Does anyone remember this much commotion when swine flu came about? And that killed between 600,000-1m people. This thing has only killed 3000 odd so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Social media is far more prevalent these days though.
Things spread on there well... a bit like a virus. The more people share the more people believe (are infected).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also nobody bothers looking into the facts.
People were killing dogs because they read an article saying dogs could be carriers. Which has been ridiculed by people who actually know what they're talking about.
It's a joke.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I won't pretent to be an oracle about it but as long as travel isn't banned then I'm pretty certain things aren't that bad. If they do ban travel then I'll worry a bit more then.

I'm due to go to Gran Canaria end of June. Hoping it'll blow over by then. If the Gov don't tell me I can't go then I'm going!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get travel insurance 😉
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Already have! Not throwing away my well deserved two weeks in the sun without a fight!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
2 weeks? Bit long for somewhere like that unless you really love the pool/beach boredomI can’t do beach holidays unless I’m surfing. Just too boring.
Anyway, go dude, no point giving it up for effectively flu...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Euros will be on, there's quite good nightlife there ,and I'll go on a bus every other day to see the island. Plus, any spare time I have can be used arguing on here!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fair play. Will have all blown over by then.

The Calima will blow it away from there I hope...

It’s infectious but it’s not as dangerous as people are making out. I think eventually it will be accepted as a reality that most will get it. Some will get ill, some show no symptoms, some get mildly sick and some die or get very ill.

Not going to panic until someone who is not old and vulnerable dies from it in the UK. Hopefully that person is not me

Authorities run doomsday scenarios often to have a worst case idea of what is possible but then the media get hold of a 1 in 5 will become infected storyline which of course is completely false.
Wuhan was the unprepared epicenter of the virus, a city jammed with 8.5 million people, a place nowhere near as prepared as say the US or UK but yet has had a total of 80,000 cases and now declining.
That is 1 case for every 106 people.......quite a long way from the 1 in 5 number feckin morons are peeing their pants over

No, the opposite. In China (and Wuhan in particular) people are far more willing to listen to authority and the police there are far more likely to be able to use force to make people stay indoors. China is more prepared to stop this kind of thing spreading than the west because in a totalitarian state you can smash a sledgehammer down on the populace and get a virus to stop spreading without worrying about how people will react
Very different scenario here where so many people seem apathetic about the whole thing while the government dithers.
