Like i said above though, the numbers here are going up rapidly due to us finally testing properly. And in reality that is a good thing in theory as the more cases found the more the virus can be contained.
But yeah, by Easter is nonsensical, what is it, less than three weeks away? Not read deeply into the virus itself but isn't it something like it can lay dormant in the body for up to 2 weeks before coming out and then take like a month to clear possibly? Though presumably it isn't contagious for that long is it?

Time will tell who got it right i guess. Could be that massive numbers have it and the number dying is in reality a tiny tiny part of the greater number. Seems far fetched but who knows. Have to say that this afternoon I have started to ache and generally don't feel great, felt similar about a week ago from nowhere as well.

Beware!
Viruses like this can mutate rapidly, sometimes into something far more deadly.
My guess is we haven't seen anywhere nears the end of what Coronavirus can do and will eventually do.
Vaccine developers may be chasing a moving target.
Get ready for far worse.

Just been reported that Spain has now recorded more coronavirus deaths than China.
I get the impression that it's going to be worse here in blighty.
Numbers were down yesterday, although I think handy are recording them differently, and we definitely don’t know he actual number of infections.
Death toll in Italy rose by 683 to 7503 in one day.
New York is badly hit too.

US has started to use the Defence Protection Act from 1950 (which allows then to claim any device produced in the US) to obtain test kits. So even if something is produced in the USA for a customer/country outside the USA, the US will claim it. Starting to look more and more like a dictatorship. I can believe the modern USA was founded by Europeans. Boy did we turn into caaaants over there.
Italy cases seems to level out around 5K fror the past 3 days. Lets hope they have the worst behind them. Spain is the new Italy. Soon the USA will be the new China.

Italy death toll hit 7500.00 yesterday with Spain around half that, just above China....with 900 dead in the States.
On 7.3.20 Italy had 233 dead, the exact same UK figure last weekend, so let's hope we do not hit 7k by Easter.
Looks like UK and US are getting test kits ready at last, after S Korea and Singapore did so, and saved lives with earlier lockdown.
Congrats to 500k who volunteered for NHS help.
I signed up with Goodsam to at least chat to lonely and vulnerable and possibly to deliver food and meds.
My age and asthma will perhaps, prevent me doing car or deliveries, but if I can help one lonely person at home, it's a help.
Team UK did ok this week.♥️

I laughed. She didn’t.
Proud of her obviously and for everyone else who didn’t even hesitate to sign up. Amazing.

Cinci,
The numbers going up is not just due to finally testing properly, though testing more is essential and a very good thing. There's also been far more exponential spread of the virus due to gross levels of complacency resulting in not testing nearly enough early enough.
The big increase in number of cases through more testing is also capturing more of the cases already in the community. I expect the number of cases to keep going up a lot (provided there is enough test kit reagents). Because the testing rate was soooo low for too long, contact tracing, which is essential for limiting the spread, is now going to be futile in many parts of the country.
I'm glad you agree about Trump's "beautiful Easter timeline". Some of the terminology in your summary of the virus is off, but you've got the gist of it right. The significance of these characteristics is that there is currently potentially hundreds of thousands of Americans that have the virus without showing symptoms that could be passing it on to even more hundreds of thousands.
It may take another week or two to even get a complete picture of the number of infections that have been spread over the past fortnight when folks all around the country were often not taking it seriously.
The worst is yet to come for the US.
Sorry if I come across as a harbinger of doom. I'm just genuinely worried. The worst case scenario is an unmitigated disaster that would result in significantly more long lasting damage to the economy and society than social distancing and restrictions currently in place.
You're an intelligent guy (from my limited interactions with you in the past) so I'm not worried for you rationalising all this and being able to parse the intent and message from Trump's press conferences. My concern is that many others aren't as switched on as you are, that only hear the Trump or Fox line that everyone else is fake news and he's the only one telling the truth. He's given so much bad advice and guidance, plus he's accentuated the mistrust of the media for years, much of which in this instance, isn't fake news and are trying to share information about the virus.
This means that there are people all across America who simply won't believe that the virus is a problem and that things will be getting back to normal in 18 days time (Easter).
The mixed messaging has led to avoidable virus transmission already, and Trump's latest Easter timeline may lead to undoing all the good work done recently to slow down the virus.
I'm just some random dude on the interweb, but this guy is the director of a research group at John's Hopkins University.

It's quite a bit longer than the usual for Twitter but worth it. You may notice that even though it's a couple of days old, his numbers are now way below current levels. 40,000 cases and 100 deaths on the 24th, now 63,000 and 900 TWO DAYS LATER!
I hope I'm very wrong about incidence trajectories, but if not, then the burden on the US health system will cause deaths to many sick folk and not just from the virus.
Stay safe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah in the last few weeks I heard/read pretty often from people sayings it's a flu or only talking in weeks not months and with Trump saying Easter those folks are now naturally not going to take it as seriously.
I don't understand how Trump gets to say so many things wrong, surely he has a mountain of advisors who are supposed to make sure that doesn't happen but I guess we have watched his Twitter disasters for years now to know he clearly does what he likes and overrides advisors. Not sure I have ever seen anything like it before really.
Social distancing needs to be in place for several months given the way the virus appears to be developing in the US. New York was always going to get hit hard, a rare US city with mass public transport and what 30-40 million people within an hour or two. New Orleans erupting now. I can see a scenario where when New York starts to get a grip it will go back to normal whilst other cities are still in a mess and then the whole cycle starts again. The whole country needs to be in lockdown for the foreseeable to end this.
