A Simplistic Solution ?? . . . . .

No. As of Friday, no suspected cases had been admitted to our ITU. And they were not “on the p*ss”, just a single drink, non-alcoholic in some cases. It felt like a last supper before it all starts to kick off, a tiny bit of bonding which can only be helpful.

Grow up a bit, eh?

Health Minister Matt Hancock has said the government have basically written a blank cheque to the manufacturers of ventilators. They have promised to buy every one they can make.

Lets hope we actually manufacture these in the UK and have not sold them off to the highest bidder.

It is rate events like this when manufacturing your own stuff suddenly seems like a good idea.

Offices full of "futures traders" in the City aren't going to be much use.

Your one calling them the most intelligent people you know.

Going to a enclosed pub, when you don’t know who’s going to be in, doesn’t seem the brightest thing to do, when these people are going to be vital for us all.

They are in a far more enclosed environment with many more people in a work situation, as are all health care workers. An hour in a pub at a table away from others is a relatively low risk situation.

But thanks for your contribution to the debate.

Those on the front line of care are so much more at risk then anyone else. Just because we have a potential viral epidemic doesn't mean that other illnesses, accidents and injuries go away.

Have you got four months supply of bog roll stashed Spart?

We’re anticipating around 20% sickness absence at any one time. It seems inevitable that most of us will become infected at some point. We are at about 70% staffing levels at the best of times because there aren’t the doctors out there to recruit, so it will be a big hit. All leave will be cancelled and we will have to do the best we can. It’s vital to maintain morale.

Visitors have been stealing hand sanitiser, bringing in their own bottles and filling them up from the dispensers on the walls. We now have none at all in our department. This isn’t clever behaviour by those responsible. Also, we have enough personal protective equipment I.e. masks and gowns, for about one more week. Hopefully we will be able to source some more.

Yes the thin veneer of civilisation we have soon breaks down in to ruthless individualism at the first threat. See the selfishness of people emptying super market shelves. Read a story yesterday about an old lady asking if the person with the trolley in front would they would let her have one off the bags of pasta they had piled in to their trolley. The kind gentleman with the trolley refused.

Scouse, learned from owning a place in Turkey you don't need bog roll, only soap and water. Your bum is cleaner as well. Needs to be in Turkey otherwise it gets very sore. Not the way you are thinking now.

Vidal, the mentality of people who steal the hand gel from a hospital beggars belief.

If only this virus could be manipulated to target such folk!

At least the air will smell sweet when you give us the benefit of your wisdom, Spart.

Spart, us over 70s are in for a rum time if we have stay at home till August. I keep hoping this will go away and not be as bad as everyone says. If Arteta can get well in a few days it can't be that bad, can it?

I wish you'd not mentioned soap, that will be flying off the shelves soon. My daughter has just returned from Tesco and says the place is packed with very little bog roll, I'm so pleased that I stocked up before Brexit!

Vidal can you tell me what has been decided about funerals if there are so many more deaths. I don't suppose friends will be able to go to the crem or church. It is a worry for me.

VC, I would suggest Arteta is an extremely fit bloke, hence the quick recovery. You cant begin to compare that with a 70 year old with a dodgy heart and say 40 years working down a mine.

It's also not much use hoping it will magically "go away".

Johnson desperately wanted to be PM and he's got his wish. I wonder if he regrets his switch from "in" to "out" purely for personal ambition?

All I know is that there is going to be a relaxation of the normal rules around certification of death to avoid delays. Coroners won’t raise any questions unnecessarily. As far as numbers at funerals, I don’t know. I was at a funeral of a friend the week before last and there were hundreds. I expect there will be a limitation on numbers soon, close family only probably.

I think I may have been at the same funeral Vidal, I have never seen such a send off. Very sad day indeed

Really? The one I went to was quite a joyous thing, if that’s possible. Some very nice anecdotes by those who spoke. It was at St Chad’s church in Shrewsbury. The deceased had made arrangements for ten thousand pounds to be put behind the bar at a local pub for the wake. I had to go back to work though so couldn’t take advantage.

Not yet 70 VC. I am free to go out and catch viral diseases to my hearts content

More concerned that having never really had need of any medical interventions except for accidental trauma, when my hour of need comes along it looks like I wont be able to receive the treatment. After living the life of Riley for a while it looks like I'm in for a miserable year. Even if the travel bans are lifted I probably wont be fit enough. That's without dying of new strain of virus. Feeling thoroughly peed off and cheated.

Arh, no then, this was at Aston on Trent, Derby, it was a joyous one too, but so many there, at least a couple of hundred outside the hall as no room. Anecdotes was all punk music and poetry.

I think its most important that we finish this season before starting another one. We can more fixtures around next year or change things to help the season be played out.

Ending a season that is 3 quarters finished would be worse than delaying or changing one that hasnt begun yet.

Whatever we decide should be in line with Europe in my opinion

Come on Scouse. You are presumably lamenting the cool, calm leadership that Corbyn would no doubt have demonstrated.
