You can keep your VAR, though I have just seen Liverpool benefit from it, ref ruled handball incorrectly. Still takes to long and benefits the defence too much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the second season here in Spain with VAR and generally, it has been very well received.
It takes too long in UK, not because of VAR, it is because the grounds in UK do not seem to supply the info that the fans need to analyse the incident.
And the belief that it benefits the defence too much is just baloney. Many goals where the ref or the lino has deemed an offside or offence, goals have been given; and vice-versa.
It is there to correct obvious errors, which surely, can only be a good thing.
Check the Wolves goal today, Brighton yesterday, we are talking millimetres, how is that NOT befitting the defence.
I've not seen the incidents.
Was it millimetres offside or millimetres onside?
If it was millimetres offside, then it is offside, no arguments, it is offside. Millimetres or yards, it IS offside.
The same goes for onside, millimetres or yards, it is not offside.
VAR is a more accurate way of deciding, that's all.
Wow, Dave, Sheff U goal ruled out for offside by millimetres...
Can’t agree with that, the game is about entertainment, we are seeing brilliant goals ruled out, when we are drawing lines across a pitch, a defender will always lean away from goal when defending, whereas a forward will lean forwards, that is the human physique. Graham Souness made the best observation I have heard, if any part of the body a forward can score with is ONSIDE, the goal should stand. The game us played by humans not computers, the decisions should be made accordingly, VAR in the premiership is simply too rigid.
Check out Pukki’s ‘goal’ for Norwich yesterday and tell me that is NOT disadvantaging the forward.
Totally think VAR is ruining the game and the debate that makes football so entertaining
Fir the ref to be overruled by a machine because a shoelace was offside she’s a complete mockery of the game IMO and take the enjoyment out of it
The sooner we rethink how VAR should be used the better
But being offside by a millimetre or not is not down to VAR. that’s the offside law. You don’t need to get rid of VAR to change the offside law.
But what I think fails to be highlighted is that there are goals given one side by a millimetre that previously would have been ruled out. VAR is not more likely to rule out goals than it is to rule in goals. It just seems that way cause of the coverage. Also teams stop when the flag goes up. When actually I bet the flag was wrong a lot of the time. If they played and scored then the goal would be ruled onside.
VAR has ruled OUT more goals than it has helped to award, imo it is spoiling the game.
VAR is accurately applying the laws. It’s the law that needs to change?
VAR is correcting decisions. So if it rules out more than it rules in that’s cause of the ref’s decisions.
Surely ‘level’ should be counted as ‘onside’, you should not be offside because you are leaning forward. Strangely enough VAR is not being used to check pushing in the back, ask Andy Carroll, or for the most part shirt pulling or WWE style grappling, particularly at set plays. As a supporter we are sat around for far too long wondering what is being checked, the whole process needs re evaluating, or rescinding for now.

But Reddave you are arguing the offside law again. That’s not VAR’s fault. VAR is just working out as best it can, whether a player is offside when the ball is played. It’s what you do with that info that’s the issue. VAR has also stopped plenty of goals that clearly shouldn’t have stood. So there is a positive to that.
Maybe the offside rule should be changed to state that if any part of the attackers body is onside (level with or behind defender) then it’s a goal. Then VAR would be working fine and surely no one would have a problem?
