Fred - what has he improved from though? Did you see him at Shakhtar? Maybe this is just what he was like there and he’s finally settled in England

Matic - he’s playing well but no better than when he first joined us at United where he was excellent for the first 6 months. Let’s not forget that his upturn in form is a recent thing. For most of his time under Ole he has been poor

Shaw - I’ll give you that - though staying fit is a huge help

Martial - I’ll give you that, though he’s playing as a 9 for the first time in years. Maybe that’s just what he’s needed

Rash - he’s been consistently good under all three managers.

McT - I don’t think he’s been improved. He’s just a good player playing as well as he can. He was very good under Jose too.

There’s a difference in improving players and getting the best out of them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Manager I like: “Look how all of these players have developed under Mr Manager!”

Manager I don’t like: “Most of those players haven’t actually improved and those that have are just on a run of form within their existing ceilings.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------

😂 By making a childish comment like that it shows you don’t actually have a riposte for my comment

You still don’t understand the difference between ‘improving’ a player and getting a player to play better within his existing ceiling. Matic has played this well before. Fred has played this well before.

Ole deserves credit for getting them to play well enough to be winning games but ‘improving’ them as players is a stretch
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m not interested in making a ‘riposte’ Robb.

I wouldn’t argue that a player at Matic’s stage in his career would likely be developed - i.e. ceiling improved - in any particularly significant way by any coach.

I’m just enjoying watching you, once again, trying to turn the debate against Ole and into a manager vs manager comparison.

im not even gonna bother arguing.. after the first comment about fred i stopped reading

Same here.

I don’t think it is even arguable that Fred is our most improved player this season.

I think if we carry on with our recent upturn we could surprise a few people next season as well. How we finish this season will tell us more though although my 'crossroads' point is now erring towards the right direction.

I'm not sure either why some LFC fans seem to think it isn't possible. They should know, better than a lot of fans really, how signing the right players for the right positions can reap its rewards. Their story is a true triumph of the the team being more than the sum of their parts (even if they do have excellent players as well).

Liverpool improved 22 points from 17/18 to 18/19 so a big leap can be done with the right players and mindset.

-------------

How often did you watch the Ukrainian league to know how fred played out of interest

The simple fact is that Ole has him playing unbelievably well... Either improving him or getting the very best out of him, he deserves credit

Much more than jose... Who reportedly didn't want him, wouldn't play him... And told him he wasn't good enough and his days were numbered

On Mctominay btw... Be played solidly under jose and as a young player breaking thru and following instructions thats good.... He absolutely never got close to the level of performance under jose that he has under ole

Shaws improvement is as much mental as physical... He's not switching off, he's not as passive

Rashford gave a brilliant interview with Lineker earlier in the season... In it when talking about Ole he said he's a very good coach and he'll go on to be a very good manager (and praised his man management as an example)... I thought it was pretty telling to make the distinction

Dunno why it hurts certain people to give some praise...

How am I doing that? 😂 There’s no debate against Ole regarding managers - it’s clear. If I wanted to do that I’d say that Jose got more out of DDG and Lingard for example than Ole.

I’m just calling a spade a spade. And the real catalyst behind this form upturn is the purchase of Bruno more than any superb individual coaching

I absolutely believe United could improve next season but challenge for the league, with three signings? Not for me. Left back, Centre back, two centre midfielders, right winger, striker, all needed to challenge for the league and even then, they would have to be the right signings.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh but I have - I’ve just tempered it by saying it’s not ‘improving’ players per se - the real praise is more about getting some of them back to the form they once showed. There have been some failures too.

I very much don’t want this to be a Jose debate as I was fine with him leaving - plus people on here say I have an agenda but there’s also an anti-Jose agenda where a lot of the good he’s done is forgotten. That’s fine, I don’t expect anything else on this site. It’s just that Bruno being bought is by far the biggest factor in a form upturn

id say a fit Baily and maguire at CB could be a very good partnership.

Id go as far as to say you could drop Fred into any team in the PL right now and he wouldnt look out of place on form.

Shaw is playing really well at the minute with Williams also looking very capable.

for me we are a striker, a RW ( ala sancho) and another midfielder (2 if pogba goes) from being able to compete.

we have proven time and time again we are capable of beating the so called bigger teams in the league, the problem comes down to being inconsistent, but we have a pretty young squad and that will come with more game time too.

If I would have told you five years ago you'd be current CL holders and are walking the PL with players signed from Hull, Southampton, Newcastle etc you probably wouldn't have believed it.

I'm not saying we will challenge for the league any time soon but to dismiss it would be daft. It's actually making the right signings and getting them to gel that's the difficult part.
