Realistically how many people do we think will die from this ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shut the Fack up seriously
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WTF , fack off , if you don't like the comment don't comment. Honestly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
An absolutely moronic question to ask on a thread where someone is talking about depression. Take your facking morbid curiousity somewhere else you diiickhole
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if the word depression is mentioned, people must not ask questions that may be seen as inappropriate?
Now that is moronic.
And if that is your state of mind, I'd avoid public forums when you are feeling vulnerable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it’s a pretty crass question to ask at any time. You wouldn’t say it in an office
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, that is your opinion.
I must tell you, I definitely would say that in an office. And a pub.
And anywhere else I thought it added to the debate, as EEH clearly did on this occasion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Except you wouldn’t. Like you’d turn round at work and say “hey guys, how many people do you think are gonna die from this thing? Any takers?!”
I don’t think morbid speculation of the unknown adds much to the debate in any case

I’m in a situation like yours. I bought a flat 18 months ago.
I’m really worried about going on SSP and struggling to meet my mortgage. Are banks likely to offer ‘mortgage holidays’ in response to this ?
Surely there’s no way they can demand monthly repayments

Can't you request a payment holiday anyway? Most banks are happy to do it for a month or two if you let them know in advance. Much better than defaulting.
What annoys me is as soon as there's a sign of crisis large industries like the airline industry go cap in hand to the government. Where is their continuity and contingency planning? In the pockets of a few that's where.
The banks are apparently in a comfortable position for once and they have short memories if they don't get in line and offer support.

Perhaps I will contact my bank

So we’ve gone full circle,
You’re back to saying it’s out of order asking how many people will die, because depression was mentioned?
We are in the middle of a crisis that is killing people. Of course people will speculate as to how many will fall.
Its crass to ask someone a question, but it’s ok to call someone “fcking moronic”.
Think we best just leave it at that.

I work for one of the major High Street banks. Whilst I do not work in mortgages (I work in complaints), I would expect my Bank, along with many others, to support customers through this situation.
I know Banks come with a bad reputation, alot of it warranted based on what happened before. But firstly, that issue was mainly investment bankers not the normal workers. I'd also say the Banks have learnt alot since then and are alot more customer focused.
Vulnerable customers are a huge focus. That falls under 3 categories, one of which being life changing events. That can mean things like divorce and yes loss of job. Every circumstance is different but most Banks will aim to support in those situations to help you, which of course means payment holidays could be an option.

That’s what I’m talking about.
Our Government’s response has been slow and confusing at best. They ADVISE not going to pubs bars and restaurants but won’t order them to close (staying on the side of insurance companies) they haven’t closed schools and yet are not providing tests for teachers or front line NHS workers. Obviously this is a fast moving situation so hopefully they will step up a gear and start providing much clearer guidance.
Stay safe everyone.

I don't know about blaming the media, sure it's been a little OTT but plenty of experts are saying that it's better to be over the top.
The media aren't the ones putting restrictions on work, travel, etc.
But yes, very worried about the depression. My mum just moved back to the UK and has been in locum work in a hospital, will likely lose her job and god knows what she's going to do now. A friend has her dream wedding next month in Bali, but it's looking less and less likely every day and the stress of it is really testing her mental health and we're all worried about her.
We're in Canada and it's just been announced that if we leave, we won't be able to get back in as we're not permanent residents. My partners best friend of 15 years is getting married in June, but if we go we potentially can't come back here, where our lives out.
To other people these might seem like small trivial things, but when they happen to you I think they're pretty big. I hope everyone can continue to be as understanding of each other & support each other. It's going to be tough.

Totally,
It’s frightening.
People with mortgages should just have them suspended. Another year put on the end of a 25 year mortgage will make no difference, if it helps everybody out financially right now.
For the banks to demand money, and threaten to repossess if somebody misses a few months payments because of circumstances completely out of control, would be completely out of order.

Is that right?
At the moment I’m going into work as normal but that’s likely to change. I can work from home but I’m not as productive. Work say they may have to consider unpaid leave if we cannot bill clients and consequently work can’t afford salaries.
Perhaps I will contact my bank
Thanks

What happens post lockdown though? The virus is likely just to come back. The lockdown just stems it for that time period.

Realistically how many people do we think will die from this ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shut the Fack up seriously
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WTF , fack off , if you don't like the comment don't comment. Honestly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
An absolutely moronic question to ask on a thread where someone is talking about depression. Take your facking morbid curiousity somewhere else you diiickhole
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if the word depression is mentioned, people must not ask questions that may be seen as inappropriate?
Now that is moronic.
And if that is your state of mind, I'd avoid public forums when you are feeling vulnerable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it’s a pretty crass question to ask at any time. You wouldn’t say it in an office
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, that is your opinion.
I must tell you, I definitely would say that in an office. And a pub.
And anywhere else I thought it added to the debate, as EEH clearly did on this occasion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Except you wouldn’t. Like you’d turn round at work and say “hey guys, how many people do you think are gonna die from this thing? Any takers?!”
I don’t think morbid speculation of the unknown adds much to the debate in any case
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boris and his team disagreed. They're the ones who estimated how many people would be affected and how many would die.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly
On live TV
And you think I wouldn't say it in an office?
What exactly is so wrong with asking?
Anyway, back to my question. Would you say the same suff to EEH's face..
Calling him fckin moronic etc?
I seriously doubt someone with the balls to say that in real life would be crying about a genuine question on the internet.
I'd say you've tied yourself in knots here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I wouldn’t call him moronic - but I probably would have a pop at someone in an office asking how many people they think will die. I just think it’s a crass question and when I raised it on here it was on the understanding that the original post was about people with depression

Everyone's circumstances are different so I couldn't say if they'll let you have a payment holiday, but it's definitely something they offer. For sure I would get in touch with them to talk about what your options are. I'm sure you won't be the only one!

Every circumstance is different but most Banks will aim to support in those situations to help you, which of course means payment holidays could be an option.

macron has frozen bills and mortgage payments for the French
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s what I’m talking about.

People with mortgages should just have them suspended. Another year put on the end of a 25 year mortgage will make no difference, if it helps everybody out financially right now.
For the banks to demand money, and threaten to repossess if somebody misses a few months payments because of circumstances completely out of control, would be completely out of order.

You are probably right. Scandelous though how the banks were bailed out, then they won`t help their cusotmers out.
