Economic Depression

This is likely to be a bigger problem than the virus itself. We could end up seeing a big increase in suicides - I’ve literally never seen the country gripped by fear like this.

Our generation has never experienced anything like this truth be told. We’ve had it very easy. This really will be our blitz period - and during the blitz people had to think positive, accept that life had changed significantly and pull together.

To make you feel better Edbo;

1. Most of us are in the same boat

2. Governments across the globe will pour money into keep the economy afloat - they have to. Doesn’t mean life won’t be hard, but there will be support

3. The economy will recover when this is over. It always does. We are globally on a better financial position than when the financial crisis hit in terms of resilience

4. Life will change. Significantly. But we’ll adapt - just like during the blitz. And we’ll bounce back. There will be some sectors that even grow and benefit

5. Football will be back

Edbo... couldn’t agree more mate

I was at a meeting today in work and whilst they acknowledge how serious it can be in terms of illness or even death the main topic was how it’s going to affect society financially, jobs, homes, cars etc

All very real I’m afraid

Good luck to you πŸ™πŸ‘βœŒοΈπŸ‘Š

I don't know about blaming the media, sure it's been a little OTT but plenty of experts are saying that it's better to be over the top.

The media aren't the ones putting restrictions on work, travel, etc.

But yes, very worried about the depression. My mum just moved back to the UK and has been in locum work in a hospital, will likely lose her job and god knows what she's going to do now. A friend has her dream wedding next month in Bali, but it's looking less and less likely every day and the stress of it is really testing her mental health and we're all worried about her.

We're in Canada and it's just been announced that if we leave, we won't be able to get back in as we're not permanent residents. My partners best friend of 15 years is getting married in June, but if we go we potentially can't come back here, where our lives out.

To other people these might seem like small trivial things, but when they happen to you I think they're pretty big. I hope everyone can continue to be as understanding of each other & support each other. It's going to be tough.

I think right now we have to accept that these trivial things dont really matter

We have to get into lockdown, get a cure and get this banished to the history books

Same here. Really brings it home. As I understand it you won't be able to get back in unless you're at least married to a Canadian citizen.

An expert in medical field told me he expects within 6 months, half a million in U.K. with up to 90% of the population in the country affected which would bring the fatality figure to 1% of those affected, similar rate to the winter flu every year. Though looking at figures across the globe, it seems to be 25 times as fatal as winter flu and mortality rate is much higher than 1%

Yep! I can apply for Express Entry, but I feel like we're close to going into lockdown here, so even then I wouldn't get the PR in time. Plus, I don't really want to spend money when I don't have a support network here & I'm not sure what's going to happen.

The uncertainty is killer.

Not running away - I live in Canada but I'm from the UK, at the moment if I wanted to go home to be with family and friends, it would mean I can't come back to my life here.

This virus will not be the cause of the inevitable depression that's coming down the tracks here. All the virus has done is provided the pin head that pops the asset bubbles and has revealed global insolvency.

Our financial system depends on infinite growth in a world of finite resources, good luck with that one.

Black Starr, I was actually referring to depression in economic terms. I agree with you though, totally inappropriate question.

I know it sounds cold , but the only thing we have to worry about is getting this and dying .

If you get I'll and survive sweet , but if you die you don't know anything about it, so don't worry about it.

Just the way I view things, it relaxes me.

I've recently split with my Mrs of 20+ years, gave all savings to her n the kids.

Spent money on setting up a new business, relying on people being out n about. Have to make a certain amount a month to pay the bills, a sort of pay as I earn model. Was doing really well but uncertain for the near future.

Never been in debt in my life previously. Owe about £2k now and looks unlikely in the short term that I can pay it.

Gotta laugh really or I'd go nuts
