What are you talking about, we didn't go from no hopers. 16/17, finished fourth and got to the Europa League final. 17/18 finished fourth and got to the CL final, 18/19, finished second and won the CL, 19/20 will finish first. It has been a gradual climb.

The point I was making is there was a gradual climb, we didn't go from no hopers to challenging for the league. Therefore VC is talking out of his hole again.

The club did excellent work to slowly build the business and the team up to that point. Which is what United are trying to do now after failing with having the most expensive squad ever assembled at one point a few years ago. I would put my house on it that United will sign at least three players in the summer and you will not challenge for the league next season. It's crazy talk. There are four teams currently better than you in the league as it stands. Several teams close to you, in fact you're only six points ahead of Crystal Palace in eleventh!

I think it's wishful thinking if you believe United will challenge for the league next season. The season after, I believe you'll challenge as I think the approach you're taking with signings is working and Fernandes is an absolute gem.

I'd be very surprised if we won the league next season. Of course I would. That doesn't make it impossible though.

Liverpool went from finishing 25 points behind City (and actually finished below a Jose-led United as well) to pushing them so very close last year with 97 points. If you can keep up this consistency next season then it'll be nigh on impossible for United to finish above you but, if you do what City have done this season, then it could be game on. Although I think City will bounce back next season unless Pep gets the hump and leaves.

I think if we carry on with our recent upturn we could surprise a few people next season as well. How we finish this season will tell us more though although my 'crossroads' point is now erring towards the right direction.

I'm not sure either why some LFC fans seem to think it isn't possible. They should know, better than a lot of fans really, how signing the right players for the right positions can reap its rewards. Their story is a true triumph of the the team being more than the sum of their parts (even if they do have excellent players as well).

Liverpool improved 22 points from 17/18 to 18/19 so a big leap can be done with the right players and mindset.

I absolutely believe United could improve next season but challenge for the league, with three signings? Not for me. Left back, Centre back, two centre midfielders, right winger, striker, all needed to challenge for the league and even then, they would have to be the right signings.

If I would have told you five years ago you'd be current CL holders and are walking the PL with players signed from Hull, Southampton, Newcastle etc you probably wouldn't have believed it.

I'm not saying we will challenge for the league any time soon but to dismiss it would be daft. It's actually making the right signings and getting them to gel that's the difficult part.
