament the less likely they are to play anyway. Let's see how we react to the loss at the weekend.

Eventually yes, but that prolonged spell before he began favoring Emerson really exposed Alonso's weaknesses as a LB and he's been a bit of a pariah since, not his fault he lacks fundamental qualities to play in a specific position consistently.
