In 100 years, a lot of what we say and do will be considered abhorrent probably.

I reckon at some point in the future people will look back horrified at our farming practices and slaughter of animals.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agree with this entirely. And rightly so to be fair.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep agree with this too.

Doesn't stop me eating meat though unfortunately
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've cut down massively and I don't eat meat in products or places where it's obvious that the quality will be poor.

Pathetic how the public has to be protected about where meat comes from. Taking their kids to see the farmyard animals on the weekend and then tucking into a chicken that spent it's life in a factory the next day. Hypocrites.

I'm not sure that's true at all. Certainly not normal. In fact America (or parts of it) is a great example of how it wasn't normal to think those things Churchill said which were pretty extreme.

I think America is about the worst example if you're looking to prove that racism wasn't normalised back then.

There were sundown towns as late as the 60s ffs!

To actually kill masses of human beings on an industrial scale is so mind boggling to me.

Dunno. I think the abolition of slavery and people like Washington are a hood example of progressiveness and leaders not being huge massive racists.

I can see how prejudice starts and I can see why people are sucked into believing that certain races / religions are detrimental to society. It's ridiculous, but I can see how it happens.

But how do you get from there to thinking that the best thing for your country is to exterminate an entire race?

Unfathomable to any sane person imo.

I've cut down a lot and only eat mat a few times a week. Still partial to a burger though or a meat feast pizza.

6 million Jews gassed or starved to death and the only lesson we’ve taken from it is to throw the word ‘N@zi’ at others during a heated political debate.

But by that logic, you, who called out churchill, I could say...ending the war against the oppression of european and african people are examples of progressiveness...not countries that had the biggest slave trade of modern times...or something to that effect.

The thing is we as a species have evolved to eat meat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There will be alternatives in the future. They are already able to grow meat in a lab, there is a 3D printer that can print flesh, you have products like Quorn etc.

People being horrified by farming practices and animal slaughter doesn't necessarily mean people won't eat meat.

People like Hitler emerge and convince people that all societies ills are down to a particular race or grouping. You can see echoes of it with Muslims in Western societies being treated. It often happens at times of crises.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
look at what’s happening in India as an example

Brilliant documentary.

I actually visited Auschwitz in 2006 and have never seen anything like it.
No birds singing in the trees or anything.
We have all seen the documentaries with the train going under the building with the windows up top. You can actually go up there and get a full overview of the camp.

Its astounding just how big the place is.

What you got to understand is , in Germany at the time it was all about how cruel you were the more sadistic you were the higher you rose through the ranks, action squads were made up of teachers, students, civil servants, etc , shocking when you think about it

Yep you could but that doesn't take away from Washington (who was actually a slaver for many years) not regarding people of colour as subhuman (which Churchill did) a whole 100 years earlier.
