Next season can’t start

They’re talking on football focus about one possibility being making Liverpool champions and promoting Leeds/West Brom but no relegation and having a 22 team league for next season

Doesn’t seem too unreasonable

Fack football

Health is more important

If the season ends here, and the title is given to Liverpool then it would be known as the title that was never earned, but given

What a season, with VAR controversies and a title that could be given away, rather than completed and earned

Yeah, cancel the League Cup next season. 22 team EPL. Playoffs for the UCL places, current positions 2-6. Liverpool presented with a unique, hopefully never to be repeated, certificate to show 'This Year Was Finally Your Year'.

Seems the best solution to me.

Geoff Tipps 👌 sounds more than fair

Of course health is more important

My argument is that you can’t get the rule book out for August when it’s been tossed out the window now - this season has to be finished and then we can see what date it is and decide what games can be cancelled ( league cup and home nations need fckng right off )

What about players contracts that expire in June?

That solves the title and relegation issues but what about European qualification? Also the teams in play off contention in the Championship wouldn't be too happy.

So many details to be considered. This is another good point.

The issue isn’t really things like Liverpool - I don’t think anyone would mind just giving them the title right now.

It’s more things like who would play in Europe next season, what do you do with the other football league divisions, things like that.

posted on 14/3/20

It’s also not just about the PL what happened regarding promotion relegation across all the divisions - making teams promoted by default or relegating teams just because the occupy current positions will never be allowed to happen

Which is why they can’t be awarded the title because it just opens a can of worms.

The other thing is the idea the table doesn’t lie has always been a flawed one - it always lies until the last day of the season as that’s the only time everyone has played everyone else both home and away.

Unless they finish the season, someone will kick off about it. I haven’t looked at the PL or football league rules to see if this scenario is mentioned in there at all.

The players need to behave and see out their contracts and if needed play for a few extra weeks or so

It’s the fans that pay all the money and businesses that will lose out not these stars throwing toys out their prams

Clubs should also be instructed to act proper and pay players for an extra few weeks

West Ham, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and other fodder begging for it to be cancelled are a disgrace

Just read this....

FA rules state that in the event of a season ending before time, standings will stay the same if 75% of games has been played. 75% of 38 is 28.5 and we’ve played 29 games.

Wonder what will happen if that’s true?! Rival fans can’t really say anything if we get the league title coz we’re so many points ahead. I can understand if City were 6pts behind or something

posted on 14/3/20

No way on earth Leeds or WBA will be promoted by default - they’re still only 5 or 6 points ahead with 30 odd points to still play for - promoting them by default will never happen in a million years - it would be easier and more ethical to just write off the season nationwide and start again fresh in August

posted on 14/3/20

Forest have taken 4 points off Leeds this season, which shows on paper that we’re probably better than them, but you couldn’t or wouldn’t consider promoting Forest above Leeds - you see there are too many unethical scenarios to deal with if you stay rewarding or punishing teams without them being allowed to challenge

posted on 14/3/20

All we can do really is wait and see. My own opinion is they will finish things 1 way or another but what we are seeing is teams will speak out based on their own agendas. Klopp came out yesterday and never once mentioned a solution, all he spoke of was peoples health and well being. A testament to his character.

By comparison karen brady is out today talking about voiding the league as of course it gets her side out the sheet they have dug themselves into this season. Its pathetic actually. Arsenal also apparently making noises about voiding the season, of course theyd like that, they finished 5th last year so fancy it might get them into the champs league with citys ban. Its actually embarrassing seeing the lengths some will go to to try and ease their troubles.

I hear they will be giving the CL places to the teams who qualified last season.

That can’t be right can it

I don't know about anyone else but i am just glad somebody has finally posted a thread discussing the knock on effects to the season from this virus, it was like the elephant in the room the last few days with no mention anywhere.

We took 6 points off man utd in 08/09 including skelpin them 4-1 in their backyard but still finished 4 points behind them. Football doesnt work like that.

This is also why the Playoffs are a farcical disgrace

You could have a team finish 3rd over the course of a season 25+ points better off than the team that scrape into 6th place

The team finishing 3rd has performed better and more consistently over the course of the season, but yet in the lottery of a 2 game shoot out could miss out on promotion to a team that finished below them and had 25+ points less than them

That is a scandalous, con and makes a mockery of the ‘best’ teams being promoted

Void this season, give Liverpool a 22 point head start next season.
Sorted.

Precisely, which is why you cannot award any team a title or promotion without them fulfilling their full criteria of matches 👍🏼
