The Welsh Xavi (U15412)

Is that actually a fact? Not saying you're wrong, just interested to know.

I believe this is a couple of years old now but I saw this on twitter from a BBC article

Essentially Anthony Taylor has reffed 12 United games and 11 City games whilst the next highest is Kevin Friend with 7 for Bristol

Do you honestly believe Maguire's explanation ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I honestly believe the official looked at it and decided it wasn't violent conduct.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well it clearly was. Three officials out there as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In your opinion. I think it's debatable.

As I say, people need to understand that just because they've concluded something doesn't mean that is the only acceptable interpretation.

And let's be honest here, the VAR official has a better understanding of the laws than you.

But Friend referees across divisions, so why would we have reffed more Bristol games?

Taylor is regarded as one of the top officials and so gets given more games for the top sides.

He kicked out at him in a fit of pique. Could have been potentially very bad for the player concerned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As I say, you need to understand that someone can watch that incident and not deem it to be violent conduct within the laws.

That's true but if you look at the link it shows the other top refs haven't reffed their respective sides.

Clattenburg, Moss and Oliver are all from Sunderland or Newcastle but have reffed just 1 game from either side between them, Mike Riley is from Liverpool but has reffed just 3 Everton or Liverpool games and none since 2006.

Just a bit weird really that in comparison Taylor has so many Manchester based games.

The Welsh Xavi (U15412)

So is the suggestion that he's being given more games for United and City so that he can help them along?

as a neutral with not track record of wumming on here, i don't think it was a red card

I thought Son deserved a red card against Chelsea when he kicked out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

but I don't think Maguire's was a red last night
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm biased of course, but I agree.

If you watch the Son incident, he clear pushes his foot into Rudiger. It must raise by several inches - it's an upward stamp motion.

I'm just not convinced Maguire did that. I think he straightened his leg, but that is about it and I can see why it's not deemed as violent.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what is your explanation then ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

My explanation is that the referee didn't deem it to be violent conduct.

Have you actually looked up what that means?

As a slightly related point, did you know that it's possible to ever so gently kick another player and not be sent off for violent conduct?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Played centre half at a decent level actually - think I could have played higher but ruptured my cruciate early on and it limited me a bit.

Care to explain what you base that on?

Cal Neva (U11544)

I think he straightened his leg and I think he knew what he was doing... whether it was to protect himself or as an act of aggression, we'll never know.

But even if you decide he meant it, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is violent conduct.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry he clearly knew what he was doing which was lashing out. Only he knew if he meant to hurt him but it was clearly dangerous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not trying to be rude, but I suggest you actually read about what constitutes violent conduct.

Well, you could try adding to it with something that links it to violent conduct, as defined in the laws.

The fact that you believe it was dangerous is largely irrelevant.

Could have dropped his leg...didn't, & actually extended it...pre mediated

VAR should have seen it as that...failed to act
