These pandemics come along once a century.
Unfortunately, extensive and cheap global travel massively facilitates their spread.
We've already agreed that SARS was less serious than COVID. That wasn't necessarily understood in the initial phase and it proved easier to manage.
It's beyond doubt that both originated in China. It's not too far fetched to suggest that we will see something beyond COVID emanate from there within the next twenty years.
Sorry but we can't take that chance.
The rest of the world needs to cut China off completely. They are big enough to survive on their own. No travel in or out is what we needed.
Scream nonsense and racism if you wish but by the end of this, millions will agree.
This might be one of the most embarrassing threads I have ever read
Lining up to take shots at the US which has basically fecked up the same as just about everywhere else.
Fack me, the brilliant UK government even set up a nice little 'last night drinking session before we have to take it seriously guys' order ffs
Millions may agree, but a world that relies heavily on Chinese production will not cut them off.

You can let Tv's and laptops out without letting people out. Latin America has plenty of resource to take up the slack in future.
China aren’t going to stop their people leaving the country.

You're clearly an expert on that so I won't argue.
We don't need to let them in. Pretty straightforward.
You don’t need to be an expert. Your suggestion is a complete fantasy.

Robb,
Are you coming back to Oz, still? Vaguely recall you said April. Better hurry up if so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Decided to wait a bit as there’s no upside to moving across the world during a pandemic - I’d be staying with relatives and wouldn’t necessarily be guaranteed any work anytime soon - the move is already stressful enough without wanting to feel a burden and stranded from the main people in my life who live in Europe!
I’ll ‘see this out’ and when it’s calmed down make the move. How is it over there? From chatting to my rellies over there it still seems to be in that minor denial point much like England was a couple of weeks back.
New Magnum.
Dave is an angry msn who shouts at those with a differing opinion from him, and called the racism card when I dared mention China in regard to the virus, bird flu, Sars and Chinese govt treatment of people after covering covid up.

But you are talking about people going back to their daily lives when using those as examples, they just aren’t comparable and didn’t impact the globe in the way this is. That’s why it was flawed reasoning.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seriously? You want to batter this to death?
Whether you agree with me using those examples or not is entirely irrelevant. I’ve used them as simple examples of so called planet threatening diseases that were eventually managed; had significant financial impact and people now very rarely talk about.
Nothing more was claimed and to be honest my reasoning in using them is good enough for me as part of a wider debate.
You can label them as flawed over and over again if you want to try and prove a point. It doesn’t make you in any way right.
Quite tiresome to be honest and like a dog with a bone it’s welcome to. Have it and enjoy
Is this thread always so pedantic with petty point scoring?
